Disney Confirms Removal of AOTAS Hall of Fame at Hollywood Studios

As we have been speculating for several days, Disney has now confirmed the removal of the Academy of Television Art and Sciences Hall of Fame today.

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame Being Removed

The area, a part of the theme park since 1993, has been behind construction walls for a few days now. It will be replaced with a food and beverage offering.

Filming Schedule Released for 2016 Disney Parks Christmas Special, No Parade at Disney World This Year

What began as the Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade on ABC won’t even feature a parade at Walt Disney World in 2016.

The parade portion of the 2014 special, which wasn’t even called a parade…

Filming for the annual TV tradition will take place at Walt Disney World on November 9 -13 in all four Walt Disney World theme parks. Multiple specials will be filmed that will air on the Disney Channel and ABC in November and December, respectively.

The filming at Walt Disney World will be limited to stage performances and musical acts. All of the parade portions of the show will be filmed at the Disneyland Resort this year. Taping dates for the Disneyland portions have yet to be revealed at this time.

UPDATE: Walt Disney World Closes Theme Parks Early Today & All-Day Friday for Hurricane Matthew

Walt Disney Workd has now announced that all four of its theme parks and other resort areas will close to guests at 5pm tonight.

In addition, the Walt Disney World Resort will be closed on Friday, October 7th. This is only the 4th time in history the parks have been closed for an entire day.

The Walt Disney World Resort and its theme parks are expected to reopen on October 8th.

Here’s some official information:

Treehouse Villas and Bungalows unavailable:
With severe weather expected over the next few days, Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort and Disney’s Polynesian Bungalows will be unavailable beginning Thursday afternoon in an abundance of caution
The safety of our Guests and Cast is always our first priority. Guests staying in these select rooms will be offered alternate accommodations.
Any customary cancellation fees will be waived for early departures
As the Emergency Management Team continues to monitor Hurricane Matthew, the Walt Disney World Resort is taking the necessary steps to ensure the safety of our Guests and Cast
Members. Due to potential weather impacts in Central Florida, Walt Disney World Resort will be implementing the following operational changes:

Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground is closed now through Sunday. This includes all Thursday and Friday performances of Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue and Mickey’s Backyard BBQ

The Treehouse Villas at Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort and Disney’s Polynesian Bungalows will be unavailable beginning Thursday afternoon.

Spirit of Aloha dinner shows at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will be cancelled Thursday and Friday evenings

Select spa locations, including La Vida Health Club at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, Senses a Disney Spa at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and at Disney’s Saratoga
Springs Resort, and Ship Shape Massage, Salon and Fitness at Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, will be closed beginning Thursday at 12:00pm through Saturday evening.

ENTERTAINMENT, AMENITIES & OTHER OFFERINGS

Characters in Flight at Disney Springs is closed now through Sunday.

The Baseball Canada game scheduled for Thursday at 1:00pm at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex has been rescheduled for 10:00am the same day.

Select weekend events at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex have been canceled including the 2016 Disney Cross Country Classic and Baseball Canada’s Friday and Saturday
games/practices

UPDATE: Walt Disney World Theme Parks Will Open Earlier Than Originally Scheduled

Walt Disney World has just announced that their 4 theme parks will open earlier than originally scheduled at 8am on Saturday, October 8th. Animal Kingdom will open to resort guests at 7am for Extra Magic Hours.

The Walt Disney World theme parks all closed at 5pm on Thursday in preparation for Hurricane Matthew and remained closed all-day today, October 7th.

REVIEW: New Nightmare Before Christmas Cupcake at Hollywood Studios

Sunset Ranch Market at Disney’s Hollywood Studios started offering a new seasonal cupcake, so we of course had to have one.

It is a carrot cake cupcake with an orange-flavored frosting.

Orange and carrot flavors are not typically my thing, but this was good. Despite the appearance, it was a nice, light cake and icing that wouldn’t be one of the heavier dessert offerings you could order at the park. I would probably skip this for a carrot cake cookie, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t order this either.

This week, with Hurricane Matthew coming through, some of the tarps and such that would regularly obstruct the views through the walls and fences surrounding the Star Wars and Toy Story Land construction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios were temporarily removed. With those coverings gone, we got a nice clear view of exactly what is going on in the former Backlot area of the park, and we share that with you now in our latest video update of the ongoing expansion:

PHOTOS: Disney Confirms Expansion of Hollywood Studios Parking Lot

Last week, we reported about the possibility of a parking garage being added at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It appears we had the location wrong, but a parking structure may still be in the long-term plans for the park down the road. In the meantime, Disney has confirmed an expansion of the parking lot in some internal communications this week.

We also noticed that an entire mass of trees adjacent to the Hollywood Studios parking lot was removed just last week:

These photos were taken when driving in from the World Drive entrance of the park.

Behind this fence once stood hundreds of trees, all of which were removed in one day last week.

Currently, Disney is constructing a temporary conveyor structure across World Drive to shift soil across the road and into the park. Disney has stated that this is a multi-year project and they will be sharing more information on this project soon. Now, whether this simply means that the parking lot will grow or that a parking garage is coming remains to be seen, but we will keep you in the loop as best we can.

We do know that a new car entrance will be built somewhere on this site, as Disney revealed those plans some time ago.

Work continues on two massive themed lands as a bevy of modest options prepare to open in the not-to-distant future at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. PizzeRizzo is nearing completion, the Dr. Strange preview has finally opened, and something else is brewing at One Man’s Dream in our latest photo report.

Welcome to Hollywood

The projection towers for Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular are indeed being repainted as the blue tower is already completed.

The beige tower still awaits a new paint scheme. I’m not sure these make the towers look any better, but at least someone is trying.

Hollywood Goes Rogue

Rogue One merchandise can be found throughout the park at various locations.

A Rogue One poster was also installed at the entrance of Star Wars Launch Bay.

A bevy of new D-Tech on Demand phone cases are available with Rogue One designs at Launch Bay.

Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame

Walls are up at the Academy of Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame. Speculation is that this is being removed.

Doctor Stranger Things

While the Doctor Strange preview has opened, the rumored meet and greet has yet to materialize. Could this be a model of an upcoming project or something else?

Safe D Begins with Outlet Covers

Thankfully, someone realized that the Studio Store Coloring Station was dangerous, so outlet covers were installed.

The Writer’s Stop Closes

As we previously reported, The Writer’s stop is now permanently closed.
