The Dress Shop at Disney Springs Returns July 27th

The Dress Shop returns to Cherry Tree Lane in the Marketplace Co-Op at Disney Springs on July 27. First introduced in spring, this whimsical collection is filled with nostalgia that fans of Disney Parks will love. Most of the dresses sold out very quickly after the store’s opening, so this will be the first time all of the designs have been in stock since then.

Once The Dress Shop returns, guests will find the ten original dresses inspired by the Orange Bird, Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, the Haunted Mansion, and more. Disney is also introducing a new Cinderella-inspired dress that contains metallic embroidery.

Look for these items at Disney Springs starting July 27. Guests will also find The Dress Shop collection in Vault 28 at Downtown Disney District at Disneyland Resort.

Portobello Will Become Terralina Crafted Italian When It Re-Opens at Disney Springs Fall 2017

The former Portobello Country Italian Trattoria at Disney Springs will become Terralina Crafted Italian when it re-opens this Fall. James Beard Award-winning Chef Tony Mantuano returns from Portobello to curate the new menu, and Chef Justin Plank will be back to run the kitchen.

 width=

A multi-million- dollar makeover is transforming the space in The Landing on the shores of Lake Buena Vista. Inspired by the design and lifestyle of Italy’s Lake District, the new restaurant will be reminiscent of an Italian home, with an open kitchen, dining rooms with eclectic décor and a new veranda bar outside the main entrance.

 width=

Chef Mantuano’s authentic Italian cuisine (much of it infused with his signature olive oil imported directly from Italy) will include artisanal pizzas and fresh vegetable dishes fired up in a wood-burning oven. Two new signatures – mussels and a grilled pork chop – will be on the menu, along with favorites from Portobello such as the antipasti platter and signature pastas. “Focusing on the hearth of the kitchen dishes will embody the passion and flare of the flames,” said Mantuano.

“We are excited to have created Terralina Crafted Italian with a vision to deliver authentic food, hospitality and every last detail as part of a memorable guest experience,” said Andy Lansing, president and CEO of Levy Restaurants, who owns the restaurant.

Terralina will be open for lunch and dinner. An opening date has yet to be announced.

D23 Expo Rumors – A List of Every Announcement Expected for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts

The last month leading to the D23 Expo 2017 has been a crazy one, as there is a larger than usual list of expected announcements for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek to make on Saturday, July 15th at 3pm. Below, we cover what we expect to be announced. While not all of these will likely be “confirmed” come this weekend, they are highly likely to be.

Unlikely rumors that could see announcement on Saturday include the Star Wars Luxury Hotel, Zootopia at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the DVC wing of Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, and a massive expansion of Walt Disney Studios Paris, but the timing for these doesn’t seem right, whether they are going to happen or not.

Stay tuned for updates from the presentation when it begins at 3pm Pacific time today!

Characters in Flight at Disney Springs Changes Name to Reflect New Design

Since the characters were already removed from the exterior a few months back, Characters in Flight at Disney Springs will be changing its name effective this week.

 width=

The new name of the balloon will be Aerophile, named after the company who operates the attraction. The new Disney Springs maps already reflect this change.

Walt Disney World For College Students: Disney Springs Part 2: Shopping and Dining

Disney Springs has too many offerings to compact together into one article, so I split it into two. This time, I will be focusing on shopping and dining at the popular destination.

Like my first article, I will look at shopping and dining options best suited for the college-age crowd, in other words, relatively inexpensive (by Disney standards, though they may be expensive by other standards). I increased my list to 10 in celebration of WDWNT’s Tencennial Celebration – seven, yeah seven, dining options and three shopping destinations.

With that said, let’s see what Disney Springs has to offer.

