Star Wars Weekends #1

Hope you are enjoying Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The first of four action-packed weekends just wrapped up and there is a lot to recap.
First, Star Tours: The Adventures Continue had it’s grand opening on Friday, May 20. I had the chance to preview the attraction earlier in the week. It is already one of my favorite rides at Walt Disney World. It is a really fun time, truly immersing you into the Star Wars universe from queue line right through the ride. Check out my review here.

Just like any Disney attraction opening, the opening of Star Tours: The Adventures Continue was a grand affair. Check out the highlight video from the Disney Parks Blog:
This is one of my favorite events at Walt Disney World each year. Star Wars characters walk the park to meet and greet guests…
Disney characters also come out for the weekends. Meet Jedi Mickey, R2-MK, Goofy Vader, Storm Trooper Donald, Princess Leia Minnie and more!
There was a lot of buzz about the new R2-D2 Popcorn buckets. $15.50 for delicious Disney popcorn and a great looking souvenir.
Guests can also pick up R2 Mickey Ears for $14.95.
This weekend also marked the re-release of Star Wars Vinylmation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. You can purchase them for $11.95 per blind box at Tatooine Traders near the ride or Jabba’s Hut next to Rock ‘n Roller Coaster. They will be re-released at Disneyland on June 4th. Check out the set here.
Have you been on Star Tours or to Star Wars weekend yet this year?

40th Anniversary Cast Trader Found!

Update: 5/21/11 According to Disney, the WDW Cast Traders at at the warehouse awaiting pick up by the various stores are the WDW resort. They will be available any day now in all 4 parks and at Downtown Disney trading locations. Have a magical search!

At the trade show tonight, DV reporter Ryan got this out of the Disney Mystery Box. It’s one of the two variants to the WDW 40th Anniversary set. This piece (and its counterpart 71 piece) will only be available by trading in a mystery box at the WDW resort. Ryan will have more info on numbers and such from the show later, but it’s nice to know these are finally here! (And they should be one of the first truly exclusive WDW pieces ever! Congrats to everyone who got one! We saw quite a few floating out there.

First look at the B&W Set

Last week we heard a rumor about a LE set of 2000 called Black and White. The set was said to be by Sarah Matthews, and oddly enough, you are linked to the Disney Store page when you search for “Sarah Matthews disney artist” in Google! Sarah also runs “Orange Blossom Ink” with a fellow Disney Artist, Lisa Badeen. There was much speculation about this set (because the Disney Store page does not have a picture). It turns out that the set won’t be old B&W characters, but a 6 piece set of interesting design patterns in black and white.

What do you think about this set?

VinylKonrad’s Mystery Trading Box

Our buddy @VinylKonrad will be at the trading event tonight at WDW. He’s bringing with him a mystery trading box of his own. Make sure you stop by his table and check it out. Also check out our table with lots of trade options. We too are planing a mystery box, but it’s not nearly as cool as Konrad’s!!

The 9″ Urban 6 are Online!

This morning four of the 9″ Urban 6 Vinylmaiton were released in D-Streets and online at the disneystore.com. The Viking, Stars, Light Meter, and Love are all $39.95. All are LE of 800 except for Stars which is LE 600.

As of 11:20 AM (EST) all four were still available online.

For more info on the 9″s from Urban 6 check out this post:

This is not the price you were looking for….

Update: 5/20/11 @VinylKonrad snapped this pic for us. It seems that there might have been two different prices for the pieces in two different stores. But at least one of theme was selling it for $11.95, so make sure you get them at that price. Saves you $24 bucks!

Update: 5/21/11 At the trade show we ran into Claudia and she said that they had gone back and checked, and that it seems the store closest to the Star Tours ride was selling them at a different price than the Jabba store that was at the other end of the studios. Many other people also confirmed the lower $11.95 price. Interesting…. Can anyone else chime in?

Update: According to grumpychef25 he bought a boxes for $11.95. We will look into this more.

According to reader Claudia, they are selling the Star Wars vinylmation at $12.95 a box, instead of the $11.95 they were sold at back when they first were released in January.

Can anyone else confirm this?

What do you think? I know several of us were very surprised and happy to see the price at $11.95 the day of the release. I wonder why they changed it…

ZoMG: Ariel Noah 3″

Yesterday, we finally got a sneak peek at the 3″ Vinylmation designed by Noah for the Little Mermaid release at California Adventure on June 11th!!

We only get to see the front of the figure which looks fantastic! The same turquoise color was used as the 9 inch! (they would make quite the set!)

The figure has tiny details of bubbles all over the figure! Noah also pointed out via twitter today, “Noah little mermaid Vinylmation 3″ all have hidden mickeys in the bubbles”

What a great touch!! I don’t know about you but I LOVE when artists include hidden mickeys in their artwork!

No word yet on what the backside of the figure looks like.. Maybe the silhouette of Ariel? We will have to stay tuned to find out!

Vinylmation Speculation: The Return of Park 4?

Update: 6/1/11 We hear more and more that this is just a mistake on the store’s part, so we are closing this speculation out for the time being. Don’t worry, it doesn’t seem like Park 4 is coming back, every one’s high valued pieces are safe. (If only we can find me an EPCOT ’82 piece)

Update: 5/20/11 According to several comments, people are saying that those particular signs have been up for a while now. So this might not actually come true, however, it’s an interesting idea to think about, especially since we got a “re-release” of Star Wars. (I know it’s a different situation, but still interesting to ponder.)

A message was left on our Facebook wall by David saying he saw a “Coming Soon” sign next to Park 4 at Villains in Vogue at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Is this sign misplaced or did they find some cases of Park 4 somewhere backstage while cleaning up this past weekend? We will look into this. Park 4 wasn’t in stores long and demands a slight premium in the aftermarket. Would you be happy if more Park 4 were on the way?
