Everyone Likes a Red Head

Meet the two newest red heads of Vinylmation. First, Julie Young. She has been a long time merchandiser with Disney Pins and according to the Disney Parks Blog is coming over to Vinylmation. She also was in one of Steven Miller’s interviews when he joined the team back 9 years ago. Congrats to Julie!

Also, Julie seems to be holding what we can only assume is a Park Starz version of the Red Head from Pirates of the Caribbean. Could this be another Park Starz 2 figure? (She doesn’t say anything about the figure in her interview.) How do you think it compares to the famous animatronic?

Thanks to Michael for taking a closer look. He spotted what looks like it maybe be a Park Starz Orange Bird in the background. What do you think?
Well Steven Miller already answered this question, with a big fat YES!

We also noticed the packaging for Park Starz 2…

More to Sing About

Along with the Beauty and the Beast set, the interview with Julie Young also provided a look at a Silly Symphony series. She says it will be coming out in early Fall. She also says “it features long lost characters rarely seen on merchandise.”

We’re already excited. What do you think?

A Tale as Old as Time…

In an article today, Steven Miller talked about the Julie Young being part of the Vinylmation team. In the interview she reveals that a “Beauty and the Beast Series” is coming in June. Based on the picture it looks like it will be a normal blind box series. Hopefully of 12! So far we have Belle, Beast, Gaston, Cogsworth, and Lumiere.

Are you ready for this!???

DLR “Trading in the Park” Event: March 2nd

Over at Disneyland this past weekend, traders organized an unofficial fan meet up for Vinylmation lovers called “Trading in the Park.” The event is held in the picnic area at DLR from 11am-1pm on the 1st Saturday and 3rd Sunday of each month. Collectors of Vinylmation, Pins, Pop and more are welcome. OCVinylDon of VinylmationTraders.com sent us some photos and a note:

“It was about 80 degrees and sunny at DLR today. The event started at 10 and traders started to stroll in by about 1-130. We peaked at about 9 trade tables, about 25/30 traders, and over 1000 vinyls. Was good to see old traders, and meet new ones and put a face behind the names. The next event is Sunday March 17th (Saint Patricks Day) with DLR Paradise Pier trade event on Friday March 15th from 5-8 . See you at the next trade event.”

Custom VinylMadness Begins!

It’s finally here! The first round of Custom VinylMadness starts tomorrow, March 2nd. This month long voting process will determine Vinylmation fandom’s favorite Custom Vinylmation.

Using a familiar looking bracket system, each vinyl submitted has been randomly drawn out of a hat to determine it’s location in the bracket. Customs will be paired off and fans will choose their most favorite of the two. The custom with the most votes then moves on to the next round. There are a total of 56 entries this year, so customs in the 1 through 8 spots will have a bye in the first round.

Every round will start with a post announcing that round’s pairs. Fans will have two days to vote for their favorites at facebook.com/destinationvinylmation. On the third day we will announce the winners who will be moving on and also post the next round.

There are four regions to the bracket labeled “Fantasyland”, “Tomorrowland”, “Adventureland” and “Frontierland”. These names are just to help organize the figures and mean nothing about the location of the artist.

Some quick notes. All figures will be shown with the name their artist gave them along with a number. The artist’s names will not be revealed until the end of the contest. Artists, please feel free to share and post to your Facebook groups asking people to vote for your figures. Please keep these posts positive; as in “Go vote for my figure” as opposed to negative “Don’t vote for this figure, it’s ugly”. DV reserves the right to disqualify any artist’s custom entry. If that artist is found to be making negative statements against another artist or custom during this contest. Let’s keep this a celebration of the art form!

Congrats to every artist, any of these entries is worthy of the top spot, but only one can win it! That winner will also get a banner on the DV home page for 3 months that can link to the artist’s web page, Facebook page, or store!

Jr. 8 Goofy’s Candy Co. Explained

Jr. 8 Goofy’s Candy Co. Explained

Release Date: April 12 (Facebook Store), April 19 (D-Streets)
$9.95
Maria Clapsis and Thomas Scott
Designs are based on Disney’s consumable line.

Update 04/18/13 The Disney Merchandise Blog posted the two chasers from the Goofy’s Candy Co. Jr. 8 series.

One is the official Goofy’s Candy Co. logo in the head with Goofy’s signature laugh “Gawrsh!” written all over the body. The other chaser is Goofy, looking goofy and apparently sweating.

Today we got a look at the rest of the non chasers from this line. Here are the Disney turnarounds for them.

I think they are doing a good job with the clear parts of this set. I know there are a lot of similar ones, but I think they work well for the set (unless they could have found a way to actually stick a stick inside one).

I love how if you are to search for “Gummy Bears Vinylmation” in the future, this is what you’ll get. MC thinks this is probably the best one from this set.

Interesting note on this one. When we saw it at Mickey’s Circus it has green on some of the stars. I wonder if that will be a variant, or just an early design?

Here are the pictures from Mickey’s Circus back in September of 2012.

Thumper Hops Into Animation 3: Coming April 12th

The Disney Vinylmation Events page was updated to include an April 12th release date for Animation 3. While we do know the identity of half of the 12 figure mystery set and a few of the LE combos, the biggest reveal from this update was the combo topper. No photos as of yet, but it was revealed to be none other than Thumper from Bambi!

I can not wait to see what this figure looks like. Similar to the Classic Collection’s Oswald, it will be a let down if Thumper does not have the bunny ears instead of the Mickey ears. I think it also needs the cotton tail that we saw on the 2012 Easter Bunny figure.

By the way, Thumper is designed by Casey Jones… who also designed the Easter Bunny figure above. So I think it is a safe bet we will see the Bambi bunny on a similar platform! Thumper joins his buddy Flower from the 1942 Disney animated classic who appeared in Animation Series 2 last year.

You can find the series as we know it on our explained page here. What figure are you most excited about?
