Jr. 8 Goofy’s Candy Co. Explained

Jr. 8 Goofy’s Candy Co. Explained

Release Date: April 12 (Facebook Store), April 19 (D-Streets)
$9.95
Maria Clapsis and Thomas Scott
Designs are based on Disney’s consumable line.

Update 04/18/13 The Disney Merchandise Blog posted the two chasers from the Goofy’s Candy Co. Jr. 8 series.

One is the official Goofy’s Candy Co. logo in the head with Goofy’s signature laugh “Gawrsh!” written all over the body. The other chaser is Goofy, looking goofy and apparently sweating.

Today we got a look at the rest of the non chasers from this line. Here are the Disney turnarounds for them.

I think they are doing a good job with the clear parts of this set. I know there are a lot of similar ones, but I think they work well for the set (unless they could have found a way to actually stick a stick inside one).

I love how if you are to search for “Gummy Bears Vinylmation” in the future, this is what you’ll get. MC thinks this is probably the best one from this set.

Interesting note on this one. When we saw it at Mickey’s Circus it has green on some of the stars. I wonder if that will be a variant, or just an early design?

Here are the pictures from Mickey’s Circus back in September of 2012.

Wild West Explained

Wild West
Release Date: April 20
Disney Stores
Artist Signing with Gerald Mendez and Enrique Pita at the Sun Coast Plaza Mall in Costa Meza, CA on April 20 from 10am-1pm.

Update 04/02/13 We added photos from Disney of the set.

Update 04/01/13 We added photos from Vinylmation Exchange of the remaining 6 figures off the side of the tray.

Update 03/29/13 Zoe sent in some up close photos of each figure. This is where the Disney Store shines!!! Back to doing a Disney Character-centric set. We never questioned the talent of the DS artists, just the choice of designs they produce. They have a command of the Mickey platform when drawing characters on the canvas. We just want them to be DISNEY! You may not purchase this particular set, but this is what the average VM collector wants to see from these artists. The colors are wonderful. The use of ears with the various western back drops are perfect. The biggest plus is that they changed them up. And the accessories? Among the best we have ever seen. Just take a look…

Pluto

First of all, they used the Furry Friends/Whiskers Tales paws! This may be my favorite Pluto. I love he just took a bite out of the bad guy’s pants. The “V” star belt is a wonderful touch.

Mickey

He is the sheriff. Disney Store makes the most amazing hats. The chewing on the wheat is a perfect touch. And I love that the artist used an old school Mickey.

Minnie Mouse

The bonnet is another great accessory by the Disney Store. She has the old school like, just like Mickey. Disney Store does the characters so well… some of the best mouse faces we have seen in Vinylmation.

Donald

Donald as an Indian is just spectacular. The expression the DS artists give to his face in all his figures are the perfect way to draw him. It is very hard to make the duck bill work, but they always do. The feather head dress! What can I say? I can not wait to have this one in hand. Then, in the ears, you can see the wild west landscape with cactus and teepees.

Daisy

As much as I’m not a Daisy fan, the design here is a lot of fun. She looks like a performer in a wild west saloon. The clothing and feather in ear are great. Love the star background as well.

Clarabelle

Great addition of a classic Disney cow into this western series.

Horace

Another one with Furry Friends paws. Great choice of the classic Disney horse into this set.

Goofy

Crazy eyes.

Huey, Dewy and Louie

It’s about time we get Donald’s nephews into a set. Three 3″ figures here. Wonderfully themed as Indians to fit in with Donald.

Mystery Chaser

Zoe was walking through the South Coast Plaza Mall in California today and happened upon this poster:

Looks like the Wild West series may be a smaller open window series similar to Disney Tunes. But a close look at the fine print mentions “purchase of a tray”, so I am not sure at this time. The series seems to be set for a Disney Store release on April 20th with an artist signing with Gerald Mendez and Enrique Pita from 10a-1pm at the South Coast Plaza Mall. We do expect the nation wide release over the same weekend.

The Disney Park Blog has released a photo of 11 of the figures for the upcoming Return of the Jedi themed Star Wars Series 3 Vinylmation set plus 2 Limited Edition figures. A continued use of ears to show back grounds, such as the stars in space and the trees on Endor. I think it is an well chosen lineup out of the film.

Myths and Legends Explained

Myths and Legends
Release Date: January 7, 2013
Disney Stores and Online
$9.95

Myths and Legends is a mystery set of 12 designed by the Disney Store Artists. Once again, they have decided to bring artist cards back, but to utilize them in a very unique way.

Big Foot
Quincy Sutton

The larger than normal feet is another shining example of innovation at the Disney Store. It is also just another reason why this new platform was developed.

Cyclops
Jim Valeri

Great job with the little details making him look down right nasty… which in this case is good.

Gargoyle
Enrique Pita

A seemingly simple idea, made to look brilliant with beautiful wings and some character in the facial expression.

Gnome
Nacho Rodriguez

I like the sculpted hat. I will say if you put this one against Caley Hick’s Gnome from Urban 8, I will take the Urban Gnome. But this guy looks like he is up to trouble.

Chupacabra
Nacho Rodriguez

No on really knows what this guy looks like, so imagination was endless for the artist here.

Medusa
Gerald Mendez

Nice job with the tangled web of snakes. I’m scared to look this one in the eyes.

Mermaid
Quincy Sutton

For some reason, the bright colors don’t allow this one to fit into the set in my opinion. I think in this case, she needed to have her face framed more by here hair.

Ogre
Enrique Pita

Big nose! I like how Disney Store artists often let the characters look to the side.

Pan with pipes
Quincy Sutton

Once again, Disney Store Artists rise above and beyond with accessories.

Troll
Nacho Rodriguez

This guy looks down right grumpy… and I love it. Great touch with the mushrooms drawn in the ears.

Yeti
Jim Valeri

Yeti is catching up to Cheshire Cat as one of the most used characters outside the Fab 5. His mouth is a little odd in my opinion, but I love the drool.

Mystery Chaser

Urban Redux 1 Explained

Urban Redux Explained
Release Date: March 22, 2013
D-Streets and Disney Stores
$12.95
Artist Signing on Friday, March 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at D Street in Orlando. Disney Design Group artists, Maria Clapsis, Billy Davis, Caley Hicks, Monty Maldovan and Thomas Scott will there.

Update 04/01/13 Here are all 24 Super Mystery Chasers:

Update 03/24/13 If someone has pulled a “Super Mystery Chaser” they have not shared it publicly at this point. However, custom artist Josh Edwards has posted the following info:

“24 SUPER MYSTERY CHASERS(4 each from six artists) Super Mystery Chasers are blank vinylmation figurines that are personally hand-drawn by each Vinylmation designer. Each is a one of kind creation. Soooooo draw your own conclusions. To me it doesn’t sound like a full blown custom but something quick that was drawn on the figure.”

Until one is revealed, we still have to call this a rumor, but the info is said to come directly off a Cast Member set info sheet.

Update 03/22/13 Urban Redux was released today. We have a photo from Enrique Pita of his Space Monkey Chaser:

And a photo from Michael Bimonte on Vinylmation Exchange of some of the pre-packaged hand signed (not stamped on) figures:

Update 03/19/13 The Disney Parks Blog has revealed more secrets to the Redux series. They included artist signed figs, super chasers and the reveal of another variant!

“Each tray will contain at least one of each of the five known designs shown on the packaging. The tray will also contain at least one of the following three figures – a “mystery” chaser, a variant figure or a super mystery chaser.  We also added fun surprises to Urban Redux, like a small number of figures hand signed by the artists that we mixed into the trays.” – Thomas Scott
You can see the Red Ninja and previously unknown Purple Monster variants above. I also love the reveal that artist signed figures are mixed into the trays. Great addition! I guess since I’m not a numbers person, I never looked at the ratios the way Thomas Scott explained above.  So the fun part about buying a tray is you will get one of each of the 5 basic figures, and then you will get something very special as well. This reminds me personally of cases of baseball cards where special game used, autographed and chaser cards are seeded by ratio in the packs. I am really liking this.

We also now have a photo of that 8 box tray. We have yet to see the Super Mystery Chaser revealed to our knowledge. Lastly, the blog posted a nice photo of all three Lucky Cat combo topper variants.

Update 03/16/13 We know have photos of the Lucky Cat Combos, Variant, and what seems to be a chaser. They were all revealed at last night’s DLR trade night. All the photos in this update are from Vinylmation World.

I found a great article on the Luck Cats at a site called Vinylmation Park. Read it here. The author explains what they are and why they make a great variant.
We also have a photo of a Red Ninja variant to the Black Ninja on the box.

Also on preview, was what appears to be one of the Mystery Chasers… a Space Monkey. As noted in a comment by Mystery Man, this figure has two different faces. A regular monkey on the front and a space monkey on the back (back of figure is shown in photo below).

Update 03/14/13 Set mistakenly released at DHS… some secrets of the series are revealed. Some of the highlights:

  • Each figure is seeded by ratio
  • A case is 8 blind boxes
  • Chaser is not one per case
  • The Lucky Cat is the Combo Topper. There are three variations: Red, Black and White

Check out this post for some discussion and updates of the surprises.

Urban Redux is the reboot of the Urban series. We have been told this series will be a little different. We do know it is a 6 figure mystery box set as opposed to the standard 12. And we have this quote from the Disney Collections Blog “This new series will be filled with lots of new surprises.” To give an idea, here is the product poster we saw at Mickey’s Circus:

From Mickey’s Circus we do know that the Lucky Cat is part of a combo and that Enrique Pita designed the chaser.

Park 12 Explained

Park 12 Explained
Release Date: June 7, 2013 (online), June 14, 2013 (Parks)
Retail Price: $12.95

Update 06/16/13 A Blue Monorail Variant has surfaced. This photo was posted by Doug Robertson on Vinylmation Exchange.

Update 05/03/13 Disney released turnaround photos of 11 of the figures. We can now assume the chaser is Darla from Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage since we saw 12 figures previewed at Disneyland a few months back and that was the one not previewed online.

Also, we now have a look at the Park 12 combo topper:

It is a Director Mickey. Not as cool as the Disney Studio Store version, but does have a megaphone. What do you think this represents? Disney’s Hollywood Studios? Buena Vista Street? Something else entirely?

Update 03/15/13 We received our first look at Park 12 from a preview at Disneyland’s Trade Night. Thank you to Trade Street USA for the original photos and info. There were 12 figures previewed, so one of the below may be the chaser or combo topper. Disneyland fans should be happy… except for the DCA themed Park 11, there may be more DLR themed figures in this set than any other. 5 that are specific to the west coast resort and 2 shared.

Dynamite Goat
Big Thunder Mountain, Disneyland
Artist: Sarah Hall

A fan favorite and one of the Imagineer’s all-time classic gags. A wonderful and rendition and sure to be a popular figure. (We still need a Park Starz version)

photo from disboards.com

Darla
(Mystery Chaser?)
Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, Disneyland
Artist: Ron Cohee

Darla is found swimming in the water holding a plastic bag with a doomed fish in it.

photo from orbit tumblr blog

Dinosaur
Animal Kingdom
Artist: Billy Davis

This is a wonderful depiction of a great dark ride. The Carnotaurus roars in the head while the CTX Time Rover drives through on the body. Great detail. BTW, I wouldn’t mind seeing a Dr. Seeker vinyl someday.

photo from Disney

Disneyland Monorail
Disneyland Resort
Artist: Dan Howard

It’s about time right? We have 5 WDW Monorails. I think the monorails look very sleek on the newer Mickey platform.

Monkey
Festival of the Lion King, Animal Kingdom
Artist: Maria Clapsis

Widely regarded as one of the finest shows at WDW. It certainly is a beautiful show, and the trampoline bouncing performers in monkey costumes really steal the show. I like the decision to do a “monkey face” as opposed to human.

