BREAKING: J.J. Abrams Returning to Direct and Co-Write Star Wars: Episode IX
Star Wars: The Force Awakens director J.J. Abrams is returning to direct and co-write Star Wars: Episode IX.
The announcement comes just one week after news hit that Colin Treverrow would no longer be at the helm of the Star Wars sequel trilogy finale.
Abrams will be co-writing Episode IX with Chris Terrio, who served as a writer on Argo, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and the upcoming Justice League.
“With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy in regards to the announcement.
Star Wars: Episode IX is currently slated for a May 24, 2019 release, though that date may change with the shakeup in production.
