On May 1st, 2014, Disney’s Hollywood Studios will mark its 25th anniversary with some special events in the park:

  • At 10 a.m., Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse will take the stage with Disney’s Hollywood Studios Vice President Dan Cockerell to start the celebration day, honoring some of the 25-year cast members during a short rededication ceremony.
  • A special motorcade — “Stars of the Studios” — will make its way down Hollywood Blvd. beginning at 7 p.m. and feature many of the famous characters showcased throughout the park. Mickey and Minnie will be joined by television and film stars including Captain Jack Sparrow, Darth Vader, Doc McStuffins, Wreck-It Ralph, Venellope, Sofia the First and more.
  • Following the motorcade, the area in front of the park’s Sorcerer Hat Stage will become a dance party before a fireworks show ends the day in grand fashion at 9:30 p.m. The pyrotechnics show, which will be high in the sky above the Sorcerer Mickey Hat, will pay tribute to 25 years of show business stories that have been told throughout the park.
  •  And finally, a taste-tempting treat — a 25th Anniversary Chocolate Nutella Cupcake — will be sold at many of the park’s quick service dining locations during the day.

As we posted last week, special merchandise to mark the occasion will also be available.

WDWNT will be there to cover all of the festivities for those who can’t make it (as well as Studios 25), so stay tuned!

The events hosted by WDW Celebrations are always a great complement to the official events hosted by Disney. Personally I must say the highlight of all the WDW Celebrations events I have attended in the past has been getting to celebrate with fellow fans. You will get to spend time with old friend as well as make new friends!

So don’t miss out on this opportunity to celebrate, sign up before it’s too late! Tickets are available for purchase until Sunday April 29, 2014. RUMOR: Walt Disney: One Man’’s Dream and Voyage of the Little Mermaid to Close in September np

With the D23 Expo just two weeks away, the announcement of the overhaul of Disney’s Hollywood Studios seems to be imminent. While we expect more concrete details at that point, rumor has it that Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream and Voyage of the Little Mermaid will close at the end of September 2015.

The exhibits and displays from One Man’s Dream should move to another location at Walt Disney World, meanwhile, guests looking to find the Little Mermaid can swim over to New Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom.

These closures are simply rumors at this point, but it is highly likely that both attractions will close at the end of Disney’s fiscal year on September 27th, 2015.

Phil Holmes No Longer VP of Magic Kingdom, Management Shaking Up As “Studios” Expands np

40at40_5

In a surprising move, current Disney’s Hollywood Studios vice president Dan Cockerell will trade places with long-time Magic Kingdom vice president Phil Holmes at some point in the next month. Phil Holmes has been the VP at Magic Kingdom for 14 years, starting his tenure in 2001. Cockerell has had his position at Hollywood Studios since 2011, previously being assigned vice president of Epcot. Disney announced they are moving Melissa Valiquette from director of operations at the Magic Kingdom to vice president of Epcot a few weeks ago as well.

Since Holmes has experience running the world’s most visited theme park, his leadership will be called upon to guide Hollywood Studios through what is expected to be a period of overhaul and expansion, including new Star Wars attractions.

VIDEO: The Princess and the Frog, FROZEN, and Tangled Added to Fantasmic! at Walt Disney World

Seemingly out of nowhere, the first change to the projection portion of Fantasmic! at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in the show’s 17 year history happened this week. Clips from Tangled, the Princess and the Frog, and of course, Frozen were added to the “bubble montage” portion of the show:

While unexpected now, rumors are swirling that sweeping changes to the Fantasmic! show at WDW are coming in 2016 and the show may even go dark for a few months to install more major upgrades and bring in some new scenes. Since Frozen Summer Fun is not expected to return next year, rumor has it that a Frozen segment will replace the Pocahontas portion of Fantasmic! at that time. These changes are expected to coincide with the overhaul of the park that may or may not be announced at the 2015 D23 Expo.

PHOTO: Bill Cosby Bust Quietly Removed from Hollywood Studios

The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is looking a little empty today…

The bust celebrating Bill Cosby was removed overnight amid allegations and things to which Cosby admitted over the past few months (and more notably over the last 24 hours). It is worth nothing that the empty spot is not where the bust was located, but rather the bust from this spot was moved into Cosby’s spot as Disney found it more favorable to just have an empty pedestal towards the back of the area.

BREAKING: Star Wars Weekends Expands to Five Weekends & Adds Nightly Fireworks Show in 2014

Just announced today by Walt Disney World, Star Wars Weekends 2014 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will be expanding to 5 weekends and adding a nightly fireworks show…

SWW144-poster

The 5 weekends are:

  • Weekend I: May 16 – 18, 2014
  • Weekend II: May 23 – 25, 2014
  • Weekend III: May 30 – June 1, 2014
  • Weekend IV: June 6 – 8, 2014
  • Weekend V: June 13 – 15, 2014

James Arnold Taylor will also be returning to host the event.

The nighttime fireworks show is expected to be the same as the show from May the 4th last year, which you can see in this video:

The fireworks show will be presented every night of the event.

Star Wars Weekends Discontinues Popular Hyperspace Hoopla Show

Ask anyone what their favorite part of Star Wars Weekends is at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and the answer is always the same: Hyperspace Hoopla.

Well, that will be no more…

1264-X2

Apparently, the reason for adding the new nighttime fireworks show to the event is so Disney can axe the long-running Hyperspace Hoopla show where Star Wars characters perform in comedy bits and dancing to popular music. According to rumors, the show does not fit the vision that the company has for the Star Wars franchise. In other words, Bob Iger lacks the sense of humor of George Lucas now that Disney actually owns Star Wars.

The cutting of the show may also be for budgetary reasons, but based on the crowds the show has drawn every year, that would be doubtful. Disney has not made a public statement about the show’s cancellation yet, but the news has been broken to cast members.

Please enjoy our video of last year’s show, which in my opinion was the best of the many versions of the Hoopla that have been presented:

So, what do you think? Will you still go to Star Wars Weekends with no Hyperspace Hoopla?
