Event-logo-86

Disney has announced more details for Friday’s Disney Side Party at the Magic Kingdom, taking place from Friday May 23rd at 6AM until Saturday May 24th at 6AM. A cast of Disney Villains will have a special place in the Magic Kingdom 24-hour celebration, including Maleficent, Cruella De Vil and such rarely spotted miscreants as the Big Bad Wolf, Stromboli from “Pinocchio,” and Bowler Hat Guy from “Meet the Robinsons.”  They will appear in locations throughout the park and also join in the “It’s Good to Be Bad” cavalcade preceding Disney’s Main Street Electrical Parade.

Guests at the Magic Kingdom will enjoy nighttime dancing around Cinderella Castle and in Frontierland. The “#IncrediblesSuperDanceParty,” a nightly feature throughout the summer, will be followed during the All-Nighter by special screenings of “The Incredibles” at the Rockettower Plaza Stage in Tomorrowland.

A number of specialty drinks and treats will be offered during the 24 hours, and after the party ends, all these goodies go away except for two: the Olaf souvenir beverage and the Mickey’s Kitchen Sink Sundae. So plan your 24 hours of fun accordingly!

Heroes and Villains Take Center Stage in “Rock Your Disney Side Party” Entertainment at Magic Kingdom

RYV795544-613x344

Disney has released an official list of entertainment that will be offered at the Magic Kingdom during the “Rock Your Disney Side” Party on Friday/Saturday:

  • Everything kicks off with a special edition of the Welcome Show, as heroes and villains make their way to Magic Kingdom Park.
  • The “Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It!” Street Party will feature Disney heroes at 10 a.m. and Disney villains at 1:30 p.m. When it comes to the 5:45 p.m. performance, though, exactly who makes an appearance will be determined by your votes throughout the day, (Disney will release more information on how you can vote will be posted on Friday morning).
  • The Magic Kingdom Park parades will each have two performances, with the “Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade” at 12 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. and Disney’s Main Street Electrical Parade at 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. And don’t forget “Wishes Nighttime Spectacular” fireworks at 9 p.m. and “Celebrate the Magic” at 8:45 p.m., 9:45 p.m., and 11:45 p.m.
  • Prior to each presentation of Disney’s Main Street Electrical Parade, the Disney villains roll through Magic Kingdom Park in a pre-parade, celebrating how “It’s Good to Be Bad!”
  • Starting at 11 p.m., half of Princess Fairytale Hall becomes Scary Tale Hall, the perfect place to encounter Maleficent and the Queen from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.” (Don’t worry, though. The other side of the hall will still feature favorite royals Anna and Elsa.)
  • Later, around 1:45 a.m., the villains take over the rest of the park’s character greeting locations. Where Aladdin and Jasmine appear in Adventureland during the day, expect to find Jafar instead. Elsewhere, Dr. Facilier takes the place of Princess Tiana, Captain Hook subs for Peter Pan, and more!
  • In Tomorrowland, the #INCREDIBLESSuperDanceParty rocks the Rockettower Plaza Stage from 4:30 p.m. – 10 p.m., followed by Incredibles Movie Night with screenings of Disney•Pixar’s “The Incredibles” from 11 p.m. – 5 a.m.
  • Disney’s “Up All Night” Dance Party at Cinderella Castle and the Frontierland Dance Party on the west side of the park will keep things festive from 2 a.m. – 5:45 a.m.
  • This grand, 24-hour extravaganza concludes with a special “Kiss Goodnight” at 5:50 a.m. at the Railroad Station in Town Square on Main Street, U.S.A.

Also, don’t forget to join us at WDWNT for the Midnight Sugar Rush with free treats, fabulous prizes, and much more!

First-Ever Interactive Nighttime Show Coming to Hong Kong, Is Disneyland Park Next?

BoDFxb-IMAATOgj

Disney is reportedly about to unveil its very first truly interactive nighttime show in Hong Kong according to newspaper reports. The long-rumored “Disney Paint the Night” parade will reportedly debut in October and give guests the opportunity to control light colors on floats when they purchase a special device…

BoDiW6LIMAAxvqf

Think of it as taking the Glow with the Show technology to the next step by instead letting the guests control lights on the floats. The technology is already being tested at Disney California Adventure where guests who win the nightly Mickey’s Fun Wheel Challenge are granted a short window to control the lighting on Mickey’s Fun Wheel.

Rumors indicate a similar parade is being designed for Disneyland in California and may debut sometime in 2015 as part of the park’s 60th anniversary celebration.

VIDEO: Hyperspace Hoopla Replaced By New Stage Show & Symphony in the Stars Fireworks at Star Wars Weekends 2014

Untitled

A few months ago, we reported that the Hyperspace Hoopla show that has annually been a part of Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios would not be returning in 2014. Well, while we knew that the Symphony in the Stars fireworks would replace it, we did not know much about the short finale show that would precede the fireworks:

The show is fairly short and really isn’t much more than some pyro and some photo-ops for guests before the fireworks start. Hopefully, this will be built upon in years to come and be more of a spectacle on the scale of Hyperspace Hoopla.

