Beauty and the Beast Variants and Chaser

Isn’t it nice when everyone can agree AND be right at the same time. Well today Disney make that magic happen by announcing the variants and chaser to the upcoming Beauty and the Beast series.

First, the Variants. Like everyone expected, we have the Red and Yellow version of the Triplets from Belle’s hometown. Perfect.

Second the chaser, and while they didn’t go outside the box for this one, it’s the one most people expected. Adam. The beast in human form.

Are you looking forward to this set? Will you pick up the whole set including the variants? Were there any other ideas you had for the chaser that you wish you could have seen instead? Let us know!

Spotlight On: Roman’s Jabba Custom

In this week leading up to Star Wars Weekends at DHS, artist Roman Rodriquez would like to share a new Star Wars inspired custom he has created!

“I want to take this opportunity to introduce my custom Jabba The Hunt 9” Claymation.  I was approached by Susan Ermish-Gunther to create a realistic and detailed 9” Vinylmation Jabba.  I wanted to give her a very realistic Jabba and I love the way it came out.  One of my favorite features of this custom is the way the clay captures the wrinkles and bumps in his body.  In addition,  I added glass eyes that provide a life like look. These eyes are so real that it seems like he is looking at you and following your every move.  I am available for commission work and I can be contacted at my page www.facebook.com/romanrodriguezart.”

He was totally into Disney before you…

Looks like Disney is going hipster. Here’s a pic of Hipster Mickey that will be part of a Hipster Cocktail Party on July 18th at Wonderground Gallery in Disneyland. Find out more here.

What do you think of this look?

Will it come to Vinylmation too?

The Monorails: Live at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort

Long before they made an appearance as our favorite 3″ Disney collectibles, The Monorails were a band that toured around the Walt Disney World Resort performing at the resorts on their grand openings. We recently dug up some of The Monorails old concert posters, CDs, Albums and publicity photos. On May 17, 2004, Disney opened the Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa. Situated on the former site of the Disney Institute, it is the largest Disney Vacation Club resort. The resort was inspired by the city of Saratoga Springs, New York. The Monorails, of course, were there to commemorate the event.

Skeleton Dance?

Today in 1929, Disney’s first Silly Symphony was completed. It was titled “Skeleton Dance”. We thought this would be a good time to remind everyone that the Silly Symphony series will be coming to stores this year and we think the Skeleton Dance is high on the list of possible figure designs. I personally think it would be cool if they could reproduce the character above on a vinyl, but that seems unlikely.

Previously they released this Holiday 1 LE figure based on the short, but I think it’s been long enough that we could get another one. What do you think?

(For more info on our other ideas for the series check out our article “A Closer Look at Silly Symphony

Collector’s Corner: Crazy4Vinyls

Today we are featuring the collection of a custom artist we know. Here is Crazy4Vinyls’s collection.

How long have you been collecting?
I bought my first blind boxes during a trip to WDW when Park 2 was released.  I didn’t buy another one until another trip to WDW in January of 2011, when I came home with 40 more.  So I would say I have been collecting since January 2011.

How many Vinylmation do you have?
I think I am a little over 550 at this point.

Who is your favorite Disney Artist?
I would say my favorite artist is Randy Noble.   He is probably most famous for the Park 1 balloon chaser but he also designed my favorite vinylmation.

Favorite Disney Vinylmation you own?
I think that is pretty easy to tell.  It’s the Park 2 little green man from toy story.  This was my first vinylmation I ever bought.

Favorite custom you own?
My favorite custom is the LGM candy bowl created by Celeste.  When she was showing off her candy bowl series, I knew I had to have one.  So I contacted her and asked if she could create a claw coming out of the head.  It looks wonderful!

The piece you don’t have yet, but consider your holy grail?
That’s a hard one because I have many pieces in my collection that would probably top the list of grails.  The one that I am looking to add to my collection is the last tin that I need which would be the Cinderella Tin.

Upcoming set you’re most looking forward too?
I’m an old mold collector.  I don’t get too excited for many of the new sets that are coming out.  I only have 2 new mold sets in my collection-Furry Friends and Robots 3.   So how about this, I am looking forward to trying to get all of the old mold variants next to add to my collection.

Spotlight On: Mike Vetrone’s Poison Apple Custom

Mike Vetrone sent us a few photos of and a few words on his most recent creation:

“I wanted to share with you one of my most recent works.  It is a 9 in Bad Apple from Snow White.  I wanted to really emphasize the “poison” on the apple so I sculpted it!

This was a total challenge for me, but it was a great learning experience and I love the outcome.  On the back it featured the old hag’s hand holding the apple and the “body” of the Vinylmation is her sleeve.  On the front of the body it featured Snow White and the Prince which acts as foreshadowing.  Enjoy!”
