RUMOR: RunDisney Cancels All Future Race Events, Half Marathons at the Disneyland Resort

According to sources, Disney is set to a announce the cancellation of all future RunDisney events at the Disneyland Resort this week due to upcoming construction projects.

 width=

The Star Wars Half Marathon – The Light Side was set to happen at the Disneyland Resort in January and has had its registration delayed indefinitely, leading many to believe the event may be cancelled altogether now. Typically, registration for this event opens several months in advance.

The Disneyland Resort typically hosts the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend in May, the Disneyland Half Marathon in August/September, the Super Heroes Half Marathon in November, and Star Wars Half Marathon in January annually. No events beyond The Light Side are even listed on the RunDisney website currently.

Rumors indicate that the events will be cancelled for at least the next two-to-three years while work continues on several large projects for the resort, including a new resort hotel, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, a MARVEL land in California Adventure, and the Eastern Gateway project.

PHOTOS: Epcot Releases Massive “American Adventure” Character Merchandise Line Representing All 50 States

Disney has embarked on one of their most ambitious merchandise lines in recent memory, a collection celebrating all 50 of the United States of America. The collection is being sold at Epcot and is branded to The American Adventure pavilion, taking over pretty much the entirety of the Heritage Manor Gifts shop next door to the pavilion’s attraction.

 width=

This awesome map picture is available for $21.95 and showcases all of the character artwork that will be used in the collection. I’m kind of partial to it since it uses Sam Eagle from America Sings at the top…

 width=

If you’re wondering why it seems to use the same base characters over and over, I think they were going for a vintage style, something that would have been sold by the company 30-40 years ago. Also, it might make more sense to have characters everyone knows represent each state, rather than try to do over 50 different characters across the country.

 width=

 width=

The strangest part is that the Florida and California items in the line were released at the D23 Expo this year with zero explanation that they would one part of a larger collection. The Florida items take center stage here, it being Florida and all. Assorted items related to 20 states are available now at Heritage Manor Gifts, but all of the items from all 50 states will be available through the Shop Disney Parks mobile app starting in November 2017.

 width=

 width=

The state signs retail for $31.99 each.

 width=

The metal license plate magnets are $11.99 each.

 width=

The line also includes shirts, hats, and mason jars for each state. The lady’s shirts are $29.99, men’s are $27.99, baseball caps are $24.99, and the mason jars are $13.99 each.

There are some items labeled simply for The American Adventure, not picking a particular state as a subject.

The logo featuring Spaceship Earth behind the American Adventure is pretty spiffy.

 width=

I’m somewhat impressed that all of the hats are very different in styling, not just all with a different logo icon slapped on them. A lot of care went into all of these items.

Walt Disney World For College Students Part 5: Recreation & Sports

What do you normally not do after you go for a swim? Recreation of any kind of course, because we are rational people who don’t want to get sweaty after they just cooled off. Regardless, that’s where we are heading next…

Surprisingly, the Walt Disney World Resort still offers much in terms of recreation and sports, from golf, both professional and mini, tennis, volleyball, etc.

I’m here to give my list of the seven (yeah seven) best recreation and sports offerings at WDW. Even your non-sporty friends will be able to enjoy these, or at least I hope they do.

With that said, let’s get right into the list.

 width=

  1. Winter Summerland Miniature Golf: Located just outside Blizzard Beach, Winter Summerland features two 18-hole courses, both uniquely themed to winter and summer, based off a legend that ties the courses in with the water park. The courses are the remains of Winter Summerland, a vacation destination created by Santa for off-duty elves. Two courses, instead of one, were built, when the elves and Santa were divided between Florida and the North Pole, so a summer and winter course were each built as a result. It costs $14 per person to play ($12 per child) which is pricey, but the intricate details and beautiful theming make the experience well worth it.

 width=

  1. Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf: Located outside the entrance to the Walt Disney World Swan, Fantasia Gardens offers two 18-hole miniature golf courses based on the classic Disney animated film, Fantasia. While not at outrageously themed as Winter Summerland, Fantasia Gardens is still well-themed, with intricate details throughout each of the holes on both courses. There is also the more challenging Fantasia Fairways course, modeled after a traditional golf course, with sand traps, water hazards, bunkers, and sloping greens. The holes range in length from around 60 to 110 feet long. As someone who has played the fairways course, only play it if everyone in your party can tolerate it because it can be very agitating to play. It’s $14 to play per person ($12 per child) for any of the three courses, but you’re in for a fun time.

 width=

  1. In-Resort Recreation (Basketball, Tennis, Volleyball, etc.): Each Disney resort on property has a sport equipment rental tent or window, where resort guests can rent anything from basketballs to tennis rackets to volleyballs or ping pong paddles. The best part: this service is complimentary for all resort guests, so no need to pay extra. Hours of operation might vary by resort, so check your respective resort on what their hours are before leaving for your vacation or when you arrive.

 width=

  1. Swimming: All Disney resorts have pools open to resort guests. Resort pools are very popular congregation spots. That doesn’t mean that you can’t go for a swim in the pools offered. Now, these aren’t like Olympic-style pools, with platforms and lanes, but there is plenty of space to get in a great aquatic workout. However, if you want to go for a swim, choose your time wisely. It’s best to go early in the morning, or late at night, when most guests are either asleep or just hanging out in their rooms after a long day at the parks.

 width=

  1. Bike and Surrey Rentals: There are multiple locations on property that offer bike and surrey rentals. Bikes are $18 to rent per day and surreys are $25 to rent per day. Bikes and surreys are available at a first-come, first-serve basis, and you can rent them out for as long as you like, so the price her hour or per half hour gets lower the longer you use it. Hours of operation for bike and surrey stations vary, so check before you decide to rent one.

