According to an internal document floating around, Rivers of Light at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will make its very first performance on April 6th.

RiversOfLight-Concept-Large

The April 6th showing will be for Animal Kingdom cast only. All other Walt Disney World cast members will have access to previews of the show on April 8th, 9th, 12th, and 13th.

There is some sort of “premium” annual pass holder and Disney Vacation Club member preview event being held on April 15th which will hold 4,000 guests, but we expect this to have an added fee (should be announced soon). Two normal AP and DVC preview nights are scheduled right after that for April 16th and 17th.

A press event premiere of the show will be held on April 19th and the show will of course open on April 22nd to all guests.

According to the document, showtimes once the show debuts will be at 8:30PM and 9:45PM nightly.

Disney Releases New Concept Art and Details for Tiffins & Nomad Lounge at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

The newest Walt Disney World table-service restaurant is part of the biggest expansion in the history of Disney’s Animal Kingdom – Tiffins, in the park’s Discovery Island area, opens this summer with dishes inspired by the world travels of the park’s creators.

AKT372096

“Tiffin” is the Indian word for a lunchbox used by travelers (also a mid-day meal), and the 252-seat restaurant in the park’s Discovery Island area will open daily for lunch and dinner with menus that takes diners to Europe, Africa, Asia and the Americas.

A detailed map within the restaurant’s entryway sets the stage for an immersive dining experience celebrating world travel, with bold artwork derived from sketches, journals and research from those who created the theme park.

“Tiffins is the signature restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, celebrating the culture of design and research that went into creating this unique park,” said Emily O’Brien, Walt Disney Imagineering executive show producer for Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

O’Brien describes the interior design as “a gallery you can dine in with artwork that is a direct result of travels to Africa, Asia and South America which influenced the design of the park.” The ideas of the park’s design team, including sketches, photography, architecture and textures, are all presented in a way that is uniquely Disney.

“All the senses are explored and turned into amazing works of art,” said O’Brien. “The galleries, or dining rooms, focus on Asia [Trek Gallery with 74 seats] and Africa [Safari Gallery with 64 seats], and the third [Grand Gallery with 114 seats] pays homage to animal species that the Disney Conservation Fund works to protect.”

The travel-inspired artwork includes a static, three-dimensional piece that features prayer flags blowing in the wind. “As our research team traveled up the high mountains of Nepal, the winds were strong,” explained O’Brien. “The prayer flags are rarely seen hanging, they are always blowing.” This portrayal of the motion is realistically captured in the display which will hang above a corner booth in the Trek Gallery.

“Tiffins is not about a make-believe place, it’s about real people and places,” said O’Brien.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is about the intrinsic value of nature, transformation through adventure and a personal call to action, and the adjacent Nomad Lounge brings into focus these core values. With beautiful waterfront views, the lounge focuses on storytelling, and also on guests’ travels, with large banners as “artistic representations” of answers to travel questions written on the perimeter wall. For instance, “what do you always do when traveling” or “what was your most adventurous moment?”

“We’re trying to tell the story of how guests can make a change,” said O’Brien. While the answers of Disney experts are displayed, guests also have the opportunity to purchase a tag that supports the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund and to write their own answers to the questions to display above the bar– a way to share their own travel stories “so they can be a part of the story,” said O’Brien.

Pixar’s “Finding Dory” – Meet The Characters And Voice Actors Behind Them

finding-dory

Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Dory” reveals its full roster of characters, as well as the voice talent tapped to help bring each character to life. Directed by Andrew Stanton, who helmed the Oscar®-winning films “Finding Nemo” and “WALL•E,” “Finding Dory” revisits everyone’s favorite blue tang Dory as she embarks on a life-changing adventure to find her family.

“It really is a whole new chapter this time,” said Stanton. “We’re introducing new characters—each with his or her own unique voice. Everyone has something special to offer, which makes it fun and elevates the whole story. ‘Finding Nemo’ was a great calling card when it came to casting this movie. I don’t take that for granted.”

“Finding Dory,” which opens in theaters nationwide on June 17, 2016, features the following lineup.

