WDW News Today Turns 6 Years Old! – July 8th, 2013

WDWNT6th

Every year this Network grows older, we reflect upon the accomplishments, impact, and incredible growth of WDWNT. It has now been 6 years since WDW News Today launched on July 8th, 2007. What was founded on the website you see before you and built on the back of daily news and information about Walt Disney World is now a vibrant collection of websites, podcasts, online radio stations, & more. The last year in particular has been a memorable one, as we finally condensed all of our amazing content into one website at WDWNT.com. We even set new records in traffic for our websites and podcasts this year, as well as brought you the best live coverage of many big events.

In the world of Disney, our sites have covered huge stories such as the re-opening of Test Track at Epcot, the opening of Splitsville at Downtown Disney, and the unveiling of the first pieces of Magic Kingdom’s New Fantasyland. We even celebrated the 30th anniversary of Epcot along with WDWCelebrations and have continued to present a fascinating series of podcast segments celebrating three decades of the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow.

Tonight, we will continue our annual tradition of presenting a special anniversary edition of WDWNT Live! show on WDWNTunes.com. The show begins at 8PM EST and will last until 11PM EST. During this show, we will be making several major announcements about the future of WDWNT, one of which will forever change the face of our organization forever. We will also be presenting a special edition of WDWNT’s Around the Hub and will be bringing back an old, retired segment from the WDW News Today Podcast for one night only, among a number of surprises. We hope you will join us for that tonight as it is always a very fun event!

On a personal note, the 6 year journey of this website, the podcast, and the entire family of shows and websites that make up WDWNT has been the greatest experience of my life. I’d like to thank the incredible volunteer staff of over 50 people that have worked tirelessly to get us where we are today and the loyal readers & listeners who are to thank for our great success. This journey finally led me to Orlando and the dream life of living near Walt Disney World this year, for which I am eternally grateful to the entity I created. I am very proud of what we have accomplished in the last 6 years and amazed at where it has taken me today. I’m looking forward to many more years of “Bridging the Gaps Between You and the Disney World”.

WDWNT: The Magazine – To Our Readers

When issue 19 of the magazine was released, the Letter from the Editor included a note that the magazine staff was taking a short break, and would use the downtime to consider improvements to the magazine. During that time, the magazine team considered many different options.

Now the break is over, and I’m thrilled to announce that we are significantly changing the way we publish our content. Instead of releasing a monthly PDF version of the magazine, we are going to fully integrate our content into the main wdwnewstoday.com website. Our magazine articles will be published as featured content of the site. The plan is to publish a couple of articles each weekend. The articles will be highlighted as magazine articles to stand apart from the regular news posts on the site. I’ll try to answer some questions that may come up, but please let us know if you have any other questions.

Why are we making this change?

There are a couple of reasons, most notably:

  • This will allow us to significantly reduce the publication time of articles, getting them to our readers much quicker, thus allowing for more timely and relevant articles.
  • This allows better searching of the magazine content for our readers.
  • Easier for our readers to access the magazine content. This will allow readers to go to a single site for Disney news and analysis, rather than going to multiple sites.

When does this start?

Right now! With the publication of this post, we will begin regular posting of magazine articles to the wdwnewstoday.com website. As noted above, we will be publishing new content on a weekly basis. So check back often.

So is this the end of the print version of WDWNT: The Magazine?

As a monthly print magazine, yes. However, we are working on some ideas that will allow us to publish a quarterly or semi-annual print version that contains a review of articles published during the previous period. In addition, the first 19 issues will continue to be available.

Isn’t this basically just turning the magazine into a blog?

While we are using blog technology, we strongly believe that what differentiates us from a traditional blog is going to be our content. Our publishing model might be changing, but our content and our editorial voice is not going to be changing. We are going to continue to focus on longer articles with creative topics that will appeal to Disney fans. I am extremely proud of the fantastic content that the magazine team has produced over 19 issues, and I am confident that we will continue that going forward.

I hope that this post provides an overview of the new direction for WDWNT: The Magazine. I am very excited about where we are going, and I am certain that we will continue to bring you the most educational and most entertaining content available to Disney fans anywhere.

As always, we want to hear from you. Please email us any questions or suggestions you may have to wdwntthemagazine@wdwnt.com.

DLNT Turns Five This Friday!!!

This Friday February 8th, Disneyland News Today will be celebrating its fifth anniversary as a website and podcast. To celebrate, we are holding a live show on WDWNTunes.com starting at 8:00 PM PST. We will be holding some of our signature segments including The Disneyland Compendium. We will also have live discussions with the chat so be sure to stop b WDWNTunes.com.

