Disney “Pulls Back The Curtains” on The Imagination Gala

By Brendt

It feels like yesterday that I was flying down to Florida from New York, gearing up for Reflections of Evil. Well Disney is already looking ahead as today they dropped the first details on next years event, “Imagination Gala: A Magic Carpet Event”. Here is the information that they released today:

You’re cordially invited!

Unleash your imagination at a ceremony where we will celebrate the “bests” of Disney films and attractions. The best scenes, the best characters, and the best stories. Where we will celebrate the characters we “love to hate” alongside the ones who make us laugh. Where we will honor our “bests” with an “Imagination Award”, represented by a Golden Figment. At our ceremony, nominees will arrive in the grandest of styles: by way of a Magic Carpet instead of a Red Carpet!

The theme for 2014’s event is sure to be the toast of the town. Get ready for “The Imagination Gala: A Magic Carpet Event”! Be sure to mark your calendars for September 5-7 to save the date for this upscale affair.

Please note that at this time, the Gala is still in rehearsal, as the academy is diligently working to ensure a fun and spectacular experience for all! More details about the event will be released in early Spring 2014.

I must say I am pretty excited for this, and will once again be making the trip, I just wish it wasn’t so far away!!! I’m intrigued by the idea of giving certain characters and movies awards, and can’t wait to see how this is expressed on Vinylmation and Pins. Interesting choice using Figment as the central character for the event, as this could possibly alienate West Coast travelers. We will continue to post more information about this exciting event as it becomes available. Until then, let us know how excited you guys are below!!!

Enrique Pita Releases More Images of the Hawaii Exclusive Tiki Juniors

Following up with Nacho Rodriguez’s previous Instagram teases, Enrique Pita took to social media to post two more preview pictures of the Tiki Mickey and Minnie Juniors that are coming to Hawaii. According to his post, these new vinyls will release “soon” exclusively at the Ala Moana Disney Store in Honolulu, Hawaii. Take a look at the pictures below:

What do you guys think of these designs? I love the seashell bathing suit on the Minnie and the surfboard is a nice touch on Mickey. Its truly amazing how far Juniors have come, the detail on these is incredible!!!!

Spotlight On: Brian Shapiro’s Invertimation Series

Custom Artist Brian Shapiro is back with a very intriguing series customs set for next year:

I present my last custom of 2013 which is a preview of a series I’m going to do in 2014 called Invertimation!

That mischievous prankster, the Cheshire Cat, has teamed up with other tricky characters like Stitch and Genie to invert the colors of some of Disney’s beloved characters.  To undo this magic spell on your phone or tablet, simply invert the colors on it and look at the photo as shown.  For iOS devices go to Settings>General>Accessibility>Invert Colors.  I’m not sure how to do it on Android.  If you are viewing this on a monitor, invert the colors on your phone and look at the pic with your device’s camera.  Enjoy!

Next up is Experiment 626!!  See you in 2014!

Nacho Finally Reveals His New Two Pack (And I Couldn’t be Happier)

Today, Nacho pulled back the curtain on a brand new Two-Pack that he has been teasing for the past two weeks. It turns out that his “fancy” Minnie and top hat Mickey are in fact a brand new New York City exclusive!!! Take a look at the full designs below:

These two figures are supposed to represent Mickey and Minnie heading out to an old time Broadway show. According to Nacho, the Mickey has a “soft matte finish”, while Minnie has “a light pearlescent finish on her flapper dress”. The top hat and flapper hat on the figures are perfectly over the top too. And it seems like Nacho is just as excited about these as I am. Being born and raised in New York, I definitely feel a strong attachment to these figures, especially that box. I love going to Broadway shows and getting all dressed up and making a fun night out of it, just like these two are doing! According to Nacho, this two-pack should be available now at the Times Square Disney store. It doesn’t appear that they are limited, and no price was given. What do you guys think? Will you be adding these showstoppers to your collection?

Puppy Love for Valentine’s Day 2014

On January 24, 2014 our first duel three inch figure combo pack for Valentine’s Day will be released at D-Streets. This combo features Lady and the Tramp and is an edition size of 2000. It is a nice artist and cartoony take on the two characters that still leaves room for Animation series versions of these two love dogs that can be designed closer to the original animation.

Japan Exclusive Hinamatsuri Vinyls Coming Soon

Vinylmation Exchange has posted a new photo detailing two new Japanese exclusive vinyls coming out. The designs are of Mickey and Minnie and they represent the annual Japanese Doll Festival which occurs every year on March 3rd.

Great use of accessories, these vinyls keep well with the Japanese style we’ve grown accustomed to, and would look great next to any other Japanese vinyls in a collection. These will release on December 26th. What do you guys think?

Jrs. 7 In Space Chasers

Over at Vinylmation Exchange member Scott Friedman posted a picture of the two chasers to Juniors 7 In Space. Click on the image to reveal them.

What do you think? For chasers these really don’t do much for me. What about you?

Spotlight On: Amber Gonzalez’s Bilbo Baggins

This week while we surfed the facebook I noticed some customs I had never seen before. They were created by Amber Gonzalez. So of course, I had to get in touch with her and ask her about her latest creation. This is what she said…

Destination Vinylmation: I’ve never seen your stuff before. How long have you been a custom vinylmation artist?

Amber Gonzalez: I have been doing customs since August of 2012. Still new and loving every minute of it.

DV: Have you always enjoyed creating art?

AG: I’ve always been crafty. Started painting canvases about 6 years ago.

DV: We asked you to pick your favorite custom so far, and you picked your newest one, Bilbo Baggins. Why do you like this figure so much?

AG: I’ve always been a huge LOTR fan. Last year I made a custom Frodo. With the new movie The Hobbit I knew I had to make young Bilbo Baggins.

DV: I saw the movie, it was much more entertaining that I thought it would be. What else inspired you to make this piece?

AG: I collect LOTR Lego sets and that’s what inspired me to make custom vinyls of them .

DV: Lego makes great video games. Have you tried out the Lego LOTR video game?

AG: I do play all the Lego games. Sadly I bought the LOTR Lego and then my wii died.

DV: That’s a bummer. I think mine’s almost dead too. What was the most difficult part of this figure?

AG: The only hard part was trying to blox a myth and legends Bigfoot so I could use the over sized feet 🙂

DV: Awesome. From the pics of Big Foot I didn’t even know he had different sized feet! How did you make the ring?

AG: The ring is a Lego accessory. They work perfect for vinyls

DV: I love Lego, if you’ve ever listened to the podcast I always joke about leaving Vinylmation to do a Lego podcast. What’s your favorite favorite Lego Minifig?

AG: I would say my favorite Lego minfig is Professer Snape from Harry Potter. One of my all time favorite characters.

DV: Ok, we should get back to vinyl. What is your favorit Disney made vinylmation figure?

AG: Oo tough one. I’d have to say the 9″ UP, I don’t own it but it’s always been a grail of mine 🙂

DV: Thank you for your time. We have one more question for you. Do you take commissions and where can people find out more about your art?

AG: I do! People can email me at vongeek@yahoo.com and also find me on Instagram : HeartBakers

DV: Very good! Well congrats on the awesome piece and let us know the next time you have something interesting to show off! And remember custom artists, you can always email us to display your custom pieces.