Here is video of the Symphony in the Stars fireworks show, including some new pyro not seen in last year’s show:

We also have a neat video of the fireworks taken from outside of the park:

VIDEO, PHOTOS, & REVIEW: Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Soft-Opens in New Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom

After several very short soft openings during the week, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train attraction opened for most of the day on Friday/Saturday at the Magic Kingdom during the 24-hour Rock Your Disney Side party. As always, WDWNT was on the scene to bring you all you need to know about the new attraction:

BoUQsVpCcAAeK5k

The attraction officially opens on May 28th and FastPass+ is not guaranteed to be available for the ride until then. While the lines moved fast during the soft opening, there was also no FastPass+ in use. Regardless, the attraction loads quickly and your actual wait time shouldn’t exceed 45 minutes to an hour. The only line issues we have seen thus far is that the queue is too small. Often the line would only actually reach a 30 minute wait, but would wrap around the mountain. It’s likely that without FastPass+ offered, guests did not see another option but to wait in the line. I still think the queue space is too small and the existing stroller parking outside of the ride will probably be relocated to accommodate more queue in front of the ride. When the line moves well, the queue is very beautiful and entertaining (and has plenty of fans), so it won’t be such a bad stand-by line to wait in now and then.

The attentions to detail in the queue is amazing. There is moss applied to all of the walls, even within guests’ reach. I assumed that the moss would fall off as people would touch it, but whatever method they have used to apply it to the walls allows it to stay no matter how hard a guest might try to peel it off.

The interactive queue has 3 parts: sorting jewels, a motion activated musical device that pours water, and spinning jewel buckets.

Using large touch screens, guests can first sort jewels.

You can then run your hand under these faucets to play music and release a colored water stream.

Upon entering the interior queue, or the vault, there are then barrels of diamonds for guests to spin:

If you spin the barrels fast enough, a character will appear on the ceiling. Spin all seven fast enough at the same time and something special will happen:

At this point, you go through a few more switchbacks and arrive at the loading platform. The interior queue is pretty small, but it does reside inside the mountain which already has scenes and such that also take place inside of the building.

BoUlvOJCIAA9KrP

At times, the ride is a challenge to film, so we’re sharing two videos of the attraction with you today. The ride is very detailed and there’s a lot to see, so you’ll surely notice different things in each video:

The ride consists of 4 parts: an outdoor roller coaster portion, the indoor mine scene, the thrilling drop and ride across the bridge, and the Dwarfs’ cottage.

Let’s start by talking about the roller coaster… it’s definitely more thrilling than the Barnstormer, but not by much. The rocking mine car vehicles do not deliver the action most guests were expecting, but the rocking does get you closer to the ground on banked turns and works better than if the vehicles didn’t rock or sway at all.

The indoor dark-ride-type scene is gorgeous. The audio-animatronics are second-to-none. The projection faces on the characters and the fluid movements makes you truly believe that they are the Seven Dwarfs and not animated robotic figures. The jewels shine brilliantly, the music is infectious, and it builds to the large drop very nicely. I don’t think a more perfectly laid out, planned, and executed scene has ever been built for a Fantasyland attraction.

The finale scene with the cottage is brilliant. Disney Imagineers made sure to build something large enough that it could entertain guests sitting in the sun waiting to pull into the station and unload. Dopey and Snow White actually dance through the entire cottage, moving between rooms and in and out of the view of guests in the front and back of the train. Meanwhile, some of the animated Dwarf figures from Snow White’s Scary Adventures play instruments inside the cottage. If you sit near the very front of the train, you’ll get a nice long look at the Old Hag (in beautiful, audio-animatronic form) waiting to give Snow White the infamous poison apple!

The bottom line is the same with this attraction as the rest of New Fantasyland: it’s fun for the whole family, it is beautiful, and it is a wonderful representation of the film it depicts. Seven Dwarfs Mine Train isn’t a gate buster, but it’s arguably the most well-themed and executed kiddie coaster on the face of the earth. The show scenes are practically unmatched, and while the ride is short and not super-thrilling, we expect it to be a guest favorite for decades to come.

VIDEO: “Let It Go” & “For The First Time in Forever” from FROZEN Added to Festival of Fantasy Parade

215-XL

It’s no secret that Frozen was a last minute addition to the Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade at the Magic Kingdom when it debuted in March, but it was surprising to still hear Sleeping Beauty songs in the opening float music for the parade even though Anna, Elsa, and Olaf had booted Aurora out of the show. Finally, after a few months, a short snippet of “Let It Go” and “For The First Time in Forever” can be heard with the opening unit of the parade:

Since we were catching the parade to record this new musical piece, we went ahead and recorded the performance in its entirety, so if you have some more time to spend, you can watch the entire Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade as well:

SPECIAL FEATURE: Ratatouille – The Ride Construction Report from Disneyland Paris

As we informed you a few weeks ago, Disneyland Paris will be unveiling an entire realm of Ratatouille themed fun this summer with Ratatouille The Ride and “Le Bistrot de Remy” restaurant. The area will open inside Walt Disney Studios Paris park near the recently added Toy Story Land and Toon Studio. The attraction’s official name is “Ratatouille: L’Aventure Totalement Toquée de Rémy” and it allow guests to ride in a rat on a trackless ride system similar to Mystic Manor at Hong Kong Disneyland. Guests will enter all of the offerings through “La Place de Remy”, the courtyard area replicating the streets of Paris as seen in the PIXAR film.

WDWNT’s own Ron D’Anna recently visited Disneyland Paris and took some construction pictures of “La Place de Remy” as construction is wrapping up on the project:
