REVIEW: New Menu Items at Restaurantosaurus in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park

Restaurantosaurus at Disney's Animal Kingdom

Recently, Restaurantosaurus at Disney’s Animal Kingdom underwent a slight menu change, so we decided we should head on over and check it out.

New to the menu is a Grilled Chicken BLT Sandwich, but there were a few things on the menu here that we had never tried before (which we will review below).

If you are interested in hearing more about the Double Angus Bacon Cheeseburger that is not pictured on the menu, we have an entire review dedicated just to that item that you should check out. Also,m Flights of Wonder is not a menu item and I’m not sure exactly why it has a strangely placed ad on the back of the menu…

I subjected myself to the new Chicken BLT sandwich. You can’t see the chicken in the picture above because the sandwich is topped with 1/4 of a tomato essentially.

Grilled Chicken BLT Sandwich ($12.99)

Grilled Chicken BLT Sandwich ($12.99)

The bun was soft and flaky (again, why don’t they just have this bun everywhere?), the bacon was cooked nicely, the tomato piece was large, juicy, and very fresh, and the chicken was cooked well enough. I know Disney seems to be overusing gate arugula lately (it is also on the Buffalo Chicken Chips we reviewed yesterday), but I really enjoy it. This sandwich was good and filling, and I would order it again if I was dining here.

Someone join our party ordered the ubiquitous Chicken Breast Nuggets, so I took a picture. The Weird part is that it now comes with a Southwest Salad. The Chicken and the fries were fine, but the Southwest Salad was bit on the unpleasant side and completely different from what we had experienced with the baked potatoes at Fairfax Fare.

Chili-Cheese Hot Dog ($10.69)

Chili-Cheese Hot Dog ($10.69)

Chili-Cheese Hot Dog ($10.69)

First off, the mushrooms do not naturally come with the hot dog, but were added at the rather large toppings bar you can find at Restaurantosaurus. This thing was terrible. The bun was flavorless, the hot dog itself was fairly standard, and chili-cheese topping left a lot to be desired. This is probably not what you want to eat here.

Chili-Cheese Fries ($4.99)

Chili-Cheese Fries ($4.99)

Chili-Cheese Fries ($4.99)

We also had an order of Chili-Cheese Fries, which as you would guess after reading about the hot dog, were also pretty bad. I don’t enjoy Disney counter service french fries and the chili-cheese topping didn’t improve upon them at all.

Overall

I like Restaurantosaurus typically. The interior and music loop are a lot of fun and there is certainly enough on the menu to please, you just need to be careful what you order. If you like chicken, the chicken sandwich and the chicken breast nuggets are fine options, and if you like burgers, the single or double cheeseburger won’t steer you wrong. Unlimited fountain beverage refills and a sizable toppings bar help out a lot too. I would easily go here over Flame Tree Barbecue and Pizzafari currently, but I would probably prefer Yak and Yeti’s counter service offering if I’m going that route.

UPDATE: Woman Attempted to Bring Gun into Animal Kingdom Monday, Same Day as Epcot Incident

As it turns out, our first report Monday of a person bringing a loaded weapon into a Walt Disney World Theme Park was correct.  There were actually two incidents Monday morning, one at Epcot and one at Animal Kingdom.  We had initially reported the Animal Kingdom incident, news of which we received from an inside source at the park, but as the Epcot incident unfolded, we had assumed our source was confused, as we would have never thought such an occurrence would happen twice within hours of each other.

But indeed our source was correct.  Court records show an Alabama woman, Baleigh Turner, was arrested on a charge of carrying a concealed firearm, after Disney security found a .380 caliber pistol in her backpack. Apparently the woman did have a concealed weapon permit in Alabama, but it had expired.  Even if the permit had been valid, weapons are not permitted in Disney theme parks.

RUMOR: Disney Has An Opening Date for Rivers of Light at Animal Kingdom and It’s Really Soon

I know that there has been a tremendous amount of speculation as to when Disney might be debuting Rivers of Light, the new nighttime show for Animal Kingdom (which is now a whopping 6 months late after being set to debut April 22nd, 2016), but it looks like we can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel now. Supposedly. Maybe.

"Rivers of Light,"the majestic nighttime jewel, coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom creates an illuminating musical experience for guests. Currently in development with a premiere date to be announced soon, "Rivers of Light" will celebrate the magic of animals, humans and the natural world with a blend of performers, floating lanterns and theatrical animal imagery. If sources are to be believed, Disney is eyeing November 18th, 2016 as the official debut date for Rivers of Light. This is not set in stone and is still being discussed internally, but it seems highly likely at this point in time. This would be just days ahead of the Destination D event where it is believed D23 members in attendance will get to be a part of a private showing of the new nighttime spectacular.

Regardless, we expect an announcement from Disney very, very soon.

If it makes you feel any better, some cast members who have been present for recent dress rehearsals of Rivers of Light have called it “stunning”, “beautiful”, and one even went so far as to call it “the greatest thing I have ever seen in my life”. Color me excited for this one, folks.

· A life-sized, edible spinning carousel is a holiday tradition at Disney’s Beach Club Resort while a holiday village with miniature train holds forth at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.

No holiday is complete without a special dining experience. Holiday menus that celebrate the season may be found at restaurants throughout Walt Disney World Resort. For holiday dining information and reservations, call 407 WDW-DINE.

