The “Old West” is New Again

From the Disney Parks Blog:

Newly Renovated Villa at Old Key West

When you walk into one of the newly renovated villas at Disney’s Old Key West Resort, you really notice a difference. I liked them before, but wow, they are really nice. The hardwood floors and whimsical window treatments caught my eye.

And I personally think they nailed it with the bedding. The warm colors are very elegant while still capturing the playful nature of Key West. The villas also have fancy new granite countertops, pretty new light fixtures and of course flat screen TVs. The housekeeping staff sure has fun creating the towel animals placed throughout the villas. Check out the images shot this week.

ElecTRONica Opens Tomorrow!!!

ElecTRONica opens tomorrow at 6:00 PM. Guests will be able to dance, drink, relax in a lounge, and play 1980’s video games??

From the Disney Parks Blog:

So, I posted a question last week: what do aliens, gorillas, and bugs all have in common? What if I asked what do Space Invaders, Donkey Kong, and Centipede all have in common? Would that help?

Well, peg those jeans, crimp that hair, and get ready to take a trip back to 1982. Because the answer to the question lies within the doors of Flynn’s Arcade. Yes, before you know it, you’ll be playing TRON and other classic 80s arcade games all night long!

Very soon, guests will have a chance to relive the days when PAC-MAN was king as our incredibly talented Imagineers at Walt Disney Imagineering have recreated Flynn’s Arcade from the upcoming film “TRON: Legacy” — exclusively for ElecTRONica at Disney California Adventure park.

Flynn’s Arcade, of course, was owned by Jeff Bridges’ character Kevin Flynn and was first seen in the original “TRON” film. Since Kevin Flynn’s disappearance in the late 80s, this fictional arcade has been boarded up and powered down…until now!

Here’s something else for you, since all the games in Flynn’s Arcade will require token use, we thought we would give you a look at how the game token went from concept and design…

to the actual token itself.

Pretty cool, huh? Once you get your token, you can use it or keep it. It’s up to you!

That’s all for now, but don’t forget ElecTRONica opens October 8 and runs Friday through Sunday this fall, and select holiday weeks from 6:00 p.m. to Park close, only at Disney California Adventure park. See you there!

Oh, by the way, what do aliens, gorillas, and bugs all have in common? Curious? I will reveal the answer in my next post and you’ll see how it all fits in with ElecTRONica.

“There Go The Muppets!” – Volunteer Cavalcade Leaves 10/2/10

An inside source has informed WDWNT that “Disney’s Honorary VoluntEARS Cavalcade” will have its final performance on Saturday, October 2nd, 2010, at the Magic Kingdom. If you are a Muppets fan, this will most likely be your last chance to see Kermit and Miss Piggy in the parks for a while.

The pre-parade was created for the 2nd year of the “What Will You Celebrate?” campaign titled “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day”. The promotion kicked off in January as an effort to get 1 million people to volunteer in their communites. It was such an unbelievable success that Disney ran out of the 1 million gifts (including free admission) in the Spring. The pre-parade was designed to showcase select volunteers visiting the Magic Kingdom that day as a gift for their service. The “Honoarary VountEARS Cavalacade” debuted on January 8, 2010.

Disney has not announced if or when a new pre-parade might debut.
