Villains 2 Vinylmation Explained

Release Date: October 24
Where: Disney Stores
Price: TBA

Villains 2 is a follow up to the poplar Disney Store release of Villains 1 in early 2011. We had fun with that release and this second series looks to have a strong line up of bad guys. The style is top notch. I enjoy the fact that they did not feel the need to fit the entire Villain inside Mickey body part for body part. These larger than life characters are painted on to the mold large and bold. There are also many hat accessories… bad guys love hats don’t they?

Bowler Hat Guy
Meet the Robinsons (2007)
Voiced by: Stephen John Anderson
Artist: Kyle Jensen

Yeah!!!! I knew if I said his name on enough podcasts he would show up in a set. From one of the most underrated Disney movies of our time, this villain tugs at your heartstrings by the movie’s end. Thank you so much for giving us the bowler hat instead of painting it on.

Honest John
Worthington Foulfellow
Pinocchio (1940)
Voiced by: Walter Catlett
Artist: Gerald Mendez

Oh, the look of pure evil. Love it! Nice detail on the hat has well. Another case were I enjoy just the head and partial body.

Captain Hook
Peter Pan (1953)
Voiced by: Hans Conried
Artist: Oskar Mendez

A classic bad guy. I enjoy the way this set is designed with some character’s head taking up the entire Vinylmation. It’s a good choice that really makes these villains come right at you. But where is the hook? Variant? In the side view, you can see his hood painted on.

Dr Facilier
Princess and the Frog (2009)
Voiced by: Keith David
Artist: Gerald Mendez

This movie ushered hand drawn animation back into Disney movies. It was a beautifully drawn movie and this baddie stole the show… as many villains do. As much as I like the head shot close ups, this one deserves a fully body look. There is a lot going on with this character and so many movie references that could have gone into his ears. …looks like they put that detail on the back:

Evil Queen
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)
Voiced by: Lucille La Verne
Artist: Gerald Mendez

On the flip side to Dr. Facilier, this “bust-like” version looks phenomenal. I don’t mind no crown accessory, this painting is great. The vinyl losses a couple points for not using the ears. Again, give us movie references there.

Hades
Hercules (1997)
Voiced by: James Woods
Artist: Kyle Jensen

I think I like this one… a lot. But I want to see it in person. I think the head is a clear blue, and that is would be amazing! Again though, Disney Store artists… please use the ears more. the flames can go up into the ears. But I will give the artist benefit of the doubt on this design.

Big Bad Wolf
Three Little Pigs (1933)
Voiced by: Billy Bletcher
Artist: Enrique Pita

What a great character to include in this set! I think his face looks perfectly drawn. Look at the claws on the feet and the ears peaking out from the awesome hat.

Lady Tremaine
Cinderella (1950)
Voiced by: Eleanor Audley
Artist: Oskar Mendez

I am blown away by how good her face looks painted onto this figure. The wicked stepmother’s bad hair due fills much of head and ears with the silver streak on the forehead. Her face is outlined in an evil fiery glow.

Runaway Brain Mickey
Runaway Brain (1995)
Voiced by: Wayne Allwine
Artist: Enrique Pita

Another one? (Park 6 combo topper) Although I don’t want another so soon, this one beats the original hands down. I love the way that tongue hits the feat with a “splash.” And the brain on the back is amazing!

Shere Khan
Jungle Book (1967)
Voiced by: George Sanders
Artist: Kyle Jensen

A personal favorite bad guy. His voice is etched in my mind. This is done well. Very cartoonish looking and in the style of the lions on the lion king set. Also, great use of ears putting some jungle leaves in there. No tail accessory, but it’s nicely drawn on.

Yzma
Emperor’s New Groove (2000)
Voiced by: Ertha Kitt
Artist: Oskar Mendez

One of those movies you forget is Disney. This gives me much hope for a Kuzco, Pacha, Kronk and llama. This character has to be hard to capture on a vinyl and Oskar did a great job with her face, but it just misses. We don’t get the full feel of her giant head piece and collar.
Mystery Chaser

Last chaser was a popular villain from a recent classic. Go ahead, toss out a guess or two in the comments below. Mine? Gaston or the Horned King.

There will also be at least one 9″ / Jr Combo:

Genie Jafar and small genie Genie. It is designed by Enrique Pita, is LE 700 and retails for $59.95.

