More Pixar Combos Coming (After) Up?

On July 12, a two figure 3″ combo set featuring Carl and Ellie from Up will release at Comic Con and Online. It was great to see them in person with the packaging at the WDW Trade Night. But it wasn’t just the phenomenal designs on the figures that caught my eye. The box, which features pictures of Pixar characters from all the movies, says “Vinylmation Pixar Disney #1”. Meaning… we are to see more Pixar combos coming down the line!

I have been craving this. Especially after it became clear the Animation series is staying away from Pixar. So ever since the Lightning and Mater 2 pack, I have been saying this is the perfect way to present the Pixar universe characters to us. I am super excited! I hope some Bug’s Life vinyls are just over the horizon. Maybe a Marlin and Dory combo? Remy and Linguini? What combos would you like to see in this collection?

Meet Manny, Mandy, and Mona the Monorails

From Erin Glover on the Disney Parks Blog:

New Faces Come to the Disneyland Monorail Featuring Mandy from 'Cars'

If you’ve been to the Disneyland Resort in the past couple of days, you may have noticed a few new faces along the Disneyland Monorail line. Here to welcome their “Cars” friends to Cars Land at Disney California Adventure park, Mandy and Mona Monorails began making trips around the resort yesterday – and they will soon be joined by a third friend, Manny Monorail. You can tell each by their colors: Mandy Monorail is blue, Mona Monorail is orange and Manny Monorail will be red.

Each Monorail has its own personality, which Disneyland Resort guests will certainly hear when riding. Manny, Mandy and Mona Monorails are taking charge of the overhead announcements themselves – providing a new experience along the “Highway in the Sky.”

Come take a ride on the Disneyland Monorail and visit our three newest Disneyland Resort friends – Manny, Mandy and Mona Monorails!

Are You “Brave” Enough For World of Color?

From Shawn Slater on the Disney Parks Blog:

This time next month, all the new entertainment and attractions at Disney California Adventure park will be open for you to enjoy. I, for one, can’t wait to see everything. June 15 will be a full day of memorable experiences, capped off with the stunning “World of Color” nighttime spectacular!

Since “World of Color” made its debut back in 2010, the show has featured occasional updates and surprises, delighting audiences with forays into new worlds ranging from “TRON: Legacy” to “Prep & Landing.” Just in time for one of the biggest summers in Disney California Adventure park history, “World of Color” is set to introduce another new sequence, inspired by the Disney•Pixar film “Brave.”

Merida from Disney•Pixar's 'Brave
Set to “Brave” composer Patrick Doyle’s stirring Scottish score, the sequence introduces us to the film’s adventurous heroine Merida, as she races across the Scottish Highlands, bow and arrow in hand, on her faithful horse Angus, and follows the mysterious will o’ the wisps on an epic journey to change her fate.

“Brave” opens in theaters June 22, but you’ll be able to catch the “Brave”-inspired sequence in “World of Color” starting June 15.

Tim takes us through the park for a look at the new show “Mad T Party” as its final touches and stage appear ready for the opening. Updates of progress on Cars Land, as well as colorful shots of Mickey’s Soundsational Parade.

It’ll be impressive to see it at night all lit up.

Daytime Fountain Show Coming To Paradise Bay????

Adding to the massive list of new attractions and offerings coming to the Disneyland Resort on June 15th, something interesting appeared on the Disneyland calender. A new show Called Melody Time is taking place in Paradise Bay every hour 5 times a day from 11:00 to 4:00. PhineasTheHitchhikingGhost grabbed a pic before Disney pulled it down.

It’s only a five minute show so that rules out an extensive stage show on the Palisades Stage. We are assuming it is a new daytime fountain show utilizing the World of Color fountains and may be taking tunes from the 1948 animated feature Melody Time.

While the show may just be using the name, we are not sure if the show will utilize music from Melody Time. Daytime fountains have been tried before with Disney Channel Rocks! The show has failed but I always thought the daytime fountains was a neat feature.

Stay tuned to DLNT as more on this story becomes available.

Park 9 LE Combo Set Prepares For Takeoff

I was among the disapointed when we did not get a non-nine inch LE set in Park 8. So I was excited to see that we will get at least 1 such combo in Park 9. It is a two 3″ figure LE 1750 combo set representing the Disneyland Space Man and Women that walked around Tomorrowland meeting with guests. Space was a fascination in the US during the 1950’s and 60’s and these costumed characters entertained guests until about 1967.

As they always do, Davelandweb.com has a great article on these retro costumes with plenty of pictures. Here is a peek at the back of the box showing the art for these figures.

Mountain Climbers Return To The Matterhorn!

From Shawn Slater on the Disney Parks Blog:

Matterhorn Bobsleds has always been my favorite attraction at Disneyland park. Nothing beats the giddy thrill of hurtling through caverns of ice, encountering the Abominable Snowman and splashing down in an Alpine stream.

Mountaineers Scale the Matterhorn at Disneyland Park
One of my earliest memories in the park is of walking down Matterhorn Way and stopping in my tracks when I realized there were people actually climbing the famous Swiss peak. Having real mountain climbers on the mountain is a tradition started by Walt Disney in 1959 when the attraction opened. Over the years, climbers going by the names Hans, Otto and Fritz took on the challenge of reaching the summit.

I’m excited to tell you that this summer, brave mountaineers will once again scale the icy slopes of the mighty Matterhorn. Look for them starting June 15 when the Matterhorn Bobsleds attraction reopens. Seeing them is one of those only-in-Disneyland experiences that will make you yodel with joy!

More Popcorns Shapes Appear

At the WDW Trade Event on Friday, Disney had an LE Dumbo Popcorns on display.

Dumbo is and edition size of 2500 and will be released before the official launch of the Popcorns product line.

Take a look at the side view. You can see the foot and a good look at the hat. I am absolutely enjoying these much more than I originally thought! I like that they all will have a unique shape instead of just one new mold. A close look around the box revealed to us a few future figures as well.

Donald Duck! I just really love the fun look of these. So much better than I imagined the others, besides the known Mickey, to look like.

There also seems to be a Pluto. Where the majority of the figure is the head with a collar at the base.

And a Chip ‘n Dale seem to be on the way as well. Of course, we already saw the Pie Eyed Black and White Mickey previewed online, but it was on display at the trade night as well.

This guy will release on July 15th at Comic Con as an online product. LE 5000, $24.95. I’m not saying I’ll grab them all, but I am very excited about this new twist on Vinylmation. They are all unique shapes while holding a similar feel. They are both fun and a piece of art at the same time. It’s always interesting to see an artist’s cartoonish interpretation on the Disney characters. We get this in so many other pieces of Disney merchandise, why not in vinyl collectible form? This product line is like Park Starz for Disney cartoon and movie characters. It allows the artists to express themselves outside of the Mickey mold and tell a story with shape and not just paint.