Welcome to the NEW WDW News Today, Now with Disneyland!

logo23

Over the last five-and-a-half years, WDW News Today has grown from a single site into an entire network of Disney-inspired websites and podcasts. Over that time, we have had plenty of successes and a few failures. Over the last year or so, we have discussed the concept of bringing together all of the websites and podcasts run by WDWNT under one roof, and integrating them all into one website. I am proud to say that our technical team has made that dream a reality with the new WDWNewsToday.com.

The first obvious change in our operations will be the closure of Disneyland News Today, WDWNTunes, and WDWNT: The Magazine. All of the services offered by these sites will continue, but they will do so on WDW News Today.com. For the past few weeks, WDWNT visitors have been able to read the latest articles from WDWNT: The Magazine, now no longer in a digital publication form. By putting these articles into more of a blog format, we can more timely release articles and allow you an easier way to read the same great content as before.

Our online radio station, WDWNTunes, is now integrated right into WDW News Today. This will allow you to listen to great Disney Parks music and fantastic original programming such as “See Ya’ Real Late” with Tom Corless, Around the Hub, and Your Ear to the World while you read all of our great content. The chat and all functions of the original WDWNTunes can now be found by clicking the “listen” tab under “WDWNTunes” in the navigation bar.

The largest change is the closure of Disneyland News Today, WDWNT’s west-coast counterpart. While we may be saying goodbye to the Disneyland News Today name after 5 years, the same great coverage you have come to expect from DLNT is now available right here along with all the Walt Disney World news and information you love. Disneyland Resort news is now featured side-by-side with Walt Disney World news and you can pick which resort you want to read about by using the “Park News” tab in the navigation bar. Don’t worry, the very popular Disneyland News Today Podcast isn’t going anywhere in this overhaul. You can still download the podcast just as before, through this site or on iTunes. The Disneyland News Today twitter account will also continue to operate for the foreseeable future.

What was the WDWNT Network is now WDW News Today. We hope you enjoy our new site and our easier to follow layout. If you have any questions, comments or concerns, you can email us at wdwnewstoday@gmail.com, or message us on facebook or twitter. We look forward to starting this incredible new chapter with you, as we continue “bridging the gaps between you and the Disney world”!

Disneyland News Today Turns 5 Years Old! – February 8th, 2013

Today marks 5 years since the launch of Disneyland News Today. DLNT was formed on February 8th, 2008, just as many projects began in the huge expansion of Disney California Adventure. Our mission was to follow that expansion from start to finish, tackling what was arguably the most exciting project in Disney history. From the opening of Toy Story Midway Mania, to the debut of World of Color, to the first side-by-side race through Radiator Springs, we covered it all. We were taken to new heights aboard Mickey’s Fun Wheel, took a swing in a Silly Symphony, and played with our PIXAR pals.

In that time, we also saw the original Disney Park grow, evolve, and change in many ways. We were there for the return of the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough and Captain EO. Our adventures continued on Star Tours, Main Street got Soundsational, and we even grabbed the first bite at the Jolly Holiday Bakery. Best of all, there is more excitement to come. Soon we’ll meet our favorite princesses and find a magical map with Mickey.

It has been a journey as unpredictable as an adventure through the original Magic Kingdom over the last 5 years, and we are happy you were there to take that journey with u.. However, as Walt Disney once said, “We’re just getting started!”

WDW News Today Celebrates 5 Years Online, Right Where It All Began

The Avengers may be burning up the box office, but there is another Summer blockbuster on the way:

A little overdramatic? Sure, but if you’re looking for a few days of fun this Summer, the New York City area can offer it…

It was 5 years ago here in New York that it all began for WDW News Today. What began as a small blog dedicated to covering any and all news at the Walt Disney World Resort is now a network of popular websites and podcasts that are viewed by thousands of Disney fans each and every day. Before we move the entire operation to Orlando later this year, we plan to go out in style and celebrate the improbable 5th anniversary of the WDWNT Network right where it got started.

Over 4 days, we are planning excursions to some local amusement parks, to New York City to experience Newsies on Broadway during its limited engagement and the new Disney Store in Times Square, and to Flushing Meadows to see where it all began for the Florida Project, the site of the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair. Here’s the schedule:

Thursday, July 12 (Optional Add-on Day):
Six Flags Great Adventure Group Outing (Park tickets required)

Friday, July 13:
10:00 AM – General Reception, Disney Pin & Vinylmation Trading
5:00 PM – Rainforest Cafe Group Dinner (Tickets required)
8:00 PM – Live recording of WDW News Today Podcast Episode 250

Saturday, July 14:
9:00 AM – Group trip to Times Square – Disney Store
2:00 PM – Newsies on Broadway (Tickets required)
11:00 PM – Live video recording of “See Ya Real Late with Tom Corless” talk show

Sunday, July 15:
8:00 AM – WDWNT: The Game Shows (Win prizes!)
1:00 PM – History Walk at site of 1964-65 World’s Fair
3:30 PM – Group trip to Luna Park, Coney Island

The base of operations for the weekend’s events will be the Hampton Inn in Somerset, NJ. All of the live programming and games away from the excursions will be held in the convention space in the hotel. We also have special hotel rates available when booking with Janis from Travel Dreams at 856-768-2511 or jltraveldreams@cs.com. Rooms with King or 2 Doubles are $79.00 a night and Suites are available for $90.00.

