PHOTO REPORT: Disney’s Hollywood Studios 10/17/17 (Merry Christmas, Happy Star Wars & Toy Story Land, ETC.)
We return to what’s left of Disney’s Hollywood Studios for our latest photo report, checking out the latest progress on all of the upcoming projects…
Hooray for Horizontal Construction
Work continues on the expansion and reconfiguration of the parking lot.
Meanwhile, land has been cleared and work has begun on the Disney Skyliner station that will be located just outside of the park.
The stage for Star Wars: A Galaxy Far Far Away is down while they work on the mobile stage for the show.
MERRY CHRISTMAS
Celebrity 5 & 10 on Hollywood Boulevard is already a full-blown Christmas shop as of Friday the 13th. Makes sense…
The new line of Little Mermaid home goods has made its way to Florida. Check out the entire line here.
These awesome new Chip and Dale nutcrackers are available for $54.99 each.
A lot of the items from last year which did not have boxes now come in boxes for easier transport home.
I love the new decorations in the store which have a very 30’s vibe to them.
But then we are brought back to modern day by an ornament which has Mickey taking a selfie.
The new theme park related stockings are fantastic! All but one has been released already…
The one that is missing is the Hatbox Ghost from the Haunted Mansion. They retail for $27.99 each.
Construction
For a great overview of all of the ongoing construction, please check out our latest expansion update video below:
Work continues on the entrance to Toy Story Land…
I’m still dying to know what this weird tiny chunk of building will be…
Looking towards Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge construction.
Here we see the building for the Battle Escape attraction.
Here, we see the building that houses the Millennium Falcon attraction getting taller.
The chicken breast strips are now also an adult meal at ABC Commissary and they’re really fantastic for what they are.
Grand Avenue
Work continues on the very unfinished left side of Grand Avenue.
Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge rises in the background.
Here stands the tunnel that will transport guests to another planet.
More Holiday Spirit
It’s a Wonderful Shop has also stocked lots of new holiday decor items.
Including a new Hanukkah collection.
Echo Lake RefurbishmentÂ
The refurbishment of Echo Lake continues, with the race on to have the Christmas decor up by November 9th.
According to sources, Disney is set to a announce the cancellation of all future RunDisney events at the Disneyland Resort this week due to upcoming construction projects. The Star Wars Half Marathon – The Light Side was set to happen at the Disneyland Resort in January and has had its registration delayed indefinitely, leading many to believe the event may be cancelled altogether now. Typically, registration for this event opens several months in advance. The Disneyland Resort typically hosts the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend in May, the Disneyland Half Marathon in August/September, the Super Heroes Half Marathon in November, and Star Wars Half Marathon in January annually. No events beyond The Light Side are even listed on the RunDisney website currently. Rumors indicate that the events will be cancelled for at least the next two-to-three years while work continues on several large projects for the resort, including a new resort hotel, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, a MARVEL land in California Adventure, and the Eastern Gateway project. SaveSave As we told you earlier this week, starting today, guests may stay with their dogs at select Walt Disney World Resort Hotels. If they choose to, they will have to adhere to the following guest policies regarding their pets:
Disney has embarked on one of their most ambitious merchandise lines in recent memory, a collection celebrating all 50 of the United States of America. The collection is being sold at Epcot and is branded to The American Adventure pavilion, taking over pretty much the entirety of the Heritage Manor Gifts shop next door to the pavilion’s attraction. This awesome map picture is available for $21.95 and showcases all of the character artwork that will be used in the collection. I’m kind of partial to it since it uses Sam Eagle from America Sings at the top… If you’re wondering why it seems to use the same base characters over and over, I think they were going for a vintage style, something that would have been sold by the company 30-40 years ago. Also, it might make more sense to have characters everyone knows represent each state, rather than try to do over 50 different characters across the country. The strangest part is that the Florida and California items in the line were released at the D23 Expo this year with zero explanation that they would one part of a larger collection. The Florida items take center stage here, it being Florida and all. Assorted items related to 20 states are available now at Heritage Manor Gifts, but all of the items from all 50 states will be available through the Shop Disney Parks mobile app starting in November 2017. The state signs retail for $31.99 each. The metal license plate magnets are $11.99 each. The line also includes shirts, hats, and mason jars for each state. The lady’s shirts are $29.99, men’s are $27.99, baseball caps are $24.99, and the mason jars are $13.99 each. There are some items labeled simply for The American Adventure, not picking a particular state as a subject. The logo featuring Spaceship Earth behind the American Adventure is pretty spiffy. I’m somewhat impressed that all of the hats are very different in styling, not just all with a different logo icon slapped on them. A lot of care went into all of these items. Fantasyland Football shirts have been released over at shopDisney. Similar to what we see for March Magic there is once again a voting for your favorites to see which team comes out on top. To vote and to see who is winning simply visit this website. Right now they are running a special of buy one get one 40% off!
