An area of Maharajah Jungle Trek has been behind walls for several months now as a new home is built for these creatures, the lion-tailed macaque. The monkeys have been living backstage already for several months now. They have also been added to the attraction signage recently.

The exhibit will be home to three females and one male of the species. Here is some background information on these particular monkeys:

The lion-tailed macaque (Macaca silenus), or the wanderoo, is an Old World monkey endemic to the Western Ghats of South India.

The hair of the lion-tailed macaque is black. Its outstanding characteristic is the silver-white mane which surrounds the head from the cheeks down to its chin, which gives this monkey its German name Bartaffe – “beard ape”. The hairless face is black in colour. With a head-body length of 42 to 61 cm and a weight of 2 to 10 kg, it ranks among the smaller macaques. The tail is medium in length, about 25 cm, and has a black tuft at the end, similar to a lion’s tail. The male’s tail-tuft is more developed than that of the female.

Gestation is approximately six months. The young are nursed for one year. Sexual maturity is reached at four years for females, and six years for males. The life expectancy in the wild is approximately 20 years, while in captivity is up to 30 years.

New Celtic Rock Band Coming to Canada at Epcot This Fall

According to Le Journal de Montreal, a highly acclaimed new band is coming to the Canada pavilion at Epcot for a limited time.

After presenting concerts in Quebec and Europe this summer, Celtic rock band Bodh’aktan will perform for two periods of 20 days at Epcot in October and January. Bodh’aktan will be performing 20 minutes every hour, five days a week, as part of this contract. Disney wanted the band to sign a 6 month contract, but they declined as they did not want to be that far from their families for that long of a period.

While not a permanent replacement for the revolving Canada stage, it should be an enjoyable temporary offering. Alberta Bound will be working at the Mills Stage until that time. The Holiday Voyageurs will perform during Holidays Around the World in-between these two 20-day stands.

PHOTO: The Hollywood Tower Hotel Sign Already Removed from Tower of Terror

While the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney California Adventure still has a few months left until it closes in January to make way for the Guardians for the Galaxy – Mission Breakout attraction, Disney has already removed the trademark Hollywood Tower Hotel signage from the attraction overnight.

It is a little strange to remove the sign with so much time still left for the current ride to operate, but likely work like this will continue to be done to make the transition into the new ride a much quicker process.

Here is what the sign once looked like on opening day…

BREAKING: FuelRod Service at Walt Disney World Expanding to 25 Kiosks Due to Overwhelming Guest Demand

When we broke the news of the addition of FuelRod service to the Walt Disney World Resort a few months ago, the overwhelming response to the post was a pretty good indicator that guests were receptive to the idea. Well, due to what sources inside the company are saying is an “overwhelming response to the program”, FuelRod will be expanding resort wide over the next few weeks.

If you are unfamiliar with what FuelRod is, you will want to check out my review of the product and guide to how it works.

According to FuelRod employees, 15 additional FuelRod kiosks will be added resort wide. So far, we have seen 3 additional machines added to the Magic Kingdom, doubling capacity at Town Square Theater/Curtain Call Collectibles, the Tomorrowland Light and Power Co., and Big Top Souvenirs (locations who already had kiosks but simply added a second this week).

S second FuelRod kiosks lies steps away from the first at the Tomorrowland Light and Power Co.

A second FuelRod kiosks lies steps away from the first at the Tomorrowland Light and Power Co.

Another 12 of these FuelRod machines are now going to be added to the other parks, as Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom all have just one FuelRod kiosk each. Epcot will be adding at least 4 more kiosks, but we were unable to get information on how the rest of the new kiosks will be distributed, but they should be arriving soon enough.

FuelRod kiosks hold 75 fully charged FuelRods inside of them, but then need to be manually refilled by a FuelRod agent throughout the day as the stock is depleted. The existing kiosks needed to be refilled several times a day at Walt Disney World, a problem FuelRod never experienced at any of their other locations around the country. The Fuel Rod agents typically run around Walt Disney World, from machine to machine, refilling them. The agent we spoke to seemed overwhelmed with the workload as the kiosks only hold so many FuelRods and each of the existing 13 machines needed to be refilled at least more than once a day.

The addition of 15 more FuelRod kiosks will bring the total at Walt Disney World to 25, up from the original 10. We will provide an updated list of locations once it is available.

VIDEO REVIEW: Tom Attempts Ratatouille Hide & Squeak Scavenger Hunt at Epcot’s Food & Wine Festival

Part of this year’s Epcot International Food & Wine Festival is a scavenger hunt featuring Remy from Disney-PIXAR’s Ratatouille. The offering was introduced last year during the event as something new for children to do as their parents ate and drank their way around the world, so I figured why not record a couple of full grown adults trying to complete something meant for children. Here’s what happened…

Dr. Strange Meet and Greet is Coming to Walt Disney World?

A rather interesting casting call was put out recently on the Disney Auditions website:

Disney Parks Talent Casting is seeking male actors to portray Doctor Strange for a limited engagement appearance this fall at the Walt Disney World® Resort, near Orlando, FL.

As you probably know, no MARVEL characters appear at the Walt Disney World Resort per the deal between MARVEL and Universal Parks and Resorts. So, has Disney found another loophole in regards to the Dr. Strange character, similar to those surrounding the Guardians of the Galaxy (who once appeared at Disney’s Hollywood Studios) or will this take place outside of a theme park? Only time will tell.

Disney Files Patent to Project Moving Images in Hotel Rooms

img_4158

Disney has filed a patent for specialty lightbulbs that would be able to project animated imagery onto surfaces in guest hotel rooms (in theory). The patent filing provides further info on how the experience might work:

img_4157

For instance, right now if one plays a car racing game on a computer, they not only drive the cars, they also hear them, hear other cars, hear the crowd, see fiery crashes, hear the explosions, and the game play is back-grounded by emotional music and the like. If they play with a slot car, they only get to drive a car. There are few sounds, certainly no background music to amp up the emotions. When they play on a screen, the world is completely surrounding and immersive, they only have to move by brain through the frame of the screen bezel and they are into another world. If they play in their room, none of this is true. The goal of the projector with its camera and audio attachments of the display systems described herein is to allow a room, where ever the room is located, to become as immersive as any screen environment or even more so.

To this end, the display system is a device that can be both an input and an output device. On the output side, the display system is a projector of still or animated visual imagery, and the display system may include a speaker or otherwise be capable of sending audio signals to speakers elsewhere in the room. In this way, the display system may provide an audio track to projected imagery to enhance the display and/or gaming experience.