Florida Project Vinylmation Itinerary
Florida Project Pin Itinerary

Also, at D23, the free Vinylmation gift that registered guests get for attending the Florida Project was on display:

Minnie is not getting a warm reception. New mold aside, this figure looks kind of dull for such an amazing event celebrating Walt Disney World. And from D23, here is a better look at the Orange Bird Cast Chaser that will be in the Mystery Boxes at the Florida Project:

Now that’s what I call a great looking Vinylmation! Happy hunting.

Update: 8/19/11 Check out this article by Claudia with some helpful Florida Project info straight from the big D: Claudia’s Florida Project Info Update. Also, You should have received your RSP results by now. How did you do?

Update: 8/1/11 The RSP process is over. Results will be announced around August 12. Cards will be charged on August 22.

Update: 6/2/11 The RSP emails have gone out. Deadline to make your selection is July 31st at 11:59 PM PST.

Update: 5/6/11 Disney added prices for The Florida Project vinylmation. Pooh is $14.95, the Mickey/Dumbo 9″/3″ combo is $74.95, and the 9″ Empress Lily is $49.95.

Update: 4/9/11 Disney released a picture of the box that will contain the 3″ Winnie the Pooh. Check it out:Definitely one of the best pieces I’ve seen so far for the project! – MC

Update: 4/8/11 BIG CHANGE. Hula Girl is OUT! Replaced by 3″ Dumbo:

This Dumbo will be packaged with Retro Mickey 9″. Here is the quote from Steven Miller at Disney:
We unfortunately had to make a change to the 3-inch figure. The Hula Girl inspired figure was replaced with a rather colorful Dumbo. We asked Donald Ferro, developer for Vinylmation, about the change. Basically, he said that when the sample of the 3-inch figure arrived today, he did not like how the art was applied to the figure.”

Update: 4/6/11 We registered for The Florida Project. A bit of a wacky system. You couldn’t seemingly buy more than 1 ticket at a time. Also, it is technically 2 separate events… Pins on September 9th and 10th and Vinylmation on the 11th. Both require a separate ticket. The system also ran into some problems not letting me pass the “additional fee activities” page. You can purchase box lunches ($15), breakfast ($40) or dessert ($40). I selected “none” but the page wouldn’t advance until I closed my browser and started over. Good news, the Pin Event tickets dropped five bucks to $100 pre-May 6th and $115 after.

Update: 4/6/11 The catalog is out and there are only 4 figures in it. All of which we’ve seen parts of already. Now here are the full figures. Nothing too impressive to me. I was hoping for several series, but there looks like there will only be 1 9″, 1 9″/3″ set, and 1 3″ figure as exclusives. I really really hope they are holding something back or this show will be disappointing. If I wasn’t going for the website, the exclusive figures would not get me to pay the $40! I am very underwhelmed by the back and sides of all the figures except for Empress Lily. -MC

Update: 7PM The vinylmaiton blog released one more sneak peek image of a vinylmation from The Florida Project. Check out the head of the Hula Girl. Thanks Chuck!

REGISTRATION BEGINS ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 6TH AT 2PM EST.

Usually we reserve the “Explained” heading for pages with information about series collected as we lead up to their release. We will be updating this page with the information we know about The Florida Project.

The Florida Project is a 3-day Disney Pin and Vinylmation trading event from September 9-11, 2011. There are 2 separate ticketed events, the Pin Trading Event (9th and 10th) and the Vinylmation Event (11th). We will focus here on the Vinylmation part of the event. There will be one day dedicated to the collecting and trading of Vinylmation…

The Florida Project – Vinylmation Showcase
Date: September 11th 2011
Time: 9:30am – 2pm EST
Location: EPCOT World ShowPlace at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida
Tickets: $40.00 (Event admission does NOT include Theme Park admission to EPCOT, but that is required to attend.)

Event Admission Includes:
– First opportunity to purchase new Vinylmation Figures created for The Florida Project
– Silent auction featuring a variety Vinylmation items from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
– Vinylmation Trading opportunities.
– Artists Signings with Disney Design Group Artists.
– Limited edition commemorative gift.
– Plus extra special surprises throughout the event.

Free Public Day
There will also be a “Public Day” from 2pm – 5pm EST on Sunday, September 11th. This means FREE admission to the event, but you still need EPCOT admission. DV attended the public day at last year’s Trade City show and were still able to pick up some of the LE Vinylmation, see upcoming releases first hand and there was still plenty of trading going on. However you will not receive any of the gifts and will miss certain opportunities.

Pin Trading
If you are interested in the 2-day event dedicated to pin collecting, buying and trading activities, the cost of the event will be $105 before May 6th and $120 after. $100 before May 6th and $115 after. The pin event features LE items, a tee-shirt, silent auction, event only pins available for trade, autograph sessions with Disney artists, (2) $15 gift cards good for food and beverage at EPCOT and “extra special surprises.” You can find more details on the pin portion of the event by clicking here.

What to Expect at The Florida Project
A lot of this will sound familiar, because it is basically the same place, time of year, and event as Trade City was last year. Because of that, we assume that for the most part the event will be similar, just different in theme. That means we expect lots of LE exclusive merchandise, including pins and vinylmation, to come out that weekend. We also hope that either Steven Miller (or a similar Vinylmation official) will be giving a presentation showcasing future Vinylmation figures like they did on Sunday of the Trade City event. We hope that there will be several announcements made during that presentation, and that several never seen before figures will be on display to tease us for the next year. We also expect a lot of trading tables for collectors to bargain with each other. Also expect for Destination Vinylmation to be out in full force.

History of The (real) Florida Project

Walt Disney introduces The Florida
Project in 1965. Photo courtesy of
WDW News
The Florida Project refers to the term that was used by Walt Disney when he was secretly buying up large plots of land in Central Florida near Orlando to build his new theme park. The theme of this event will be the planning and opening of Walt Disney World in the early 70s here in Florida. Expect a “alternate” preview center retro merchandise and lots of 70’s design colors. Like the poster above and this first exclusive Vinylmation:
Retro Dumbo

RSP2
Artist: Thomas Scott
Sold with Retro Mickey 9″
LE 1500
Set Price: $74.95

It looks like Dumbo will have the same hat he had in his Hong Kong 5th Anniversary figure. (It’s not removable). The flower details are cool, as is that collar around his neck. I really want this piece.

Hula Girl
WILL NOT BE AT FLORIDA PROJECT
Artist: Thomas Scott
Sold with Retro Mickey 9″
LE 1500
Expect to see this at some other timeThanks to all the readers who reminded me that this is probably a reference to the Hula dancers at the Polynesian Resort at WDW. (I can’t believe I forgot about the lei I got last time I went!)

I am really not impressed with this figure. Nothing interesting on the turn around either.” – M.C. “Love it! Now I have to get the 9″ Retro Mickey.” – Nick. (Click image to enlarge.)

Retro 70s Mickey 9″

RSP2
Artist: Thomas Scott
Sold with: 3″ Retro Dumbo
LE 1500
Set Price: $74.95

“I was hoping this was part of a set of 3″ figures. But it’s not. It’s a 9″ and is part of a set with the Hula Girl. Kinda lame.” – M.C.

“I’m the biggest fan of retro Disney there is, but the colors here do not look good to me. I was hoping for more of an artistic figure (when all we saw was the head) with different retro items similar to the poster above in the body.” – Nick

Here’s the turn around for this piece. Click to enlarge.

Retro Pooh 3″

RSP1
Artist: Casey Jones
LE 1000
Price: $14.95

“This too I hoped was part of the set. Relatively similar in design, it’s a great representation of Pooh and his honeypot. And as always, there’s a Bee keeping everything in check. I think I will get this because it’s a 3″.” – M.C.

“This figure represents one of the early costumed Poohs that walked around WDW. An interesting note, is the ears are clear, not blue as in the concept art.” – Nick

Empress Lilly 9″

RSP3
Artist: Lin Shih
LE: 750
Price: $49.95

Now home to Fulton’s Crab House and Birthplace of Character Dining.

“Not sure if this one floats my boat.” – M.C.

I’m not on board with this design either.” “Wow! Nice detail now that we see the entire figure. I’ll make a decision when I see it in person.” After seeing this in person, it is a greatly detailed and colorful piece. I sill don’t care for the subject matter, but Its a nice figure.” – Nick

Here’s the back.

It’s a Small World Jr. 4 Vinylmation Explained

It’s a Small World
Release Date: August 19 (D23), September 11 (Florida Project), September 16 (D-Streets)
Artist: Thomas Scott

Update: 8/28/11 IASW was released at D23 last weekend and sold for $8.95 a blind box. We have revealed the entire set and chasers below. We also learned that IASW will be released at the Florida Project, but then in D-Streets on September 16.

Update: 8/5/11 Thomas Scott showed us a handful of Small World Jrs. today. Some of which we have not yet seen:

Photo from Disney’s Vinylmation Blog

For more ideas of what might also be in this set check out

Poodle

This pink pooch made the cut. In my opinion, it looks a little odd on this Jr mold, but it has been well received.

