Annual Passholder Vinylmation Now Worldwide

by Nickolas Lam

Hello DestinationVinylmation fans, my name is Nickolas Lam and I am a new contributor to this website. I am excited to be joining this awesome website, and I will bring you exciting new articles about Vinylmation. Please enjoy my articles and I hope it helps the community.

Ni hao! If you live near Hong Kong Disneyland and Disneyland Resort Paris, there is a new Vinylmation for you guys. The Annual Passholder Vinylmation for HKDL has a yellow Mickey balloon in the head, like the Disneyland Resort Vinylmation. It has the clear outline globe, and the blue and green balloons on the bottom. It has a small edition size of only 300.

The Disneyland Paris AP’s edition size has not been released, however, the size will probably be 300 or 3000 like the others. It has a blue Mickey balloon for the head. The bottom balloons are blue and green, reminiscent of the Disney World Passholder Vinylmation. It was released on Saturday in the Disney Village in Paris

Robots 3 Sticker Shock

Robots 3 was released today at Disney Stores and Online and it wouldn’t be a Disney Vinylmation release without some surprises now would it?

The 9″ Steambot Willie was featured on the Vinylmation Blog a week ago with a $69.95 price tag, already a bit high for a solo nine inch, but not unprecedented. Well, when it was released today, it actually had a 79.95 price tag attached to it.

I had hoped we were past these ridiculously high prices on solo nine inch figures. They tried it a few times to heavy backlash and seemingly low sales and have seemed to drop back down to manageable prices. But now they are giving $80 a try… any takers? Or will this be seen at next year’s Vinylmation madness sale? The LE is 1000 and here is a look at the back in case you have not seen.

The 3″ blind boxes were also released today. While we have seen the set by now, chaser and all, we had not seen the price tag. Disney Store decided to release this series at a $12.95 price point.

Not shocking for Vinylmation in general, as we are used to that price at the parks. However, the Disney Store blind box products are normally $9.95. So for a set that I was only on the fence about, but leaning toward buying at $10 a pop, this is too much and I now will spend my money elsewhere.

One last thing… there is an interesting note in the ad campaign banner I received in the email from the Disney Store today. The phrase “works with light-up base” appears. It is very interesting to see Disney promoting the base in general and for use with other figures. Whether they actually kept the base in mind while designing this series or just thought about it afterword, would be an interesting question.

Have a Very Fashionable Christmas

Imagine a Christmas morning where you wake up and stumble down the hall way. Still blurry eyed, you look at the table next to the tree and notice only crumbs left on the plate where your stylized Disney character cookies had once laid. Santa must have been here! You then make it to the tree where designer Ear Hats, Vinylmation and hooded towels sit waiting to be unwrapped!

Yesterday on Madison Avenue, the eye’s of the fashion world looked upon Barney’s department store. At 9pm the switch was flipped and Electric Holiday gleamed brightly in the large window display. A wonderfully animated 5 minute video then began to play. And just like that, the Disney/Barneys joint Christmas venture was underway.

We talk about this event on this website because of the pair of Vinylmation that are now available for purchase. They are both online only and are described as limited edition, yet no edition size is given. We have already seen what they look like, however the price tag has now been revealed. Each 9″ designer Vinylmation will set you back $250… making them the most expensive (retail price) single Vinylmation so far.

Diane Von Furstenberg designed Vinylmation Figure
$250

Paul Smith Vinylmation Figure
$250

With the vinyl news out of the way, let’s talk about this video! Not at all what I expected, the entertainment value exceeded expectations! I don’t even have a clue who 90% of the people in the video are, but the style of animation coupled with the Disney cameos and topped off with a beautiful score by Michael Giacchino make this a mini masterpiece. The cameos from across Disney, fashion and pop culture are incredible. Disney and or fashion fans MUST go here to watch the video! I will not spoil it all for you, but here is a peak at some of the cameos and screen shots…

In New York last night, Sarah Jessica Parker was on hand to help kick off the festivities. She joined Minnie Mouse on stage to help unveil the new collection.

Of course, there are other items for sale besides the Vinylmation. Take a look. I can’t believe the price tag on the cookies! The good news is that from November 14th – January 3rd, 25% of proceeds from the Electric Holiday collection will be donated to American Red Cross disaster relief.

Check out the entire collection at the Barneys website.

2012 Festival of the Masters Customs

The Festival of the Masters will be held this weekend, November 9-11, at Downtown Disney in Orlando. There will be various one-of-a-kind Vinylmation available for purchase.

The sculpted caterpillar is a Miss Mindy creation. Cinderella was painted by Katie Kelly. John Henselmeier designed the Steamboat Pete complete with John’s now signature “big teeth smile.” (see Mickey’s Circus Monkey) The steampunk inspired custom in a cage came from the mind of Darren Willson. And, as we have already previewed, Noah will chime in with a series of Crash Test Dummy customs.

Also considered part of the festival events is the release of the beautiful Classic Collection series. Artist Eric Caszatt will hold a signed at D-Street from 11a-1p on Friday, November 8.

Give the Gift of Santa Mickey

Normally it is Santa bringing you a gift, but what if your gift could be Santa? The 2012 Santa Mickey 3″ figure is now a reward for Disney Movie Reward members. Thanks to Nick L. for the tip on this one.

He will set you back 850 points and there is a limit of one redemption per member. Find out more at DisneyMovieRewards.com.

Park Starz Pinz 11/8

On November 8th, Disney will release a Mystery Collection of Vinylmation Park Starz pins. The set will contain 17 total pins. Each box contains 1 of 11 “Revealed” pins and 1 of 6 “Mystery” pins and will have a retail price of $32.95. Meaning at $16.48 a pin, they are just about as expensive as the actual figures that came in a blind tin for $18.95!

The 6 mystery pins should be: Small World Boy & Goat, and then the variants for the Bride, Yeti, Abe, Squid and Figment. Check out OnceUponAPin.com for more on these and other Disney Pins.

D-Street Orlando Update 10/17/12

Just a few quick notes about some items at D-Street Orlando. They still have a handful of the LE 2500 Popcorns Clown Dumbo Variants around the store.

They also have a bunch of the LE 2000 Fantasia #1 Combos behind the counter.

And then this beautiful new 9″ Custom Fortune Teller Mickey has shown up in the display case.

It comes in a real wooden box and lights up when plugged in. The manager on duty was able to tell me it has a $2,000 price tag and the artist is Mark Seppala. Mark made at least one custom around the opening of D-Street and is also the artist behind the Park 6 Wet Paint Donald.
