Mickey’s Soundsational Parade “Soft-Showing” Video

Mickey’s Soundsational Parade had a performance yesterday labeled as a rehearsal or “Soft-Showing” as today is the official first showing of the parade. We were on scene and got full video of the parade from the Small World Mall.

Stay tuned to Disneyland News Today as we continue to cover Soundsational and everything opening next week with Soundsational Summer.

Spotlight On: Custom Artist Claudia

We’ve known Claudia for several months now. She’s a highly energetic vinylmation trader who frequently leaves comments on our site. We also always see her and her husband in line for the latest vinylmation on Friday mornings (like today!) Little did we know, she is also a great custom artist. Check out some of these great Retro Minnie and Mickey pieces she’s done.

This are very cool for a new artist. I really appreciate the time spent on removing the brushstrokes. Also check out the Swarovski crystals she used as the dots on Minnie’s dress. I also like Mickey’s google eyes. I found this picture of an old Minnie and Mickey, check out how well Claudia replicated them!
And check out Minnie’s hat. It’s made of wood and is removable! Just like the hat accessories from Disney’s vinylmations.
A week after we saw these at the trade show, she announced that she was finished her 9″ Retro Minnie. Check this out. Claudia said she spent 3 weeks going over it with the coating to make it look like this. It too has a removable hat!
But there’s more. Not only is the hat removable, but the is more mixed media. Her dress’s polka dots are added, and check out her eyelashes…
Those are three dimensional as well! Claudia says they were a pain to get just right. Claudia also has a youtube channel where she films a lot of her vinylmation, check out the following video she made about this piece.

Thanks Claudia for sharing these with us, and to all our readers, make sure you stop by and say hi to her when you have a chance!

Full On-Ride Video of “The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure”

Yesterday, “The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure” soft opened at Disney California Adventure for the first time to guests. We were on the scene and got video of both the queue, and the full ride. If you don’t want this attraction spoiled for you, I wouldn’t watch. However, if you want a look at what the fine people at Walt Disney Imagineering are capable of these days, this video is certainly worth a view. Enjoy:

First Look at the Full “Under The Sea: Journey of the Little Mermaid” Ride

We have been previewing Fantasyland’s next “dark ride” an awful lot for it still being over a year away from opening, but that’s because Disney California Adventure has been nearing the opening of their version of “Under the Sea”, titled “The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure”. Now, don’t let the name confuse you, this is the same attraction in a different location and with a different facade. Otherwise, the on-ride portion is identical to what is being constructed right now at the Magic Kingdom, scheduled to open in late 2012. The first soft openings for the California attraction were held yesterday and Disneyland News Today‘s Conner Purzycki was on the scene and has a video of the entire ride to share with us. If you don’t want this attraction spoiled for you, I wouldn’t watch. However, if you want a look at what the fine people at Walt Disney Imagineering are capable of these days, this video is certainly worth a view. Enjoy:

With the level of detail, the amount of high-tech audio-animatronics figures, and the classic story of The Little Mermaid, we fully expect this to become one of the most classic Disney attractions ever built. Even though we have now seen the ride in action, stay tuned to WDW News Today as we continue to cover the Fantasyland Expansion and our version of this ride (which I’m sure we all just can’t wait for after seeing that) coming next year!

Line at D-Street Orlando

Update: 3 PM According to reader Shaun, everyone in line at the Florida D-Street got one, but then they sold out almost immediately afterwards. So congrats to the line! (Boy was it hot out there!)

By many counts, it is possible not everyone in line will get a Rescue Ranger Vinylmation that was released today.

We got burned!

Looks like the 9″ Holiday 2 Sunburned Guy seems to be online. $48.95. LE of 500. Get it while it lasts.

Also available today were the Park 6 figures. They can be purchased individually in a blind box of for a case. $12.95 and $310.80 respectively. (Thanks to everyone who mentioned this to us!)

I left my Vinylmation in… San Fransisco

Announced today were two exclusive vinylmation for San Fransisco. Both will be released on June 26th (the same day as the 3″ Hey Taxi in NYC). Both will also be exclusives to the Stockton Street Disney Store.
First up, another Tinned 3″. Woohoo! This time it’s a cable car. It looks awesome. I must have it! This figure is designed by Dan Beltran (most recently from the Cutesters Like You set).

The other one is a beautiful 9″ figure by Gerald Mendez. It will show the Golden Gate Bridge at night in the front, and then on the back is the bridge during the day! It is glorious. There will only be 1540 of these. Get them while you can. Only at the Stockton Street Disney Store in San Francisco.

Just a Short Cab Ride….

Today, while as we discovered the London exclusives, Disney announced several new “location” themed exclusives. The first is a 3″ version of “Hey Taxi!”

It will be released exclusively at the Times Square Disney Store in NYC on June 26th. The design is by Jim Valeri, who also designed the original 9″ figure. And the second best part- It comes in a tin! Oh tin, I’ve missed you so, never leave us again!

“I love it! Exactly what I had hoped for! (and still hope for with the London Double Decker Bus) I love the 9″, but prefer to collect the 3″s.” – M.C.

What do you think?

Let the Trades Begin!

Disney officially announced today that trading will start in Disney Stores on May 31st! They said that the experience will be “based on the experience in the parks”. So I guess that means there might be Clear boxes AND Mystery boxes?? There will be more info to come. Although I also expect several stores to start trading early based on previous experience.

When you store starts trading, let us know. Take a pic and we’ll post it!