Penguin

I like the choice to have him looking up so his beak uses the ear.

Indian Girl

One of the female dolls in the attraction.

Girl Doll

One of the female dolls in the attraction.

Girl Doll

One of the female dolls in the attraction.

Girl Doll

One of the female dolls in the attraction.

Frog

Looks good on the Jr with the eyes in the ears.

Boy Doll

One of the male dolls in the attraction.

Boy Doll

One of the male dolls in the attraction.

Queen Chess Piece

A black and white figure, the Queen spins around on a chess board with the King toward the beginning of the ride. Will we see the King? Could he be on the back??

Cactus

Next to the Leopard (already done brilliantly in Park 4), the musical Cactus is one of my favorite characters in the attraction. Glad to see him a part of this set. – Nick
Masked Girl

This is another one I was hoping to see after refreshing my memory with last weekends boat trip. The masked girl is in a hula skirt and is dancing around a masked boy playing a drum.

Smiling Sun

The big smiling sun. If they were not going all Kids and Animals, this one had to be in there. It brightens up any trip around the World.

Tiger

I really like all the animals in It’s a Small World. This tiger Jr is great A lot of character packed into a 1.5″ piece of vinyl.

Girl

This girl was our first glimpse at this series when Disney Artist Thomas Scott tweeted it one morning.

Hippo

Including so many animals really brings up the enjoyment level of this set for me. Great detail for a Jr. Will it have a bird on the head?

Black and White Explained

Artist: Sarah Matthews
Release Date: August 12th D-Streets and Online
Sold As: Set of 6
Price: $99.95
LE: 2000

Update: 8/11/11 Disney announced the release date for this set. It will be tomorrow, August 12th at D-Streets and Online. Here’s a look at the box it comes in. It reminds me of chocolates.

Update: 8/10/11 Chris sent us this picture. Black and White is on display at D-Street. Now we have a good look at all 6.

Update: 8/5/11 We can see blurry and blocked pieces of some of the other figures in this set.

Copyright Disney

Here’s what we know about this set so far. It’s a 6 piece set, that will go on sale for $99.95 (like Steam Park). There will only be 2000 of these made. The artist is Sarah Matthews.

Black Flowers Looking like a two tonded spirlgraph picture, the Black Flowers are on a white background.
White Ivy

White Ivy is on a black background. I really think this one is cool. So far it’s the only one I’d get, except they come in a set.

Hearts of a String

Pretty.

Popcorn

Striped bag, lots of kernels flying. Ok, it’s not perfect, but that’s what it reminds me off.

Bird and Flower

This bird has been taking a bite of a flower. Do birds eat flowers??

Birdhouse in your Soul

Lots of fun images here. I really like how the birds and this quote create the “eyes” on the head.

The Lion King Vinylmation Explained

Lion King
Release Date: August 21 at D23 Expo; August 29 at Disney Stores
Disney Store Exclusive
Retail: TBA

Released to theaters on June 15, 1994 by Walt Disney Pictures, The Lion King is the 32nd film in the Walt Disney Animated Classics. The Lion King will be released on Blu Ray on October 4th, 2011 and hit theaters once again for two weeks beginning September 16th… this time in 3D.

“First impression… this set is amazing. The detail on the figures blows me away. Rafiki stands out as my favorite. I’m a little disappointed in Zazu, but can’t place it. I will say I’m a bit disappointed in character selection, but only because I would have liked to see maybe some Lion King landscapes, or other (non main character) animals, or movie scenes. Lion King is a vibrant movie, and that is captured on the characters here, but I would have like the envelope pushed farther. Here is where I get controversial… two Hyenas here? either give us all three or none. Because as much as like New Mold, the Villains 1 Banzai doesn’t fit here. Now that you guys changed my mind this is Banzai here and not Ed, that means the chaser most likely is Ed. They wouldn’t give us 2 Hyenas, with one we already have in Villains 1, and not all 3… or would they? Just one more thing… lots of tails???” – Nick

Mufasa

Voiced by James Earl Jones

King of Pridelands and Simba’s father.

Beautiful colors and great use of the entire mold to give Mufasa a strong presence. I do not agree with the angry roar version depicted here. I think of Mufasa more as a stoic and wise leader. I would have liked to see a friendlier looking version.

Young Nala

Voiced by Niketa Calame

Simba’s best friend and later mate.

A nice clean and simple look.

