Darkwing Duck’s Disney Afternoon Sequel Gets a Release Date

The follow up to the popular Darkwing Wing Duck combo of Darkwing and Gosalyn was revealed to be Nega Duck and Bushroot. They will be released on September 20 both online and at D-Streets.

It is really great to see the villains portrayed in this series and Maria did a wonderful job at capturing the style of both these popular characters.

Spotlight On: Celeste’s Disney Afternoon Villains Series 1

We have followed Celeste’s work for a long time now, and she is debuting a brand new custom series this weekend that we wanted to take a closer look at. Celeste sent us a few words about her latest creations.

“Growing up as a kid of the 90’s I personally have always been a huge fan of The Disney Afternoon. Especially villains and creating a counterpart set was an idea I wanted to do since the release of the very first afternoon set by Disney.”

“The Villains of the Afternoon series, features some of the most iconic Disney Afternoon villains ranging from Gummi Bears to Talespin. The set includes a total of 16 figures with 1 mystery chaser. For the set I wanted to incorporate a wide cast of characters and personalities including some I thought who deserved their own vinyl. At first it was a bit difficult to choose who would be included in the set since there are so many great characters out there to choose from but ultimately I wanted a diverse set fans might enjoy.”

The set will be available for purchase this Saturday July 27 at 8pm PST at her online store. (price TBD) http://celestescustomarttoys.bigcartel.com/products

A Goofy Find Online

The story of the Disney Afternoon sets gets more weird all the time. This morning fans woke up to some Goof Troop Disney Afternoon sets sitting available at DisneyStore.com. As of this post, they are marked as Sold Out.

How a warehouse worker stumbled upon a few more of these wildly popular LE 1000 sets is beyond me, but it adds another page to the Disney Afternoon sets interesting history. Were you lucky enough to snag one? If you can have a shot, however brief the window, at purchasing any other previously released Disney Afternoon set online, what would it be?

ZoMG: Darkwing Release at DLR

Wow. As far as Vinylmation release mornings go I would have to say, in my years of Vinylmation experience this was insane!!

I went to this release morning, or night I should say, around 11:30pm. My boyfriend said I should get there early just because this release seemed so popular! I agreed and we made it down to the downtown Disney parking lot. To my surprise at 11:45 the night BEFORE the release (well 15 minutes before haha) there were 6 cars already parked in line to get inside!!

Wow! I couldn’t believe it! Thank goodness we ended up getting there when we did! Slowly people starting pulling up behind us in line and forming different rows. The lines went as far back down the street past the Disneyland hotel!

Because so many people showed up for this release around 4:00am security guards starting letting us know that they were going to let us in the parking lot early. So basically time to turn on your engines!!! Everyone had a quick panic including myself!

They raised bars and all the cars starting speeding through the parking lot to get a good spot!! Thank goodness my boyfriend has long legs he was able to run and get a spot in line!! I swear by the time they let our cars in to park, I think Darkwing had already reached at least 200 people in line!!

After this they organized our line into groups to make the walking over to D-Street process a bit easier! We sat there for awhile… some trading, some sleeping, some reading and chatting! We had a great time in line. It was a bit chilly so thank goodness I had some nice friends to share blankets with us! I even saw some familiar faces of cast members who work at D-Street! So exciting to see them getting into it too!!

Finally, around 7am, wristbands were distributed. And before we knew it, at 7:50 (yes 10 minutes early shh!) we were let inside to buy our Vinylmation and then head home to get some sleep!!

Today was a very eventful day! Now I am on my way to the Vinylmation trading night!! See you guys there!!

Darkwing Release at WDW and DLR

The Disney Afternoon Vinylmation releases have been very eventful. From lines being moved, to online order screw ups to near altercations… it is clear that a generation of Disney collectors love their childhood cartoons. Today, Darkwing Duck released at WDW and DLR.

We arrived at D-Street Orlando 4am and where about 10th in line. People were lined up in the new designated spot which is next to the handicapped spaces in the parking lot in front of AMC theater. The line extends down the curb of the parking lot. This was the best release line to date. By now, everyone has gotten to know each other. I believe, even more so than the collectibles themselves, Vinylmation has become a community of friends. We all have a great time and enjoy seeing each other at every release date and trading event. I for one have made some great friends along the way. This morning, we were even prepared with games! We played some fantastic games of Farkle and Phase 10 that made the 7 hour line fly by. At 8am, Disney escorted the orderly line to the front of D-Street. At the 10:30 open, they let us in in small groups.

Meanwhile, over at Disneyland’s D-Street…

AutoStitch sent us this panoramic picture of a pre-sunrise line at DLR. It’s always a bit more frantic over on the west coast. Read Zoe’s Disneyland Darkwing Release report here. Crazy times over there! and Zoe will be coming along with a Disneyland Darkwing release report soon. In the meantime, here is a look at today’s coveted Vinylmation.

This LE 1000 Chris Chapman designed set looks amazing. Chris captured DW’s look and stuck it on a vinyl.

The hat was expertly designed and looks great on Darkwing. It of course is removable and can be used in Combo Contest #3… don’t worry, it’s coming soon.

Along side Darkwing is Gosalyn Mallard with her pigtails and #1 tee shirt.

A few fun things inside D-Street Orlando:

The 3″ Winnie the Pooh sold out at the Florida Project, but some Mickey and Dumbo 9/3 combos were left over. They retail for $74.95.

Some 9″ Florida Project Empress Lilly figures were there as well. They have a $49.95 price tag. The Pin Traders Kiosk on the other side of Downtown also had a few Florida Project pin sets left over. Including some of those absolute drop dead amazing MK land themed box sets.

An Ear Hat sale has also been ongoing the past couple weeks at D-Street. 25% off while supplies last! Milk, Donuts, Color Bars, Paint Splatter and Creatures are all available.

Doug, 9″ Park 6 Now Online

Update: Noon- The Doug set is now sold out. According to @VMKingdom, they were gone at 3:45 AM. So they were on sale for about 25 minutes. I hope more people got them this time because of the limits!

Did you get one??

The update was a little late, almost 3:20 AM before it arrived, but thanks to a tweet by @Vinylchaser, we all started to purchase our Dougs.

Interesting note: I was only limited to purchasing up to 2 of these. So hopefully these will stay around for a while.

For those who want to reach the $75 free shipping, you can also order one of the two 9″ Park 6 figures that came out today. Animal Kingdom Crate and Davy Crockett.

What do you think of this release?