Dining:

 width=

  1. The Daily Poutine: Located across from Volcom and Levi’s in the Marketplace, this counter-service eatery serves up a delicacy of Canadian culture, poutine, which consists of french fries covered in gravy and cheese curds. In addition to classic poutine, there are three additional varieties: Italian (fries, mozzarella and bolognese sauce), Latin (fried yucca, black beans, pulled pork, and queso fresco), and French (fries, mushroom cream sauce and gruyere cheese). Prices range from $8.49 for the classic, to $9.39 for the Latin and French. The one drawback I’ll mention is that they use steak fries that soak up the gravy and get soggy, but you’ll get the full flavor of the dish regardless. The classic is the way to go, in my opinion, and you can take it on-the-go, which makes The Daily Poutine stand out above other counter-service places.

 width=

  1. D-Luxe Burger: One of the more expensive food options on this list is D-Luxe Burger, located in the Town Center, adjacent to the Guest Services building. This Disney-owned and operated eatery serves up some of the best burgers on property, bar none. Along with seven burgers, including veggie and chicken types, D-Luxe Burger also offers an assortment of milkshakes and floats, priced at $7.50. Burgers range from $9.99 for the Classic Cheeseburger and the Veggie Burger, to $12.99 for the Southern Burger. One drawback is that fries are extra, $4.99 for a small order and $6.99 for a large order. The burgers are juicy and cooked to perfection, and the toppings are fresh. All entrees are made-to-order, which just adds to the experience and really makes D-Luxe Burger stand out.

 width=

  1. Blaze Pizza: What has become a staple in many college towns, Blaze Pizza has revolutionized the fast-food business with fast-food pizza. Not only do they make their pizzas quick, they are inexpensive, large personal pies that are really good. There is a Blaze Pizza right outside my college campus at University of Maryland, (go Terps!) and I’m always surprised by the size of the pies. At their Disney Springs location, in the Town Center right next to D-Luxe Burger, they offer a plain pie, a build-your-own pizza with unlimited topping, and several pre-designed specialty pizzas. Prices range from $7.25 for the plain pie, to $9.65 for the build-your-own and specialty pies. The pizzas are thin-crust style, but it doesn’t take away from the flavor one bit. In fact, the crust is superior to most Disney counter-service pizza. You won’t be disappointed with your pizza, I guarantee it.

 width=

  1. Earl of Sandwich: Located in the Marketplace adjacent to Once Upon A Toy, Earl of Sandwich offers a wide variety of sandwiches, wraps, salads, and soups at reasonable prices. The last time I ate there, I got an entire meal, with a sandwich, drink, and chips, for around $11, which compared to the rest of the Walt Disney World Resort, was an amazing price for a good meal. The sandwiches range from $6.99-$7.99, and the wraps and salads from $5.99-$7.99. Portions are fairly large, and options are endless, catering to a wide variety of guests. The phrase “bang for your buck” could not describe this place any better.

 width=

  1. Wolfgang Puck Express: Located in Marketplace connected to and behind the Disney’s Days of Christmas store, Wolfgang Puck Express is a counter-service/table-service hybrid concept that rivals any true table-service restaurant in Disney Springs. You order at a register, the chefs make your food, and waiters serve it to you, as well as helping out with drinks. Wolfgang Puck Express offers everything from sandwiches to pizzas to entrees of all kinds. All plates will cost you around $12-20, but with the service, it’s really worth the price. I suggest ordering the Cavatappi Chicken Alfredo or the Bacon-Wrapped Meatloaf, both very good dishes at $16 each. To make this experience even more intimate, there are tables right next to the kitchen, so you can pretend you’re at Victoria & Albert’s.

 width=

  1. Ghirardelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop: What has become a staple in the Marketplace since the late 1990s, Ghirardelli has delighted chocolate and sweet tooth fans alike with their signature creations and unique offerings. Not only do they have a chocolate shop with an assortment of Ghirardelli products, they also have an ice cream parlor, serving floats, milkshakes, sundaes, scoops and cones. A single scoop will cost you $4.75 and a double scoop will cost you $6.55. Waffle cones and toppings are extra. Sundaes range from $10-$14, and shakes & floats range from $6-$9. The ice cream is rich, and so is the chocolate. The dishes are well-prepared, and while the line is long, it’s well worth the wait.

 width=

  1. Coca-Cola Store & Rooftop Beverage Bar: Both a store and a dining offering, the Coca-Cola Store, located right near the new Planet Hollywood Observatory in the Town Center, offers an assortment of Coke merchandise and memorabilia. At the top, there is a rooftop bar, offering an assortment of Coke products from around the world. My personal favorite is the international tray, where you can sample 4 oz pours of 16 different international Coke products for $8, including the infamous Beverly drink from Italy, more commonly found at Club Cool in Epcot. The price is worth it, especially if you split the tray between friends and all sample the drinks.

