PHOTOS, VIDEO: See How Christmas is Celebrated at the Tokyo Disney Resort

From November 9 until December 25, Tokyo Disney Resort celebrates Christmas in its own unique way at both of its parks. Christmas Wishes at Tokyo DisneySea and Christmas Fantasy at Tokyo Disneyland. These two celebrations offer guests limited time merchandise, food, and entertainment! Be sure to check out the full guide on Christmas at Tokyo Disney Resort.

Christmas at the resort is done a bit differently compared to the US Parks. Traditionally Christmas is not celebrated in Japan, but has made its way over in the form of marketing. December 25 is considered a date night for many couples (much like Valentine’s Day). Other differences include:

  • Your park ticket includes all the seasonal entertainment. There are no separate event tickets.
  • There is no Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party
  • Haunted Mansion is transformed into the Haunted Mansion Holiday (similar to Disneyland Resort)
  • A small fireworks show is done in between both parks
  • Most restaurants at the Disney hotels and inside the parks have limited-time Christmas offerings. Some restaurants have their entire menu changed.
  • Decorations for Christmas come down right after the 25th to make way for New Years. Which is a bigger holiday in Japan.

Christmas Fantasy at Tokyo Disneyland

tokyo-disney-resort-christmas-2015-report

This year at Tokyo Disneyland their theme is storytelling, which is reflected in the storybook inspired decorations. Along with a brand new daytime parade “Disney Christmas Stories“. Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade Dreamlights also gets a Christmas version for the holiday season and a crowd favourite Country Bear Jamboree Jingle Bell Jamboree.

Snacks and merchandise are a big draw for many people. Notable the new Stitch Popcorn bucket with an adorable Santa Hat! 2015 was the Year of the Lamb, which brought Dear Danny into the parks in the form of merchandise.

Christmas Wishes at Tokyo DisneySea

Christmas is always a unique experience at Tokyo DisneySea. Since this park has its own spin on everything, Christmas is no different. From the over-the-top decorations in the American Waterfront to the Coral Reef Christmas Tree in Mermaid Lagoon. This year a brand new Mediterranean Harbor show “Perfect Christmas” was introduced, which oddly enough is the only show that includes Santa Claus. Christmas versions of two of their popular permanent shows “Big Band Beat” and “A Table is Waiting” are also showing.

Duffy the Disney Bear, Gelatoni, and Shellie May are some of the most popular merchandise at the resort every season. If you’re a fan, then getting your hands on these limited time outfits are a must. Other cute merchandise includes plush featuring Mickey and Minnie in their outfits showcased in the harbor show Perfect Christmas. A number of seasonal snacks and cocktails are also made available!

Overall Christmas is a magical time of the year at Tokyo Disney Resort. While Christmas events end after December 25th, the resort kicks it into high gear with the New Year’s offerings. Which is one of the shortest celebrations of the year, but offers limited merchandise, food, entertainment and a ticketed New Years Party!

Tokyo DisneySea Celebrates 14th Anniversary

Tokyo DisneySea opened its gate to guests on September 4th, 2001. The most ambitious Disney project at the time. Often referred to as one of the most unique Disney theme parks in the world, it is enjoyed by millions of guests every year. Earlier this year the Oriental Land Company announced a massive expansion to Tokyo DisneySea (along with Tokyo Disneyland). The future looks bright for both of these theme parks.

Before we look into the future, lets remember where Tokyo DisneySea all began. In this 45 minute documentary by the Travel Channel, they explain how this theme park came to fruition, to the challenges the Oriental Land Company faced.

PETITION: Disney Parks Should Introduce New “Courteous Guest Guidelines” for Better Guest Enjoyment np

How many times have you lined up for a parade or fireworks at a Disney theme park hours in advance, only to have your waiting squandered by another guest who decided to be rude? Whether it is guests putting their children on their shoulders, running people over with a stroller or ECV, or pushing their children through others so they can see, it seems like these types of situations are more and more evident in Disney Parks these days. I’m not saying these things never happened in the past, but it seems to be happening more and more as crowds increase annually at the parks.

The sad part is that unnecessary arguments over these types of things are often what lead to violent incidents in the park, whether it be verbal or physical. I have seen these incidents happen, and over the last few years I have been in the middle of situations where I was verbally attacked while my party was simply standing or sitting in a designated viewing area for parades or fireworks. These events led me to believe maybe someone should try to get Disney to do something about this. The more I thought about it, I thought why couldn’t I try to get the ball rolling on this instead of waiting for someone else to do it? That brings us to today…

Don’t get me wrong, Disney takes many steps to ensure guest safety and enjoyment. Here are the current Park Rules, as stated on Disneyland.com:

DLrules

Common courtesy between guests is encouraged in the park rules, but other than profanity, it isn’t very clear what exactly is prohibited. Perhaps some courtesies aren’t considered common to all people, so maybe Disney needs to be a little clearer about some things to make sure their guests do not have to try to police the parks themselves when another guest or group of guests is being rude, “disruptive, or offensive.”

IMG_0020

Tokyo Disneyland features a far more comprehensive guide to park policies on their maps. Line cutting and the holding of viewing space with personal items are addressed.

I will not attempt to draft the exact wording that Disney should place inside park maps or have dictated over loud speakers as there are teams of Disney lawyers who can do a much better job finding the proper way to word such policies. Rather, I will simply lay out the policies we feel Disney Parks should adopt and perhaps why if it is not self-explanatory. Included below are not just items related to entertainment viewing, but also some general policies that should probably be put in place.

