VIDEO: Alice in Wonderland Recieves High-Tech Upgrades, Other Fantasyland Dark Rides Next?

Alice

Thanks to OSHA, we were forced to stare at some temporary tarps and railings at the Alice in Wonderland attraction at Disneyland for a few years. Finally, earlier this year, the attraction closed for a refurbishment that would repair the outdoor portion of the ride to meet legal requirements and make it look visually appealing to guests. During this time, several high-tech projection-based additions were made to the attraction to give it some new life. The ride recently re-opened to guests, allowing them to take in the Disneyland classic with a whole new sparkle:

This isn’t the first time this has happened to one of Disneyland’s classic dark rides, some similar projection-based modifications were made to Snow White’s Scary Adventures a few years ago. Rumor has it that Peter Pan’s Flight, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, and Pinocchio’s Daring Journey will also be getting similar updates for Disneyland’s 60th anniversary next year. These changes could be announced on Thursday, Disneyland’s 59th birthday, where the park is set to announce all of the festivities planned for the 60th anniversary celebration.

Stay tuned for more information.

“Alice in Wonderland” Water-Play Area Opens at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort

WDWNT Reporter Adam Roth took a short trip over to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa to see the progress on many construction projects, including the completion of the new children’s water-play area themed to Alice in Wonderland. Let’s take a look:

Looks cute

Very well done

I have to admit I wasn’t crazy about the idea at first, but it’s hard not to like this

Cry Me an Alice

Today we finally get a sneak peak at the Thomas Scott designed Alice LE set that includes a 9″ Crying Alice and 3 Jr figures that will be released on April 13.

It is limited to 2500 figures and will retail for $74.95. I think the proportions for Alice are perfect on the 9″ figure. Everything seems to fit much better here than on the Animation 1 3″ design. Even though that 3″ was one of my favorites, this one just knocks it out of the park. Here, we also get another very detailed Jr human figure. Alice, as with Snow, the Dwarfs and Aurora, looks wonderful on the small canvas.

I like the price too. 75 bucks keeps this one relatively priced with previous releases. We were all a bit worried after some other price increases. Does this LE set make it into your collection? What are your thoughts on the design? For more on Alice LE sets, check out our explained page.

Updated Calendar Info

Disney has updated a ton of their information on releases and some contradict previous posts from last week. We collected all the updates in this one post and also made the updates to our calendar.

April 13th
On this day, at both DLR and WDW, the Robots 2, 9″ Crying Alice LE (LE 2500, $74.95) and Haunted Mansion Pocket Watch (LE 750, $175) will all still come out. The update is a wristband distribution at Disneyland only. From the Disney website: “Wristbands for the limited edition Vinylmation will be distributed at D-Street in the Downtown Disney District at 7:00 a.m. Wristbands will be available at the location until 1:00 p.m. or while supplies last. We kindly ask that Guests do not line up for wristband distribution prior to 6:00 a.m. The queue for wristbands will begin behind the Rainforest Cafe in the Downtown Disney. Also of note, is Snow White Jr will NOT release this week as previously planned.

April 20th
The Alice Flowers LE set will now NOT be released this week. However, Thomas Scott will still be at an artist signing at D-Street Orlando from 5p-7p. According to the blog, he signing is for “LE Alice figures.” At this point however, only the 12 figure set, Cheshire Cat combo, and the previous week’s Crying Alice 9/Jr will be available.

Also on the 20th, at both DLR and WDW, the Snow White Jr Series 6 ($9.95 each) will be released and the Disneyland Paris 20th anniversary four figures will finally be available stateside. This French set includes the 3″ Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy all sold separately for $14.95.

April 27th
This week will then see the release of both the Alice LE Flowers 4 figure set (LE 2000, $44.95) and Alice LE Walrus and Carpenter 9″/3″combo (LE 1500, $74.95)