FINDING DORY - DORY (voice of Ellen DeGeneres) is a bright blue tang with a sunny personality. She suffers from short-term memory loss, which normally doesn’t upset her upbeat attitude—until she realizes she’s forgotten something big: her family. She’s found a new family in Marlin and Nemo, but she’s haunted by the belief that someone out there is looking for her. Dory may have trouble recalling exactly what—or who—she’s searching for, but she won’t give up until she uncovers her past and discovers something else along the way: self-acceptance. ©2016 Disney•Pixar. FINDING DORY - Pictured (L-R): One year after his big overseas adventure, NEMO (voice of Hayden Rolence) is back to being a normal kid: going to school and living on the coral reef with his dad and their blue tang neighbor, Dory. His harrowing adventure abroad doesn’t seem to have sapped his spirit. In fact, when Dory remembers pieces of her past and longs to take off on an ambitious ocean trek to find her family, Nemo is the first to offer his help. He may be a young clownfish with a lucky fin, but Nemo wholeheartedly believes in Dory. After all, he understands what it’s like to be different. MARLIN (voice of Albert Brooks) may have traveled across the ocean once, but that doesn’t mean he wants to do it again. So he doesn’t exactly jump at the opportunity to accompany Dory on a mission to the California coast to track down her family. Marlin, of course, knows how it feels to lose family, and it was Dory who helped him find Nemo not so long ago. The clownfish may not be funny, but he’s loyal—he realizes he has no choice but to pack up his nervous energy and skepticism and embark on yet another adventure, this time to help his friend. ©2016 Disney•Pixar. FINDING DORY - HANK (voice of Ed O’Neill) is an octopus. Actually, he’s a “septopus”: he lost a tentacle—along with his sense of humor—somewhere along the way. But Hank is just as competent as his eight-armed peers. An accomplished escape artist with camouflaging capabilities to boot, Hank is the first to greet Dory when she finds herself in the Marine Life Institute. But make no mistake: he’s not looking for a friend. Hank is after one thing—a ticket on a transport truck to a cozy Cleveland facility where he’ll be able to enjoy a peaceful life of solitude. ©2016 Disney•Pixar. All Rights Reserved.

Destiny resides in the Marine Life Institute, where one day an oddly familiar blue tang named Dory falls into her pool. Destiny is admittedly embarrassed by her obvious lack of grace, a product of poor eyesight, but Dory thinks she swims beautifully. The good news—or bad news, depending on who you ask—is that doctors at the MLI can’t seem to find anything wrong with him. Bill Hader and Kate McKinnon make a cameo appearance as a fish couple that Dory briefly encounters along the way.

Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Dory” welcomes back to the big screen everyone’s favorite forgetful blue tang Dory (voice of Ellen DeGeneres), who’s living happily in the reef with Marlin (voice of Albert Brooks) and Nemo (voice of Hayden Rolence). When Dory suddenly remembers that she has a family out there who may be looking for her, the trio takes off on a life-changing adventure across the ocean to California’s prestigious Marine Life Institute, a rehabilitation center and aquarium. In an effort to find her mom (voice of Diane Keaton) and dad (voice of Eugene Levy), Dory enlists the help of three of the MLI’s most intriguing residents: Hank (voice of Ed O’Neill), a cantankerous octopus who frequently gives employees the slip; Bailey (voice of Ty Burrell), a beluga whale who is convinced his biological sonar skills are on the fritz; and Destiny (voice of Kaitlin Olson), a nearsighted whale shark. Deftly navigating the complex inner workings of the MLI, Dory and her friends discover the magic within their flaws, friendships and family. Directed by Andrew Stanton (“Finding Nemo,” “WALL•E”), co-directed by Angus MacLane (“Toy Story OF TERROR!”), and produced by Lindsey Collins (co-producer “WALL•E”), Disney•Pixar’s  “Finding Dory” swims into theaters June 17, 2016.

REVIEW: “Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters” – The Little Ride That Could (Change U.S. Parks Forever)

IMG_1250

At first glance, the opening of Disney California Adventure Park’s newest ride, Luigi’s Rollickin’ Roadsters, may not seem like a groundbreaking event, and certainly not an “American Ride Revolution.” It is, after all, the successor of the under-performing Luigi’s Flying Tires – a ride that, in the eyes of the public, just wouldn’t float.

IMG_1112

“Roadsters” may appear to be a mere bagatelle: a mid-level carnival caper. But the carefree, dancing, cartoonish Italian cars belie a powerful digital program, which is the first of its kind in the U.S. Disney Parks, and likely to control much of the next generation of theme park attractions.

As you can see from the pictures and videos, the ride operates without a track. Instead, a system akin to GPS (but not actually GPS), positions the little Italian cars as they dance, spin, and do-si-doe to unheard and unseen instructions as if by… um, fiat. The vehicles make their moves across a mostly featureless concrete surface, on the former footprint of a ride that once used beach balls to distract guests from its inaction.