Goofy’s Gas
Toontown, Disneyland
Artist: Ron Cohee

A funny gag where fish swim in the tank of the retro gas pumps.

Mariachi Cobre
Mexico Pavilion, Epcot World Showcase
Artist: John Henselmeier

More than this figure alone, it’s the addition of John Henselmeier to the Vinylmation team that has me excited for what is to come. This is a great figure, but knowing John’s love of Epcot, I can’t wait to see what is on the horizon (pun intended).

photo from tucson sentinel

Pooh’s Hunny Hunt
Disneyland
Artist: Billy Davis

The body is the ride vehicle with a Heffalump from the attraction in the head.

Spitting Camel
Aladdin’s Magic Carpets, Magic Kingdom
Artist: Thomas Scott

The camels spit water at guests walking by and riding the Magic Carpets in Adventureland.

photo from DailyDisneyPhotos.com

Vulture
Splash Mountain, WDW/DLR
Artist: Casey Jones

Finally! A Splash figure. The Vutures are the last warning before you ascend the last part of the mountain. This figure represents them well, but to nitpick, I’d love an extension neck.

photo from allears.net

Santa
Winter Sumerland Mini Golf, Walt Disney World
Artist: Thomas Scott

Two 18 hole mini golf courses where you can choose the winter or summer path. Santa on a summer vacation is a focal point of the theme.

Teddi Barra
Country Bear Jamboree, Walt Disney World
Artist: Maria Clapsis

Teddi Barra descends from the ceiling on a giant swing to serenade the crowd.

Perfect use of the entire canvas and clear parts.

Mr. Incredible
The Incredibles (2004)

Simple yet perfect. Nice use of the ears just for color. His face is positioned perfectly.

Filmore
Cars (2006)

Lighting and Matter were on the Mickey platform in a 2-pack… the rest of the gang, including Filmore made it onto the Vinylmation Monorails. It looks like they will not hesitate giving us more Cars in the Pixar 3″ series.

Remy
Ratatouille (2007)

Captain B. McCrea
Wall-E (2008)

I was really excited to see this one. He fits perfectly onto the canvas. The captain hat is a nice touch. And drawing Auto into the left ear!!!! Brilliant.

Updated 04/18/13 Disney officially released a photo of the one and only variant in Animation 3. The Yellow version DOES NOT exist.

Eeyore
The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977)
Maria Clapsis

Wonderfully sad rainy day look. The only thing that could make this better is a detachable tail! No tail variant?

Basil of Baker Street
The Great Mouse Detective (1986)
Mike Sullivan

A great addition to the Animation lineup and a perfect facial expression.

Ludwig von Drake
An Adventure in Color (1961)
Thomas Scott

I’ve been waiting for this guy to show up! I am constantly amazed at how the artists can make different Vinylmation look like different periods of animation.

Stitch
Lilo and Stitch (2002)
Ron Cohee

This is why Ron Cohee is the best character artist Vinylmation has right now. He innovates. He is not afraid to put it all out there. Not only the best vinyl Stitch, but the only one that truly looks like him to date.

Ace of Clubs
Alice in Wonderland (1951)
Thomas Scott

Maybe a holdover from the Alice set? Wonderful artwork and the brush accessory works so very well.

Pascal
 Tangled (2010)
Monty Maldovan

Rapunzel never went on any adventure without her chameleon friend. This would make a great variant!

Panchito Pistoles
 Three Caballeros (1944)
Casey Jones

Jose last time… Donald in A4?

Mowgli
 The Jungle Book (1967)
Casey Jones

I like the continuation of characters from the same movie. We got Baloo last time. King Louis would be a great one for A4. Love the art on the ears!

Grumpy
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)
Ron Cohee

Dopey was in the last set… do we see trend here? What a great face!!!

Robin Hood
 Robin Hood (1973)

Nice art style with these. Love the leaves in the ears.
