From Variety:

Ferdia Shaw has been tapped to play the title role in Disney’s “Artemis Fowl,” which is being directed by Kenneth Branagh.

Josh Gad has also signed on to star, joining Judi Dench, who had previously been announced. Lara McDonnell has been cast in the role of Captain Holly Short, the elf hero, and Nonso Anozie will play Butler, Artemis Fowl’s formidable bodyguard.

Written by Eoin Colfer, the children’s books follow the brilliant and cunning 12-year-old eponymous criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl II, whose plot to extort gold from the secret Fairy People puts him directly in the crosshairs of some of the most dangerous creatures on earth. Over the course of the book series, Fowl becomes an antihero rather than a full-fledged villain, often working together with the fairies to stop a slew of treacherous megalomaniacs.

All Clara (Mackenzie Foy) wants is a key – a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box that holds a priceless gift from her late mother. A golden thread, presented to her at godfather Drosselmeyer’s (Morgan Freeman) annual holiday party, leads her to the coveted key—which promptly disappears into a strange and mysterious parallel world. It’s there that Clara encounters a soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight), a gang of mice and the regents who preside over three Realms: Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers and Land of Sweets. Clara and Phillip must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), to retrieve Clara’s key and hopefully return harmony to the unstable world. Starring Keira Knightley as the Sugar Plum Fairy and featuring a special performance by Misty Copeland, Disney’s new holiday feature film “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms” is directed by Lasse Hallström and inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s classic tale. In theaters on Nov. 2, 2018.

“Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” May Be Out Of Theaters Now, But Will Be On TV Next Week

 width=

That didn’t take long! Looks like “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure’ has found a new home. “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” will make it’s television debut this Thursday at 8PM on ABC.

Just yesterday, “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” was removed as the animated short before all theatrical showings of “Coco”. There had been rumors of complaints that the 22 minute length of the short was just too long for some that were there to just see the main feature, “Coco”. Disney’s official response was “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” always meant to be a limited engagement in theaters and that there was no issue.

But there is some good news for Olaf fans.

From ABC Action News:

“Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” is coming straight to your living room. The featurette is making its broadcast television debut Thursday, December 14 at 8 p.m. on ABC.

The special is a part of ABC’s “25 Days of Christmas” festivities.

“Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” just completed a limited theatrical run in front of Disney Pixar’s hit feature “Coco.”

Following the special, you can catch Disney Animation’s Emmy Award-winning holiday special “Prep & Landing” from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. on ABC.

So what do you think? Did disgruntle audiences cause the demise of “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure” in theaters or did Disney always have plans to premier the animated short on the small screen as part of “ABC’s 25 Days Of Christmas”?

The Gang Is All Here In First Look at Incredibles From “The Incredibles 2”

width=Entertainment Weekly has given us our first look at Pixar’s first family of superheroes as they appear in “The Incredibles 2”. Looks like not much time has passed at all, in fact, it’s supposed to take place right after the end of the first movie where they first encounter the Underminer.

Below is a comparison of the last time we saw the Parr family in “The Incredibles” and the first image of them together for “The Incredibles 2”. This could be the family all suited up to take on the Underminer….but the stroller makes me wonder. Seems to be a bit of an improvement in the character designs from 2004, but nothing major. I’m sure that although Pixar will remain faithful to the original CGI animation, we can also expect to see them take advantage of today’s advancements in CGI animation.

“Beauty And The Beast” To Be Re-Released in New York And Los Angeles One-Week Engagement Beginning December 1st

 width=

GLOBAL BOX OFFICE HIT “BEAUTY AND THE BEAST” TO BE RERELEASED IN THEATERS IN NEW YORK AND LOS ANGELES FOR EXCLUSIVE ONE-WEEK ENGAGEMENT BEGINNING DECEMBER 1

Fans of Disney’s live-action adaptation “Beauty and the Beast” will be able to view the stunning, cinematic event celebrating one of the most beloved tales ever told once again when the film is rereleased on December 1 at the AMC Century City in Los Angeles and AMC Empire 25 in New York.

The film, which has grossed more than $1 billion worldwide at the box office, will screen at the two theaters for an exclusive one-week engagement. Members of AMPAS, BAFTA, ACE, ADG, ASC, CAS, DGA, HFPA, MPEG, MPSE, PGA, WGA, CDG and VES will be admitted with a guest to screenings at both theaters with valid membership card. The film was released domestically on March 16 of this year and quickly became the highest grossing film domestically and internationally, and the biggest live-action movie musical of all time.

In his review of the film, A.O. Scott from THE NEW YORK TIMES said the film, “revels in joy and enchantment.  Its classicism feels unforced and fresh, its romance neither winks nor panders.  I almost didn’t recognize the flavor: I think the name for it is joy.”

Mick La Salle from THE SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE said, “’Beauty and the Beast’ has the feeling of old-fashioned Hollywood grandeur. It’s a beautiful movie, both in look and spirit, one of the joys of 2017” and Brian Truitt from USA TODAY said, “Rousing new ‘Beauty and the Beast’ is even better than the original.”

Directed by Bill Condon and based on the 1991 animated film, “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a Beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart of the true Prince within. The film stars: Emma Watson as Belle; Dan Stevens as the Beast; Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome, but shallow villager who woos Belle; Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle’s father; Josh Gad as LeFou, Gaston’s long-suffering aide-de-camp; Ewan McGregor as Lumière, the candelabra; Stanley Tucci as Maestro Cadenza, the harpsichord; Audra McDonald as Madame de Garderobe, the wardrobe; Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, the feather duster; Hattie Morahan as the enchantress; with Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, the mantel clock; and Emma Thompson as the teapot, Mrs. Potts.

“Beauty and the Beast” is written by Stephen Chbosky and Evan Spiliotopoulos and produced by Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman, p.g.a. and Todd Lieberman, p.g.a. with Jeffrey Silver, Thomas Schumacher and Don Hahn serving as executive producers. Alan Menken, who won two Academy Awards® (Best Original Score and Best Song) for the animated film, provides the score, which includes new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and Howard Ashman, as well as three new songs written by Menken and Tim Rice.