You do not need to book a room to attend any of the events, but you do need to register for the event. Registration is now open at WDWNT.com and only cost a nominal fee (this fee is sued to cover event credentials and other necessary items for your enjoyment at the event).

Space for Newsies on Broadway at the group ticket price is limited, so we advise that you act fast. Space is also limited for the Rainforest Cafe group meal and it is going fast. If you know you are attending, please act quickly. Tickets for both of these are available as add-ons during the registration process. Park tickets for Six Flags Great Adventure at the group price are not limited, but there is a time limit on this offer. This is a great deal as all tickets include free parking and the Wild Safari.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at wdwnewstoday@gmail.com. We hope to see you at the event!

WDWNT’s Annual Tradition Is Bigger Than Ever with 30 Hour Live Show to Benefit Toys for Tots!

The holiday season is once again upon us and as usual, it’s a time where we should think about those who are less fortunate than we are and try to make a difference in their lives. Over 60 years ago, Walt Disney became one of the original sponsors of the Toys for Tots foundation, which ensures that every underprivileged child receives a toy during the holiday season. Walt and his animators personally designed the original Toys for Tots train logo that is still used today and the first poster created for Toys for Tots. In this spirit, WDW News Today, the WDWNT Network, and our many friends and partners are putting on a 30-hour live broadcast to raise money for Toys for Tots. That’s right, in honor of Epcot’s 30th anniversary, we are expanding from 24 to 30 hours of constant broadcasting!

We hope you will join us beginning at 6PM ET on November 23, 2012 when the broadcast begins and will help us by making a donation to this great cause. The broadcast is taking place at WDWNTunes.com stating at 6PM ET on the 23rd and running until 12AM ET on November 25th.
Throughout the 30 hours we will be presenting special segments, programs, and content in hopes of breaking last year’s donation total of $3000. Here is a list of scheduled events:

11/23 10PM EST – The WDW News Today Podcast presents our signature segment, Back to the Future covering the complete history of The Living Seas/Seas with Nemo and Friends
11/24 11AM EST – WDWNT: The Pyramid game show for prizes
11/24 1PM EST – Live chat with Ron Schneider, author of “From Dreamer to Dreamfinder”
11/24 3PM EST – WDWNT: The Match Game game show for prizes
11/24 6PM EST – The Disneyland News Today Podcast counts down the top 10 Disneyland attractions ever
11/24 9PM EST – Live recording of WDWNTunes Around the Hub
11/24 11PM EST – Live new episode of “See Ya’ Real Late” with Tom Corless late-night talk show

We will be on the air for the entire 30 hours and even when there is nothing scheduled we will be chatting and interacting with you via the live chat. If the past three years have taught us anything, it is that you can expect the unexpected and you really won’t want to miss a minute of the action.

Donations for Toys for Tots will be accepted through the always safe and secure FirstGiving. You can donate directly through them at toys.wdwnt.com.

We thank you for taking the time out of your busy holiday weekend and hope you will help us make a difference for the 4th year in a row. We are so happy to use the blessings we have to make a difference in the world, and I know we can do it again with your help. We look forward to seeing you starting tomorrow night!

Welcome Emily Weasley As New Lead Reporter For Disneyland News Today

We have been aware over the past few months that news posting here on DLNT has slowed considerably. This is completely my fault as I have been increasingly busy in my personal life and this site kept getting shoved down on my priority list. This is why we announced a few weeks ago that I am stepping down as lead reporter of Disneyland News Today and began searching for the perfect individual to continue bringing you the Ideals, Dreams, and Hard Facts of the Disneyland Resort daily here on disneylandnewstoday.com. I would like to formally welcome Emily Weasley to Disneyland News Today as our new Lead Reporter. She will be handling the daily posting on the website bringing you news from the Disneyland Resort as well as posting our photo reports from the parks. I am not leaving the network entirely as I will be focusing on hosting and producing The Disneyland News Today Podcast. I am handing the website off in high hopes that it will soon become your number one resource for Disneyland Resort news and information.
