Release Day: Friday, August 3, 2012

Today Park 10, the Disneyland Paris themed set releases at both stateside D-Streets.

Does this set appeal to collectors in the US? I love the designs even though I have never been to DLP. It is also fun to have another Park set out just months after the last one. Check out Park 10 explained for more info.

Release day was not without surprises. Remember that Urban 8 online exclusive Monster and Archaeologist? It finally released today for $74.95. It is an LE 1500. Wow, a bit high on the edition size there. Best bet would be to wait for this one to be part of a 2 for $50 deal.

The LE 1000 Urban 8 Toilet Paper and Kid combo also released online. This one of course had previously been available at D-Streets before moving down I-4 to the outlets for about $20.

The Japan Geisha Minnie also released today. This figure is the last installment in the “Magic Around the World” releases at select US Disney Stores and will retail for $9.95. Interestingly enough, we finally (from a random comment on the Disney Parks Blog) know where these are actually getting released. Only the New York Times Square, SF Stockton St., Chicago Michigan Ave and Burbank, CA stores are getting these releases.

SDCC So Tasty Update

The Playwright wrote into us because he just received his SDCC So Tasty Vinylmation in the mail from the Disney Store Online.

I got my whole set of 8 comic con “exclusives” in the mail today.  As per your request on the podcast, here is a picture of the front and back of the vinyl.

It does have the comic con sticker and nowhere does it say it’s limited edition of any kind.

Surprise and Expected Friday Releases

We knew of a few releases today, but we also had a few surprises on the DisneyStore.com this morning (thanks Brad for the info!).

6 of the NCAA teams are for sale online for $14.95: FSU, Ohio State, Penn State, UCLA, Florida, USC. They were supposed to release online and in select park locations on 2/10. Find all the details about NCAA teams here.

Similar story here, the first wave of 8 MLB teams are for sale online. They were also not supposed to be available until next Friday. Check out MLB explained for all the details.

Now for what we knew about… Tapestry of Nations will be available at the D-Streets and select EPCOT locations.

The NFL Teams figures went up for sale online last Friday, this week they hit the stores. Check out NFL explained for details on what figures will be available where.

A Goofy Find Online

The story of the Disney Afternoon sets gets more weird all the time. This morning fans woke up to some Goof Troop Disney Afternoon sets sitting available at DisneyStore.com. As of this post, they are marked as Sold Out.

How a warehouse worker stumbled upon a few more of these wildly popular LE 1000 sets is beyond me, but it adds another page to the Disney Afternoon sets interesting history. Were you lucky enough to snag one? If you can have a shot, however brief the window, at purchasing any other previously released Disney Afternoon set online, what would it be?

A LOVEly Surprise

Update: I have to laugh. As I was typing this update, I went back to the Vinylmation Blog to verify what I had just read… and it changed! They did announce that this vinyl will show up in the Florida and California parks. They originally typed January 22, but then crossed it out and they say “a future date.” Stay tuned.

The Disney Store Online surprised us all with a Valentines Day treat today.

For the first time, Disney has released a special open window Valentines Day 3″ Vinylmation. Right now, it is only available online for $16.95. However, according this description, it is a Disney “Parks” item.

So I would think we may see this in the park stores soon. Here is a closer look at the figure.

The front looks like a top down view into a box of chocolates. You can see the assorted shapes and flavors. What is your favorite taste from a box of chocolates?

The back says “I Love You” and is all red with a golden bow on the body. Overall it is a nice simple design that can be displayed either way. It is a fun representation of Valentines Day. Do you hope your special someone gives you one of these on that special day? And the big question, what would you rather have… this Vinylmation or an actual box of chocolates?

Fife & Drum Set Sale

This Memorial Day weekend only, you can get 25% off the Park 7 Fife & Drum set featuring Mickey, Donald and Goofy.

This is at the Disney Store Online, just use the promo code PARK25. This set retails for $44.95 and is well worth it. The design is phenomenal. This set, however, does suffer from an extremely high LE of 5000.

Sweet New Pinocchio Kidada

Surprise! The Disney Store Online today released the 9″/Jr Kidada we have been waiting for since last year’s D23.

An LE 500, this set comes with a colorful 9″ featuring Pinocchio having fun at Pleasure Island, a Junior Jiminy Cricket and a pin. It retails for $74.95 and is available online as well as the North Michigan Avenue Disney Store in Chicago, Times Square Disney Store in Manhattan and the Walt Disney Studio Store in Burbank.

The back of the 9″ is delicious with donkey Pinocchio inside Monstro’s mouth.

The Junior Jiminy has a great facial expression as he is watching Pinocchio. The pin reads “Official Conscience, 18KT”. A nice touch.

The box, as with all Kidada’s, is simply brilliant. A colorful design with quotes and such that ads as much to the figure as the design itself.

The back of the box reinvents the way 9″s SHOULD be packaged! A window in the back gives collector’s a look at the whole design. And the way it’s done, with the curtain, is fantastic. I have never purchased a Kidada yet, but this one I hit “add to cart” as soon as it loaded onto the screen. One of the best overall designs I have ever seen on a 9″ Vinylmation, toss in the Jr, pin and packaging… and this is one of the instant standouts of 2012.
