Downtown Disney to Get Runner’s Resource with Addition of Fit2Run Store

With half- and full-marathons within the Disney Parks, athletes and Disney fans can combine their two passions. These athletes will be pleased to hear that Fit2Run, a Runner’s Superstore, will be coming to Downtown Disney next month.

Within this Superstore, Fit2Run salespeople can help you find your perfect fit in athletic trainers.  Fit2Run will also offer a complimentary video-taped gait analysis and an iStep barometric scanning, assisting each guest with finding their ideal footwear.

Guests can also try out the athletic trainers on Fit2Run’s indoor track, to make sure that they get the perfect fit, just like a Glass Slipper.

At the Downtown Disney location, Fit2Run will also offer first releases on many shoes, with some special products available only at this location.

Co-owners Bill Robinson and his son, Parks, both runners themselves, are planning on attending some of their in-store events, clinics or new product introductions. Father and son started the company in 2006 and are very excited about the Grand Opening of Fit2Run at Downtown Disney.

Fit2Run is set to open in November at Downtown Disney’s West Side, in the Splitsville building, across from House of Blues.

Are you a Disney Runner? Will you check out Downtown Disney’s Fit2Run?

Jungle Cruise Getting “Jingle Cruise” Makeover for Holidays at Walt Disney World & Disneyland

Disney announced today that the Jungle Cruise attraction will receive its first-ever holiday makeover this year. Beginning in early November, Jungle Cruise at both Disneyland park and the Magic Kingdom will temporarily transform into “Jingle Cruise” for the holiday season!

JBT298481SMALL

In this new seasonal storyline of the attraction, the Skippers have grown homesick for the holidays, so they’ve added holiday cheer to the Jungle Cruise queue and boathouse with decorations that have been mailed to them from home (plus a few they’ve created themselves). The Skippers have also added a slew of new jokes to their tours that are the perfect way to get guests in the holiday spirit. Additionally, Jungle Cruise boats have been renamed with the holidays in mind, and if guests listen carefully, they may hear a holiday-themed radio broadcast playing in the background.

The layover will debut in early-November on both coasts!

So, what do you think? Is this a good idea?

REVIEW: The Villas at the Grand Floridian Open as Latest Disney Vacation Club Resort

The Villas at the Grand Floridian opened on Wednesday, October 23rd and we were lucky enough to spend the first night staying in a one bedroom villa at the new resort.

First off, I need to say there is probably not a bigger fan of the Grand Floridian than I. I’ve stayed at the GF most trips during my childhood and have always loved the laid back atmosphere and the bright white design of the buildings. I probably fell in love with the hotel because I lived in New York and all of this was just so different from what I was used to at home.

When they announced the Villas at the Grand Floridian, I was worried about what the hotel would lose in charm by adding another large building in a particularly empty spot along the beach. Losing most of the beach and the seemingly abandoned yet serene pathway between the Wedding Pavilion and the Grand Floridian took a while to get used to, however, once the new pathway along the shore next to Villas opened a few weeks ago, I was very happy with the end result.

There are two paths leading from the Villas to the main building, and both are a fairly quick 3-4 minute walk. The pathway looks really long in photos, but the Villas are deciveingly close to the rest of the resort. If you have small children, you’ll love the proximity to the Alice in Wonderland water play area and the smaller of the two resort pools.

The lobby is not very big, but being a DVC resort, there was really no need for it to be. The adorable fountain featuring the  penguins from Mary Poppins serves as a wonderful centerpiece and the tall chandeliers are gorgeous.

We have video of the lobby, fountain, and the exterior of the hotel to share with you:

As you may recall, we toured the model rooms of the hotel a few months back. Even though we had seen what the rooms would look like, walking into them and seeing the Seven Seas Lagoon outside the window was astonishing. That being said, lake views are not rare and the Grand Floridian, but the proximity to the Polynesian and the Wedding Pavilion provided some interesting new vantages.

The room itself was wonderful. The amenities are probably more than you really need on vacation, but are welcome none-the-less. The beds were comfortable, although the small bed inside the TV stand is really only suitable for children or shorter guests.

