Skeleton Dance?

Today in 1929, Disney’s first Silly Symphony was completed. It was titled “Skeleton Dance”. We thought this would be a good time to remind everyone that the Silly Symphony series will be coming to stores this year and we think the Skeleton Dance is high on the list of possible figure designs. I personally think it would be cool if they could reproduce the character above on a vinyl, but that seems unlikely.

Previously they released this Holiday 1 LE figure based on the short, but I think it’s been long enough that we could get another one. What do you think?

Collector’s Corner: Crazy4Vinyls

Today we are featuring the collection of a custom artist we know. Here is Crazy4Vinyls’s collection.

How long have you been collecting?
I bought my first blind boxes during a trip to WDW when Park 2 was released.  I didn’t buy another one until another trip to WDW in January of 2011, when I came home with 40 more.  So I would say I have been collecting since January 2011.

How many Vinylmation do you have?
I think I am a little over 550 at this point.

Who is your favorite Disney Artist?
I would say my favorite artist is Randy Noble.   He is probably most famous for the Park 1 balloon chaser but he also designed my favorite vinylmation.

Favorite Disney Vinylmation you own?
I think that is pretty easy to tell.  It’s the Park 2 little green man from toy story.  This was my first vinylmation I ever bought.

Favorite custom you own?
My favorite custom is the LGM candy bowl created by Celeste.  When she was showing off her candy bowl series, I knew I had to have one.  So I contacted her and asked if she could create a claw coming out of the head.  It looks wonderful!

The piece you don’t have yet, but consider your holy grail?
That’s a hard one because I have many pieces in my collection that would probably top the list of grails.  The one that I am looking to add to my collection is the last tin that I need which would be the Cinderella Tin.

Upcoming set you’re most looking forward too?
I’m an old mold collector.  I don’t get too excited for many of the new sets that are coming out.  I only have 2 new mold sets in my collection-Furry Friends and Robots 3.   So how about this, I am looking forward to trying to get all of the old mold variants next to add to my collection.

Spotlight On: Mike Vetrone’s Poison Apple Custom

Mike Vetrone sent us a few photos of and a few words on his most recent creation:

“I wanted to share with you one of my most recent works.  It is a 9 in Bad Apple from Snow White.  I wanted to really emphasize the “poison” on the apple so I sculpted it!

This was a total challenge for me, but it was a great learning experience and I love the outcome.  On the back it featured the old hag’s hand holding the apple and the “body” of the Vinylmation is her sleeve.  On the front of the body it featured Snow White and the Prince which acts as foreshadowing.  Enjoy!”

Spotlight on Joshua Pirtle’s Gravity Falls Custom Combo

We were sent some photos of a pair of Gravity Falls customs by Joshua Pirtle from Kissimmee, Fl. Gravity Falls is a Disney Channel cartoon and these vinyls feature the main characters.

Destination Vinylmation: What got you into painting Vinylmation?
Joshua: Back when I started collecting with Park Series 2, I really wanted Vinylmation of two of my favorite characters Donald Duck and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. So I got two blanks and that’s when it all began.

DV: How did you decide to choose Gravity Falls as the subject of these customs?
Joshua: I was watching the show one day and was thinking that Vinylmation of these two characters would be great. Especially now that there was a mold that had a baseball cap.

Parks Starz 2 Variants Announced

Kind of a tricky headline for kind of a tricky piece of news. Disney’s Vinylmation website decided to tease us a bit by telling us that there will be Park Starz 2 variants, how many there will be, how much each one will cost and the edition size of each one… but no names or photos! But we can surmise some info from the post. Here is the lineup:

June

Edition Size: 2,000
Retail: $24.95

July

Vinylmation – Park Starz #2 – Limited Edition Variant Figure Set

A few notes. One release is LE 1,000 while the rest are 2k… and you will pay an extra $2 for that one. Then, the first July release says “Figure SET.” SET?! Hmmm, what will that mean? I have a few ideas. My Ben Franklin and Mark Twain combo pack for one. Or how about the other two hitchhiking ghosts? What do you think some of these variants will be? Check out our Park Starz 2 Explained page to see the lineup of regular figures.

Rumored Release Dates and Series: Muppets, Masks and Surf

Some rumored release dates, and one never before heard of series, were posted by Vinylmation Kingdom. Remember, these are not confirmed by Disney, but let’s take a look.

May 20: Masks Series
We hered rumblings of this series a few months ago, now we have a rumored release date and a leaked photo posted by Vinylmation World.

Looks like we have: Cowboy, Theater, Ninja, Bank Robber, Hockey Player, Spa, Kabuki, Surgeon, Scuba, Beauty Sleep, Villain.

June 24: Mickey Surfs
We have to assume it will be similar to Wild West or Disney Tunes. I should take Disney characters and put them in a beach theme.

July 26: Muppets 3
Yay! Here are some previews we saw back a Mickey’s Circus.

Disney OMD Blog: “MINI MOVIE: ALICE IN WONDERLAND”

Disney artist Thomas Scott posted a link on Facebook to a fun story on the Disney OMD Blog. He was very excited they decided to use his Vinylmation figures to write this entertaining article:

Here’s something curiouser and curiouser. They say (unclear on who ‘they’ actually is) a picture’s worth 1,000 words. But what if you put words on top of a picture? Does it poke a hole in the space time continuum? Or does it just make the picture that much wordier? Let’s leave that riddle to the Mad Hatter. In the meantime, take a trip down the rabbit hole and spend your golden afternoon perusing our gallery of vinyl-tastic moments from Alice in Wonderland. We suppose you could just sit and talk to flowers for hours… but we think this is more fun…