-The act of placing children up on shoulders should be prohibited. I have visited the parks with children between the ages of 2-6. For the enjoyment of guests around us, I held the children to my side at my eye level. This ensured that the children could see and that I was not blocking the view of anyone around us. I know this could be a little more painful than up on the shoulders, but it really is the polite thing to do. This is pretty much an unwritten rule at the other Disney Parks around the world.

-Be sure to lower balloons or take off large hats before parades and fireworks. Your balloon can also block the view of guests around you. This policy is actually verbally stated in pre-show announcements at Tokyo Disneyland Resort.

-Do not push your child or forcibly place yourself between guests already waiting to view the parade or fireworks. If a guest is nice enough to allow other guests to share a space or to stand/sit in front of them, that is permissible, but guests should not be pushing themselves or their children into, over, or on top of other guests just so they can see. Arrive early for parades and fireworks shows as to ensure a good view.

-Use designated walkways and crosswalks leading up to fireworks and parades. Do not push between guests already waiting for the show just because you need to shave 5 seconds off of your travel time. Please use the pathways and such that cast members have worked very hard to set-up and maintain with tape, ropes, or the like. While sitting on the curb waiting for parades, I have been hit with strollers and ECVs. This is unnecessary and rude. Literally, there was a crosswalk manned by a Disney cast member with 5-10 seconds walking distance from us on all of these occasions.

-Cell phone usage in attractions should be prohibited. Please silence any and all electronic devices before entering a ride or attraction and please do not turn on your camera flash or screen lighting if a member of your party is frightened in a dark attraction. Simply follow the regulations at the attraction you are visiting, most of which have a cast member who would be happy to assist you in exiting or even a set of nearby, accessible exit doors that were explained before your experience began.

-Holding electronic devices over your head for taking photographs or video recording during attractions, shows, and parades is prohibited. Please hold your device at eye level as not to block the view of those around you.

Maybe some of these policies will be too much for Disney Parks to adopt today, but there doesn’t seem to be a real push to handle the situations caused by the lack of such policies in the parks. If this petition doesn’t go anywhere, at least more guests may be made aware of these issues by reading this, and that would be great. No one should have to have an argument with  a stranger at Disney World that could easily be avoided otherwise. We are simply suggesting that if such policies were posted, printed in guide maps, or announced verbally over loudspeakers before any event, many of these situations could be completely avoided. We hope you will agree with us and join us in the fight for these new courteous guest guidelines.

You can join this petition at Change.org, and please feel free to share this with anyone and help spread the word. If you are a blogger or media outlet, feel free to post this story as well. If you need or want anymore information, feel free to contact us as well. Thank you for your time.

PHOTOS, VIDEO, & REVIEW: Disney’s Easter Celebration at Tokyo Disney Resort

Tokyo Disney Resort does things a bit differently when it comes to spring. Disney’s Easter is a yearly celebration from April until the end of June (yes, you read that correctly). At Tokyo Disneyland, you can find the typical easter fare of bunnies and Easter eggs. Meanwhile, at Tokyo DisneySea a “Fashionable Easter” is the theme for 2015. For the Duffy fans out there, he gets in on the fun, too, with Duffy’s Easter Fair.

Here is a breakdown of all the offerings over at Tokyo Disney Resort for Disney’s Easter 2015. Full details can be found over at TDRExplorer and on the Official Tokyo Disney Resort website.

Tokyo Disneyland

The main draw to Tokyo Disneyland is the Hippidy Hoppidy Springtime Parade. As Mickey and friends celebrate the arrival of warmer weather, dancers are dressed in various bunny outfits along the parade route. They even have a dance to teach guests, so everyone can join in on the fun. This high energy parade will get anyone excited for springtime and colourful eggs.

Decorations around the park are subtle but adorable. Around the hub area you will find the Easter Garden, along with an Easter display at the entrance of the park.

Various character-themed easter eggs are hidden around the park as part of the annual Easter Egg Hunt. Visitors pay to play this game where you go around the park in search of hidden eggs. Return to the sign-up booth with a completed hunt, and you win a prize! There are challenges for both Japanese and English-speaking guests.

Any celebration is not complete with food, and for Easter, Tokyo Disneyland presents a wide array of new sweets to tempt everyone’s tastebuds.

Tokyo DisneySea

Departing from the “Spring Voyage” theme of previous years, in 2015 Tokyo DisneySea brings us Fashionable Easter. Mickey and friends show off their very best new spring outfits in a brand new harbour show showcasing amazing costumes. The production also is one of the first to use the new stage in the recently renovated Mediterranean Harbour. The costumes used in the production are stunning with incredible detail, and each is themed after a different port from DisneySea (Mysterious Island, American Waterfront, Mermaid Lagoon, and Lost River Delta.) If you get a chance to visit, then this show is a must.

Decorations around the park are just as elaborate as the costumes. At the park entrance are two gigantic and elegant eggs with Mickey and Minnie. At the American Waterfront, six fabulously themed eggs reflect the imagery of each of the ports within DisneySea.

Duffy’s Easter Fair

The insanely popular Duffy the Disney Bear gets his own celebration over in Cape Cod. While the decorations are not as over the top as the rest of the park, the merchandise makes up for it. Each season there is a new costume for both Duffy and Shellie May, and this time around they are getting two different outfits. One for Fashionable Easter, and another for the Easter Fair. Also, Duffy’s new friend Gelatoni gets in on the action.

If costumes are not your thing, but you are a Duffy fan (I can admit that I am a Gelatoni fan), there are many great merchandise options to choose from. From picnic items to stationary, you will not go home disappointed.

Conclusion

Spring at Tokyo Disney Resort is completely different than anything at Walt Disney World, with highlights you’d expect from these parks. If you are heading to Tokyo Disney Resort this spring, then be sure to pack your best Easter bonnet and enjoy a Fashionable Easter at Tokyo Disney Resort.