Trackless ride systems do exist in offshore Disney Parks, including Pooh’s Honey Hunt at Tokyo Disneyland, Aquatopia at Tokyo DisneySea, Ratatouille at Walt Disney Studios Paris, and Mystic Manor at Hong Kong Disneyland. Pooh’s Honey Hunt, a traditional dark-ride with ride vehicles that also can’t resist a chance to dance, was the first, debuting over a dozen years ago.

Possibly as interesting as the high-tech choreography, is the charging system that keeps the ride rollicking through long operational days. The final dance move is where cars take turns positioning over a nondescript round metal plate, where they nest, plug in, and remain for the roughly two minute unload/load cycle. This short respite is apparently all they need to get through a few sets. (Editor’s note:  Although speculation on the Internet has hypothesized an induction charging system (like that used at Universe of Energy), this charging system is most definitely not induction.  Careful observation reveals the contact points that make an electrical connection while the cars are stationary.)

IMG_1109

The result is a pleasant family attraction akin to Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree. A suitable supporting player to the headlining Radiator Springs Racers on the Cars Land slate.

Bothans relate that the becoming Star Wars areas at Disneyland and Disney Hollywood Studios will use similar trackless tech in a “chase ride” featuring the First Order and the Resistance.

PHOTOS, VIDEO: La Nouba Trapeze Artists Practicing For Historic Trick

055

On Thursday, March 31ST, Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba, in partnership with Experience Kissimmee, will stream LIVE via Facebook Live and Periscope as the energetic Trapeze troupe attempts two rarely performed tricks that only a handful of Trapeze artists have accomplished. The “Double Double & ½ Layout to the Legs” is an extremely skillful maneuver that includes a 2 ½ backward layout with a twist, all performed within seconds before the artists is caught by his legs. The second trick will be a “Quadruple” layout, which is rumored to be completed less than 20 times in the 150 year history of Trapeze.

007

On Tuesday afternoon, I was able to attend a special behind the scenes performance that showed the trapeze artists practicing for this Thursday night’s record breaking performance.

IMG_1009

Not only was I able to witness their performance from the audience seats, but I was also taken seven stories above the arena for a amazing view from the rafters and actually above the performers themselves.

091

After the practice was over, I got to meet the trapeze artists and I was stunned to find out that most of them were second and third generation trapeze performers with the art-form being a passion that was shared with them at a very young age by their families. Only two member will try to break the record but they all are confident and have no doubt that a record will be broken Thursday night.

098

If you happen to be at Disney Springs this Thursday (or watching the worldwide live stream which La Nouba will be providing) be sure to check out Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba and cheer on the amazingly talented team of trapeze artists as they look to become a part of history!

VIDEO: New Clips And Featurette Released For Disney’s “The Jungle Book”

JBX

Walt Disney Studios has released two brand new clips and a featurette for Disney’s “The Jungle Book”.

This featurette shows how director Jon Favreau was inspired by the original Disney animated classic. Favreau is also joined by the cast as they discuss what it was like to bring the Disney classic to life.

“Hibernation”:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpZIeo4oIoA&feature=youtu.be

Directed by Jon Favreau (“Iron Man”), based on Rudyard Kipling’s timeless stories and inspired by Disney’s classic animated film, “The Jungle Book” is an all-new live-action epic adventure about Mowgli (newcomer Neel Sethi), a man-cub who’s been raised by a family of wolves. But Mowgli finds he is no longer welcome in the jungle when fearsome tiger Shere Khan (voice of Idris Elba), who bears the scars of Man, promises to eliminate what he sees as a threat. Urged to abandon the only home he’s ever known, Mowgli embarks on a captivating journey of self-discovery, guided by panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (voice of Ben Kingsley), and the free-spirited bear Baloo (voice of Bill Murray). Along the way, Mowgli encounters jungle creatures who don’t exactly have his best interests at heart, including Kaa (voice of Scarlett Johansson), a python whose seductive voice and gaze hypnotizes the man-cub, and the smooth-talking King Louie (voice of Christopher Walken), who tries to coerce Mowgli into giving up the secret to the elusive and deadly red flower: fire. The all-star cast also includes Lupita Nyong’o as the voice of the fiercely protective mother wolf Raksha, and Giancarlo Esposito as the voice of wolf pack’s alpha male Akela. “The Jungle Book” seamlessly blends live-action with photorealistic CGI animals and environments, using up-to-the-minute technology and storytelling techniques to immerse audiences in an enchanting and lush world. The wild adventure swings into theaters in 3D on April 15, 2016.