There was plenty of kitchen space offered and the fridge was absolutely massive. If you are staying here for more than a week and going to stock up on food and drinks, the fridge will easily hold whatever you could possibly want to store in it. I would still only fill half of this thing with the full contents of our fridge at home! Also, the kitchen has my favorite Disney decoration in the rooms hanging right above the table…

The bathroom was spacious and very nice as well. We did use the television hidden in the bathroom mirror while taking a bath and it was really enjoyable (as were the massage jets in the bath tub). The shower was ridiculous… I felt crazy using a shower quite that large. I know the room sleeps a lot of people, but I don’t foresee putting everyone in the shower at once…

Here is a video tour of the one bedroom villa we stayed in:

In review, I think this hotel serves a great purpose. If you are looking for luxury, using Disney Vacation Club points, and have a family big enough to need this much room, this hotel is for you. The building isn’t huge, so I don’t think it is unfair to think this will typically be booked up despite the price point. As always with the Grand Floridian, you can’t beat the location. The Magic Kingdom is just one monorail stop away and there is convenient boat transportation available in the marina. The Villas at the Grand Floridian takes the flagship Walt Disney World Resort hotel and adds larger rooms with kitchens. That’s all. The rooms are gorgeous, the views on the lake side are fantastic, and if you are a DVC member, this is always going to be a better value than staying in a normal Grand Floridian room. It serves a purpose, not one that I or any non-Vacation Club member has, but serves one regardless. If you get the chance and it fits your needs, stay here. You’ll have a grand-old time…

New Soda Flavors Coming, Some Old Favorites Leaving Club Cool at Epcot

Club_Cool_3

Is there a certain soda at Club Cool that you absolutely love? Well, you may want to go and get one last taste (of what’s left) before new flavors appear next Wednesday October 30, 2013.  A couple of “favorites” will be sticking around though…here’s a look at the new line up:

Fanta Pineapple: With more than 90 distinct flavors available in more than 180 countries, Fanta made its European debut in the 1940’s and was introduced to the USA in 1960. Fanta Pineapple is caffeine-free and features a sweet pineapple taste.

VegitaBeta: Originally launched in Japan in 1992, VegitaBeta is a non-carbonated beverage with apricot and passion fruit flavors and is rich in beta-carotene that contributes to its unique orange color. (Currently Available)

Fanta (Melon Frosty): This is the number one soft drink of Thailand. With a fun melon flavor, this carbonated beverage is beloved in Thailand’s sunny, tropical climate.

Bibo: Originally created in 1998, Bibo is a fruit flavored line of juice drinks popular in South Africa. The brand features fun characters such as Johnny Orange, Taka Strawberry, and Paolo Peach.

Sparberry: A raspberry flavored cream soda, Sparberry launched in Africa in 1955. It is exclusively available in several countries in southeast Africa.

Guarana Kuat: This is a guarana berry flavored soft drink first launched in Brazil in 1997. The word guarana comes from the Guarani word guna, which translates to ‘fruit like the eyes of the people.”

Inca Kola: Known as “The Taste of Peru,” Inca Kola has an unusually sweet fruity flavor that many compare to the taste of liquid bubblegum, The name refers to the Quechua words for king and queen.

Beverly (Staying): With its bitter flavor, it is a popular non-alcoholic aperitif that is a traditional part of Italian refreshment culture. (Currently Available)

These flavors are only available in the United States at Epcot and World of Coca-Cola attractions in Atlanta and Las Vegas. Club Cool will continue toe “Magical Moment” of recognizing the first tasting/testers of the day.

Going away from Club Cool will be Smart Watermelon, Kinley Lemon, Fanta Colita, Lift Apple, Mezzo Mix, and Krest Ginger Ale. Unfortunately, most of these are already out of stock and are not going to be replenished in time for you to say goodbye… THEY ARE GONE FOREVER.

So, what do you think? Did you lose a favorite drink (R.I.P. Smart Watermelon)? Excited that Beverly is staying?