The Black Panther (Chadwick Boesman) seems like he is facing some real competition in this new trailer as we get our first look at him battling Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), and his very own version of the Black Panther costume. Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther” follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king—and Black Panther—is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life. “Black Panther” stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, with Angela Bassett, with Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis. The film is directed by Ryan Coogler and produced by Kevin Feige with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nate Moore, Jeffrey Chernov and Stan Lee serving as executive producers. Ryan Coogler & Joe Robert Cole wrote the screenplay. Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther” opens in U.S. theaters on February 16, 2018. Recreation of any kind of course, because we are rational people who don’t want to get sweaty after they just cooled off. Regardless, that’s where we are heading next… Surprisingly, the Walt Disney World Resort still offers much in terms of recreation and sports, from golf, both professional and mini, tennis, volleyball, etc. I’m here to give my list of the seven (yeah seven) best recreation and sports offerings at WDW. Even your non-sporty friends will be able to enjoy these, or at least I hope they do. With that said, let’s get right into the list. You thought I was finally going to hit the parks? I still have to go through the resorts, water parks, Wide World of Sports, and many other miscellaneous locations, and then, only then, will I get to the parks. I promise, it’s coming… Next time, I will be discussing my favorite resort dining on property. Minutes 6-10 of The Muppet Movie are now available! In minutes 6 through 10 we dive into Kermit’s swamp… wherever that may be. Kermit sings “Rainbow Connection” for us. We break down the song and discuss what it means to us and what it means to Kermit. Dom DeLuise makes a cameo here as Bernie the Agent. In quite possibly the most impactful cameo in the film, Dom triggers a thought process here that leads Kermit to discover his purpose in life. This group of minutes wraps up with Arnie the Alligator chasing Bernie way and Kermit pondering his next move. Abracadabar at Disney’s Boardwalk was a huge disappointment when it opened. After many months of hype that there would be another unique bar experience with a strong theme at Walt Disney World, we were all more than ready to burst through those doors and enjoy many nights of drinks, small bites, and fun. I was so excited that I waited outside for hours to be the first guest ever to enter the establishment. I ended up hating the menu so much that I never even felt compelled to write a review of my experience. There was no food and the drink menu catered to a very narrow audience. Needless to say, some sort of change was needed. It took a long time to get here, but those menu changes has finally materialized. Sadly, the really awesome “magic” menu books are gone, but there is an expanded menu, now with food options. Many of these are available next door at Flying Fish, but that doesn’t make this a bad thing. In this review, we’ll focus on items only at Abracadabar. New to the cocktail menu is the Hoodunit’s Punch. There are also some pretty interesting flights now. Comprised of Captain Morgan, orange juice, pineapple juice, and coconut, the Hoodunit’s Punch is nothing special, but it will do the trick if you aren’t a fan of the old-timer cocktails that comprise the rest of the menu. I appreciate that they are trying different things, but maybe go for something using these flavors that is slightly unique? While it is on the pricey side, this is one of the more enjoyable bourbon flights on property, and presentation wise it was more than pleasant. The Tap 357 Maple Rye is from Canada, so you may not easily find that elsewhere. The High West Campfire is our favorite of the bunch. And of course, the Woodford is fairly common, but overall a fun flight nonetheless. Topped with Feta Cheese, a Sriracha Aioli, and a spice blend, these fries are one of the best bar food items I’ve had at Walt Disney World. I’ve mentioned in several reviews how much I enjoy both steak fries and spicy dishes, and this combines two of my loves. They aren’t so spicy as I think anyone would find it to be overwhelming, and the presence of the feta does a nice job balancing out the flavors. I will be back for these a few times. Pardon my French, but this dish was trash. While the straw fries are still great, even without the seasoning, the fried fish tasted like it was removed from a bag frozen and thrown into the oven. I would not recommend these under any circumstance. The presence of some food makes a trip to Abracadabar more feasible, and the drink menu has some fine additions to boot. Abracadabar has a brilliant interior and is a great place to sit and relax, the menu just needed a kick in the rear honestly. I think some more creative, sweeter drinks to balance out the old-time cocktails would make this a can’t miss experience for everyone, and hopefully that will be addressed in the months ahead. Oh, and please remove the Fish Bites… SaveSave SaveSave SaveSave SaveSave SaveSave SaveSave SaveSave