 width=

  1. Running and Walking Trails: There are dozens of running/walking trails on property. One of the best paths I like to utilize if I’m ever staying there is the Epcot Resort Area loop. Essentially, you can run from Hollywood Studios to the International Gateway entrance at Epcot, and then turn around and go past the Yacht and Beach Club, and the Swan and Dolphin, which is a good 3-5 miles at least. Resort trails can be lengthy as well depending on where you stay, so look at a map of the resort you are staying at before your trip so you can map out where you want to go.

 width=

  1. Fitness Centers: Trying to get those vacation gains, or just want to get swole before or after your day at the parks? Well, most resorts on property have fitness centers open to resort guests. Each is equipped with a selection of weights, benches, treadmills, elliptical machines, and other equipment. Everything is user-friendly, but you should know your limits before you go in because the object is not to hurt yourself. Always have someone come with you if you choose to use any weights or just to be there in case something goes wrong. Also, check your respective resort for hours of operation.

You thought I was finally going to hit the parks? I still have to go through the resorts, water parks, Wide World of Sports, and many other miscellaneous locations, and then, only then, will I get to the parks. I promise, it’s coming…

Next time, I will be discussing my favorite resort dining on property.

REVIEW: AbracadaBAR at Disney’s Boardwalk Adds Food, New Drinks to Fix Magic-Lacking Menu

Abracadabar at Disney’s Boardwalk was a huge disappointment when it opened. After many months of hype that there would be another unique bar experience with a strong theme at Walt Disney World, we were all more than ready to burst through those doors and enjoy many nights of drinks, small bites, and fun. I was so excited that I waited outside for hours to be the first guest ever to enter the establishment. I ended up hating the menu so much that I never even felt compelled to write a review of my experience.

 width=

There was no food and the drink menu catered to a very narrow audience. Needless to say, some sort of change was needed. It took a long time to get here, but those menu changes has finally materialized.

 width=

Sadly, the really awesome “magic” menu books are gone, but there is an expanded menu, now with food options. Many of these are available next door at Flying Fish, but that doesn’t make this a bad thing. In this review, we’ll focus on items only at Abracadabar.

 width=

New to the cocktail menu is the Hoodunit’s Punch.

 width=

 width=

There are also some pretty interesting flights now.

Hoodunit’s Punch ($12.50)

 width=

Comprised of Captain Morgan, orange juice, pineapple juice, and coconut, the Hoodunit’s Punch is nothing special, but it will do the trick if you aren’t a fan of the old-timer cocktails that comprise the rest of the menu. I appreciate that they are trying different things, but maybe go for something using these flavors that is slightly unique?

Unique Flavors Flight ($22.00)

 width=

While it is on the pricey side, this is one of the more enjoyable bourbon flights on property, and presentation wise it was more than pleasant.

 width=

The Tap 357 Maple Rye is from Canada, so you may not easily find that elsewhere.

 width=

The High West Campfire is our favorite of the bunch.

 width=

And of course, the Woodford is fairly common, but overall a fun flight nonetheless.

Thrice Spiced Fries ($11.00)

 width=

Topped with Feta Cheese, a Sriracha Aioli, and a spice blend, these fries are one of the best bar food items I’ve had at Walt Disney World. I’ve mentioned in several reviews how much I enjoy both steak fries and spicy dishes, and this combines two of my loves. They aren’t so spicy as I think anyone would find it to be overwhelming, and the presence of the feta does a nice job balancing out the flavors. I will be back for these a few times.

Fish Bites and Fries ($14.00)

 width=

Pardon my French, but this dish was trash. While the straw fries are still great, even without the seasoning, the fried fish tasted like it was removed from a bag frozen and thrown into the oven. I would not recommend these under any circumstance.

OVERALL

The presence of some food makes a trip to Abracadabar more feasible, and the drink menu has some fine additions to boot. Abracadabar has a brilliant interior and is a great place to sit and relax, the menu just needed a kick in the rear honestly. I think some more creative, sweeter drinks to balance out the old-time cocktails would make this a can’t miss experience for everyone, and hopefully that will be addressed in the months ahead. Oh, and please remove the Fish Bites…

CONFIRMED: New 350 Room Tower Hotel Being Constructed Near Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin

Coastal Construction Group is building a 350-room tower hotel near the existing Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Hotels, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

 width=

As previously rumored here, the hotel will occupy the site of the tennis courts and force some minor modifications to hole 1 of the Fairways Course at Fantasia Gardens. This site would be just steps away from Disney’s Hollywood Studios, although, as of right now, guests would still have to walk along the waterway to get there.

There is no further information available at this time.

PHOTOS: Ugly Christmas Sweater Mouse Ear Headband Released at Disney Parks, The Next Social Media Craze?

With most of the Disney fandom still stuck on the Rose Gold Mouse Ear Headband craze, it seems as though another item may be reaching that level of popularity this holiday season…

 width=

Released this week and already selling very fast is the Ugly Christmas Sweater Mouse Ear Headband. They retail for $24.99 each and we found a mostly empty rack of the item at Disney’s Days of Christmas store at Disney Springs just last night.

 width=

The ears are rather “unique”, featuring an ugly Christmas sweater pattern with Mickey and Minnie Mouse icons between two big red “pom pom” ears. While I don’t necessarily understand the popularity, they are already selling fast despite little to no publicity.

If those are a little too weird for you, there are two much more normal, fairly cute mouse ear head bands also available this season.

 width=

 width=

So, will you be buying this “ugly sweater” mouse ear headband, any of the more normal styles, or none at all?
