Evilos Presents Boba Fett with Card

We saw Evilos tweet some pictures of his latest creation so we asked him about the project and his love of Star Wars.

“A lot of my work gravitates towards many things I enjoyed as a kid, Star Wars being one of them. Mickey in Carbonite was one of my early customs made before Star Wars Series One was even released by Disney. When I was a kid, I played with Star Wars figures all the time. Like most kids from my generation our youth revolved around toys, circa 1980’s. So being a Star Wars collector I’ve had a few of these card backs from Comic Con and thought to myself hey why not repackage these vinylmation into a vintage style looking toy. The challenge for me was finding custom made bubbles and cutting out a seamless spots for the ears to pop out of, so not to damage the overall look of the vinylmation. My early carded Star Wars customs, I needed to cut the ears down so they would fit. This drew most of the criticism from that series so I’m happy I was able to figure out how to keep the ears and still make it look like these were produced many years ago.
I most likely will be producing more of these and have some for trade. I would urge collectors who can make it to come out to the trading night at Disneyland Feb.16th to see these in person and maybe trade up for one. I have no real plans to sell these but I do have the Boba Fett up for auction at the moment, so If you want something unique I would ask fans to check it out:

Thank you. Evilos”

Evilos Designs New Mansion Custom

When the new Brick pattern 9″ Create Your Own Vinylmation was released by Disney in November, it caused many to scratch their heads. But not custom artist Evilos. I remember a tweet he sent out stating he just ran out and picked a few up because he had some good ideas for their use. He was not kidding! Evilos just released a YouTube video of his new Haunted Mansion custom and it makes perfect use of the brick pattern to pay an amazing tribute to the legendary attraction.

Spotlight on: Evilos’ Wonderland Diorama

In honor of the rumor of Alice at D23, here’s another look at Evilos’ wonderful Wonderland Diorama. The detail is amazing, and I really like the 3 dimensional improvement to Alice. He smock looks so good.
This Cheshire Cat is amazing!

Vinylmation For a Cause

Update: The vinyl sold for $500.00!!! Congrats to Don, Evilos, and everyone who bid!

Christopher Avalos (aka Evilos) has donated a custom 9 inch Winnie the Pooh Vinylmation to help raise funds for Charlie Greenman, a little boy who will be 11 months old tomorrow. About 12 hours after Charlie was born he began having seizures and an MRI revealed that he had suffered an in-utero stroke affecting the right side of his brain. Charlie will be having surgery on August 1, 2011 and to help with the cost of the surgery, as well as future treatments, a few friends of Charlie’s parents have started an auction on facebook. Please go to the page Help Charlie Heal and bid on this item as well as other wonderful items donated by friends and family. The auction will end tonight, July 3rd, at 11:59pm CST. To read more about Charlie visit http://www.charliesfund.blogspot.com/

“I’m thankful I could use my artistic abilities to help Charlie in this time of need, It shows you that Vinylmation can be used to help others also, not just for collecting or turning a profit. Last year I donated some customs to the Vinylmation & Pin Expo in Florida which helped raise $1200 for a local childrens charity. I have two small children of my own, so I can understand how painful this must be to have a child that is sick or hurt. As an artist, I would like my own legacy to be how many positive things ive done for others using my talents, I think thats my true calling for being here and I thank everyone for the support”

Evil Kermit (The post you’ve been waiting for!)

This is the contest post. If you don’t know about it, check out Evilos’ Evil Giveaway Rules. You have til midnight EST to leave a comment to be entered into the contest. Good luck!

First, we wanted to thank Evilos again. Check out the cool Evil Kermit above. We are giving this one away, but check out his webpage at Evilos.com. There are lots of cool figures to check out there. Second, we wanted to say how cool and how nice a guy he is (as you’ll see in the letter he sent us). Always one to bring a positive attitude to this community, I think we should all try to be a little more like him when we can. Here’s the message he asked us to add to this post.

“I want to thank Nick and MC for allowing me to give something away to the dedicated listeners, its my pleasure to help promote their awesome podcast, the site and Vinylmation in general. Anyone that knows me personally knows I’m very passionate about vinylmation and the Disney brand.

I can’t believe its almost been two years since I first made a custom using the 3″ Blank I purchased at Disneyland. That custom the was Evil Kermit which brings this contest full circle once again.

Vinylmation has provided us artists with such an iconic canvas to work with, Mickey Mouse. Pushing the limits of what a vinyl collectible can do, it challenges artists to think outside the box and truly be creative.

I hope that over the years I have inspired both young and old to pick up a blank and just be creative. There is an inner artist in all of us, I think we were all put here to create things and inspire others, rather than destroy each other.

I also want to thank Donald Ferro and Steven Miller who, behind the scenes, put a lot time and love into this product we all enjoy. They have gone out of their way to make us the fans feel excited about a Disney product again. Also to the Artists, Thomas Scott, Eric Caszatt, Lin Shih, Chris Chapmen and the army of extremely talented people that are pushing the envelope and coming up with amazing designs everyday. They are the life-force behind vinylmation and I salute them.

Lastly I would love to thank my beautiful wife who has put up with my creative madness and has been really supportive, even though there seems to be a million Mickeys all over the house. Also my two children, Alexander and Isabella who are my reason for living..

Thank you all.” -Christopher (Evilos)

Thanks again Evilos for everything you’ve brought to the vinylmation community.

Evilos’ Evil Giveaway Rules

Thanks to custom artist Evilos, we have the great opportunity to hold a contest to give away a free Evilos Evil Kermit custom.

*Not actual figure. You’ll see that
Tomorrow in the contest post.

Coinciding with the highly anticipated Muppets 2 Vinylmation series, on Friday, April 15th, we will be holding a comment contest; the winner of which will be mailed a free special Evil Kermit custom from Evilos himself. All anyone has to do is find the post tomorrow with the picture of the giveaway prize (it will be really obvious, we’ll tweet about it several times) and make a comment on that page between the time the page appears and midnight EST. Then we will take all the entries made, and randomly select one winner who will then be mailed the Evil Kermit.

All decisions are final. One entry per person, per day. Official staff of Destination Vinylmation are not eligible (sorry Zoe and Ryan). Because of mail fees only people residing in the United States can win. Winner will be announced on this weekend’s podcast.

Please be cool and try to make your comment worthwhile 🙂 We can’t wait to show you this piece and start this contest.

In fact, those of you who listen to the podcast regularly will know how to get a second chance at winning this contest. Consult the latest podcast for more info.