Shopping:

 width=

  1. World of Disney: The flagship store of then-Downtown Disney opened in 1996, the first of its kind in the world. At 50,000 sq. ft., it’s also the largest World of Disney store in existence and one of the largest in Disney Springs. World of Disney has the largest assortment of Disney-themed merchandise on property. Clothing, pins, jewelry, plush, toys, hats, footwear, kitchenware, beach accessories, and the list goes on and on. Prices run the gamut depending on what you are looking for, but the World of Disney truly has something for every Disney fan.

 width=

  1. Uniqlo: Opened in 2016 with the rest of the Town Center, this Japanese fashion/casual clothing store offers unique options at very reasonable prices. The Disney Springs location, while having an assortment of normal Uniqlo products, also has Disney-branded shirts, most of which are around $15, which is a great deal compared to prices at most Disney shopping locations. While it is one of the newer stores in Disney Springs, it is a must-stop for anyone who is looking for great deals on high-quality clothing.

 width=

  1. Marketplace Co-Op: This store is not one store, but a collection of retail shops, where design and product concepts are being tested. There are six shops within the Co-Op: Twenty Eight & Main, Cherry Tree Lane, D-Tech on Demand, Disney Centerpiece, Disney TAG, and the WonderGround Gallery. From luggage accessories, to tech gear, to high fashion, the Marketplace Co-Op caters to all facets of the Disney traveler. I’m impartial to Twenty Eight & Main, which celebrates the past history of the Disney parks with an assortment of high-end shirts, hoodies, mugs, and even socks. One thing is for sure, you will find something interesting at the Co-Op.

Unpoming in part three of this series, we’ll continue to explore what there is to do outside the parks, looking next time at the Epcot Resort Area, specifically focusing on The Boardwalk.

Walt Disney World for College Students – Disney Springs Entertainment and Attractions

This new column will focus on a widely overlooked demographic in the Disney parks: college students. As a college student myself, I will be writing on behalf of my peers to find the best offerings for the college-age demographic in Walt Disney World. Compared to other age demographics that visit WDW, college students present a niche community that would much rather party in Miami than visit the Disney parks. Taking that into consideration, I will examine the resort complex from top to bottom, finding the best attractions, entertainment, restaurants, shopping and other things best suited to the college-age crowd.

In this, my first article, I will be examining the entertainment and attraction offerings at Disney Springs. The Springs present some of the best offerings for the college-age crowd anywhere in the Walt Disney World Resort. While some of these are closing soon, their future replacements will add on to the current list of entertainment options in the complex. I’m going to highlight seven (yeah, seven) different offerings ideal for the college-age crowd.

 width=

  1. La Nouba by Cirque du Soleil (Final Bow: December 31st, 2017): Arguably the most unique entertainment offering at the Springs, La Nouba has been dazzling audiences since its debut in 1997. The show has been performed over 8,500 times, creating millions of memories for those who attend. Located at the end of the West Side, La Nouba is housed in a custom-built, 1,671 seat theatre, the first of its kind for Cirque du Soleil. Described as a contemporary circus, the 90-minute show features everything from acrobats and aerialists, to trapeeze artists and break dancers. It is a spectacle for the eyes and the mind. La Nouba performs multiple times a week, so check https://www.cirquedusoleil.com/la-nouba for showtimes and ticket information, which differs by seating section. It is truly a must-see show, and while pricey, it is definitely designed for the more adult crowd, perfect for college students, especially small groups, and you have plenty of time to see it before it goes away forever on December 31st.

 width=

  1. House of Blues Music Hall: This is a perfect entertainment offering for any music-loving college student. Located on the West Side, near Cirque du Soliel and across from DisneyQuest, House of Blues has been entertaining millions of guests since the location opened in 1997. Bastille, Mayday Parade, Phoenix, and Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness were just a few of the most recent acts to come through in the past few months. The concert hall holds around 2,100 people, and for many, including myself, that creates an intimate feel. Concerts usually start around 7 or 8 pm, giving you much time to find a quick bite to eat before heading for a night of great music. For the latest concert and ticket information, visit houseofblues.com and click Orlando under the Change City tab towards the top left-hand corner of the page.