PHOTOS, VIDEO: Discovery Island Trail and Kangaroos Return to Disney’s Animal Kingdom

On Friday, a few old friends came back to Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park.

img_5037

The Discovery Island Trail located behind the Tree of Life reopened, allowing guests to walk under the Tree for the first time in almost 2 years. The trails around the center of the Island are still closed, but it is nice to have this small area back in the park. Personally, this has always been a space I have used to escape the crowds in the park.

There is some wildlife to see along the path, including some porcupines and a large tortoise.

We also have a short video walkthrough of the trail for you to enjoy:

Kangaroos have also been gone from the park for two years now, but they returned on Friday to a habitat located just behind the Flamingo area towards the front of the Tree of Life.

The zoom on my video camera is better for viewing the kangaroos (who are rather far away), so check them out in the video below:

It’s nice too ee these offerings return as work on the expansion of the park begins to wrap up, hopefully fully completed by the Summer of 2017.

RUMOR: Destination D Attendees Will Be The First to See Rivers of Light Next Month?

Since April 22nd, 2016, we have been on a rollercoaster ride of rumors of when Rivers of Light at Disney’s Animal Kingdom might debut. Once the show was officially delayed, we reported first that the show would not make its debut in the Summer of 2016. We then heard rumblings that the show was close to being completed, and then were even told that the show is now finished and completed with rehearsals at this point. Just last week, a rumored to be mistaken posting on the Walt Disney World website made it seem the show may not debut until next May. Now, something fishy on the Destination D schedule has many a guest speculating that event attendees may be the very first to see Rivers of Light this November.

screen-shot-2016-10-19-at-8-30-41-am

The event wraps up on Sunday, November 20th at Disney’s Contemporary Resort with a presentation by Joe Rohde about Disney’s Animal Kingdom. After that, there is an optional in-park gathering at a Disney theme park, with no further details being shared as of yet. That being said, it does require park admission and Disney’s Animal Kingdom is scheduled to close at 7:30PM that evening. However, one could argue that it would make more sense to end the event with the much anticipated AVATAR presentation, unless you wanted that final presentation to lead into something that tied into it. Rivers of Light would certainly tie into a presentation by Rohde about the future of Disney’s Animal Kingdom…

I will say this particular rumor comes with no inside information on my part. It is purely speculation based on rumblings throughout the internet since the Destination D: Amazing Adventures schedule was announced yesterday. Tickets for the event are still available if you are interested, and regardless of the Rivers of Light event happening or not, should be a wonderful time for any Disney fan who attends.

UPDATE: The schedule for the event on D23.com was updated to state that guests will not need theme park admission to attend the in-park meet up. This now makes it more likely that guests at Destination D will be the first to see the show.

BREAKING: Images of AVATAR Theme Park Merchandise Leak; New Details of Animal Kingdom Land Emerge

There are still a lot of unanswered questions about exactly what guests can do and what they will see when they enter Pandora: The World of AVATAR at Disney’s Animal Kingdom in 2017. Today, an inside source has provided us our first look at some of the pins being developed for the attraction, revealing some interesting details about this project that have been shrouded in mystery.

ACE logo pin for Pandora: The World of AVATAR at Disney's Animal Kingdom

ACE logo pin for Pandora: The World of AVATAR at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

The ACE logo pin in fact confirms that ACE will play a huge role in the experience on the “planet”. ACE was first introduced to guests at the exhibit previewing the AVATAR themed land at the 2015 D23 Expo. The following video is a good introduction to the company:

Mystery pin collection for Pandora: The World of AVATAR at Disney's Animal Kingdom theme park

While we know we will be immersed in the story of AVATAR since many cast members working in the area will need to learn the fictional Na’vi language and culture, it also appears that Disney branding will not be clearly present on any of the merchandise packaging either. This will continue the illusion with guests that they are on Pandora and that ACE is actually their host for the experience, selling merchandise in their own gift stores on the planet. Cast members will reportedly be sporting ACE name tags as well, rather than Walt Disney World name tags that are worn in all other park areas.

While it may be us overthinking, some of the places and things showcased in the mystery pin set could very well be places and experiences for guests on Pandora:

  • Mo’ara – This is reportedly a location that will play a larger role in then AVATAR sequels, but is not mentioned in the first film nor any lore beyond that as of yet.
  • Navi Cultural Relations – Guests will get to meet the large Navi people in meet and greet type experiences (or even roaming around perhaps).
  • The Mountain Banshee Project – This will play a central roll in the Flight of Passage attraction where guests will ride aboard Banshees. Part of this project will allow humans to ride on these magnificent creatures, something usually only done by the Na’vi people.
  • The Drum Circle – This is a ceremony where Jake Sully became a member of the Na’Vi in the film. It is possible there will be an experience where guests can take part in a similar ceremony and become an honorary member of the people of Pandora.
  • The Pandora Cavern Tours – This could be its own walking experience, part of the queue for either of the two ride-through attractions in the land, or a scene in the Na’Vi River Journey ride.

While they may be just pins, they are honestly the first new piece of information on the project we have received in over a year. The existence of the final product also possibly means that the opening of the land isn’t very far away, perhaps 6 months or less at this point. Whatever the case may be, we will soon be getting more details at Destination D next month. Until then, let the speculation begin.