 width=

  1. DisneyQuest Interactive Theme Park (Closing July 3rd, 2017): Regardless of the fact that this five-story indoor theme park really hasn’t been updated since it opened in 1998, and the other fact that it will be closing forever in less than a month, DisneyQuest is still a fun place to spend a few hours out of the sun at. From classic video games, to interactive attractions, and everything in between, DisneyQuest has many offerings for everyone, even though some might not be functioning. The dark blue building is located across from the House of Blues and near the Cirque du Soliel venue. I’ve been here several times, and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself. I’m a sports fanatic, so playing the pop-a-shot basketball game and skeeball was great, especially when playing with friends since I’m quite competitive. They have racing games, 1st person shooter-style games, fighting games, classic joystick games, the list goes on and on. Plus, attractions like CyberSpace Mountain and the Mighty Ducks Pinball Slam still bring out the fun and competitive side in anyone. An adult ticket is $45 for the day, but prices might differ due to the imminent closing of the venue, so check the box office outside of the main entrance for prices. Remember, DisneyQuest is closing July 3rd.

 width=

  1. Splitsville Luxury Lanes: For those who couldn’t decipher what this location is by the name, Splitsville is a chain of luxury bowling lanes, combined with an unique dining experience. I will be focusing on the bowling aspect, which is self-explanatory for this article. Having the ability to go bowling in Walt Disney World is a cool experience in itself. This is located across from the Wolfgang Puck Grand Cafe and is facing AMC. Like most bowling alleys, they also have billiards tables for those who choose to play some pool after they hit up the lanes. Like most Disney offerings, bowling at Splitsville is a bit pricey, ranging from $17-$22 a person depending on the day of the week, but regardless of price, this is a great place for groups, and anyone who wants to have a night out at the lanes. Prices and additional information can be found at http://www.splitsvillelanes.com/location/orlando/.

 width=

  1. AMC Disney Springs 24: Located on the West Side, facing Splitsville and across from Bongos Cuban Cafe, AMC Disney Springs 24 brings the newest movies releases to you in a sleek and modern interior with rocker-style stadium seats. 3D movies are also offered. The theatre was just upgraded to an Enhanced Theater Experience, with a 20% larger screen from floor to ceiling, creating an immersive and truly unique entertainment experience. The AMC is perfect for college students who want to catch up on the latest releases in a larger-than-life setting. There is also the AMC Fork & Screen Dine-In Theatre, where you can grab a bite to eat and watch a film. Ticket prices vary depending on the time of day and the movies themselves, so check amctheatres.com for further information.

 width=

  1. Characters in Flight: One of the more unique entertainment offerings at the Springs, Characters in Flight takes guests up to 400 feet in the air for an 8-10 minute balloon ride, soaking in 360 degree views of Lake Buena Vista, the downtown Orlando area, and the rest of the Walt Disney World Resort. The balloon is located at the entrance of the West Side, next to the new Starbucks location. A ride will in the six ton balloon will cost you $20, but the views are second to none, especially for more dedicated Disney World fans who appreciate aerial views of Spaceship Earth, Cinderella Castle, and even the Tree of Life. The balloon can hold up to 29 guests, more than enough for you and a few friends to have an once-in-a-lifetime experience.

 width=

  1. Vintage Amphicar & Italian Water Taxi Tours: While very different from the rest of these other offerings, the amphicar and water taxi tours gives guests a different perspective of the Disney Springs complex from the middle of Lake Buena Vista. Guests also get a closer look at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, located just across the water. Located on the dock right next to The Boathouse restaurant in The Landing, the tours take place daily from 10 am-10 pm. This is definitely designed for small groups, 2-4 people at the most. From going on the boats between Port Orleans Riverside to the Marketplace, it’s really cool to see the Disney Springs skyline, with all the different storefronts and other offerings. The tours are much more intimate, which provides for a better experience. The tours are pricey, $125 for a guided tour, but split between a group of friends, the experience ends up being well worth it.

These are the just the tip of the iceberg for things to do around WDW, so remember that Walt Disney World is for everyone, no matter who you are.

Next week’s article will focus on shopping and dining around Disney Springs, so stay tuned.