Young Simba

Voiced by Johnathan Taylor Thomas

Zoe called this one! She calls him “I just can’t wait to be king Simba”. It’s young Simba with the leaves all around his head before he grows up and gets his mane. Great looking figure. I might be blasted for this, but this young Simba looks 20x better than the Animation 1 Combo Topper.

Baby Simba

Voiced by N/A

Simply a brilliant choice. Didn’t expect this one. Thank Zoe for helping figure this one out. He looks perturbed at being shown off around the Pridelands and comes complete with the markings Rafiki put on his little head.

Timon

Voiced by Nathan Lane

This guy and Pumba make this set great. The artist took the fun route with these guys, not just giving you the character, but designing a representation of classic movie scenes. Look at the animation in his mouth as it raises up and back. Perfect. Also, I like the small detail like the light brown color coming down onto the hand uneven, not a straight line at the cuff.

Pumbaa

Voiced by Ernie Sabella

Awesome! Simply a great capture. Look how big his face is. Takes up the whole figure. That’s where the artists excel in this set… using the head for the upper part of the face and extending it down into the body. Then the colors and detail on the bug as well.

Zazu

Voiced by Rowan Atkinson

Why does this one just miss for me? And no mold cracks please. They eyes and body color are captured well. I would argue that the feet need to be an orange as opposed to yellow. Maybe he needs a neck piece? Maybe, like Cruella, he needs to be painted inside the body and not fill out the body? Maybe a profile would have worked better. Big question… Sam the Eagle like tail on back?

Rafiki

Voiced by Robert Guillaume

Best figure in set hands down. Wow! Good job Disney artists. The accessory really puts him over the top. Great facial expression, coloring and placement of art.

Scar

Voiced by Jeremy Irons

Very similar to Mufasa in style, they are brothers, but Scar of course has the more menacing and dark look to him. Again, his features are perfectly captured on the mold. Pairing a roaring Scar with a roaring Mufasa does make sense.

Shenzi

Voiced by Whoopi Goldberg

One of Scar’s three henchmen hyenas.

This one looks good. The tuft of hair on the head. The menacing smile. Nicely done.

Ed Banzai

Voiced by Cheech Marin

One of Scar’s three henchmen hyenas.

Thanks for all you comments changing my mind. I thought this was a total miss as ED, because I couldn’t believe they would put another Banzai in a set after Villains 1… but they did. I’ll say, this one looks better.

Mystery Chaser

What are your guesses? Sarabi? Timon in hula skirt? Ed?

Steam Park Explained

Update: 7/7/11 Disney has changed the online release date from July 18th to July 22nd.

Date: 6/28/11 Disney gave out some details and packaging info today. We knew Steam Park will be released as a 6 figure set and now we know the price. It will retail for $99.95 at both Orlando and California D-Streets and will be available on July 8. The set is a LE of 1000. There will also be a small amount available at the WDW Trading Show on July 8th. (Remember that D-Street California will open at 8 AM this day for the season pass holder exclusives, so these should be on sale at that time too!) People who don’t live by the parks can pick these up on July 22nd on the DisneyStore.com. Some of the price point may account for the elaborate box the set comes in. Here’s a look:

A very detailed box with windows looking in at the 6 Vinylmation.

“The packaging is what pushed me over the top with this set. I’ll be there on the 8th ready for mine. Before the trade show of course!” – MC

Update: 4/25/11 DV reporter Ryan talked to a source today about this set. They confirmed that this will be sold as a set of 6. It is also scheduled for release “mid-summer”. To us this means that the set will be similar to the packaging of Sushi and with a similar price, but that’s speculation. Also speculation, Disney places this set in their “Limited Edition Set” list, which leads us to believe that this will be a LE set!

First off, love the name! We first saw references to several in this set back in the summer of ’10. Then the SteamPark pocket watch came out, and it was awesome. Then nothing, for a long time. Well, now we have a few of the artist renderings of several more figures we have never seen before! (Thanks to Scuba Owl for letting us know that these pictures were up.)

This set will be sold as a set of six (without the Gears and Cogs which came in the Pocket Watch set). It is scheduled for a “mid-summer” release.

Artist: Mike Sullivan
Released: July 8th D-Streets and July 22nd Online
Price: $99.95
LE: 1000

The Magnificent Balloon

If it’s big enough, and you have enough hot air, you can make almost anything fly. Just drape a net over the balloon and attach the ends to what ever you want to ride in. Be a car, a horse buggy, or even your home, Carl.

Grandson Clock

A grandfather clock is old. This is new and fancy, the cutting edge of time technology.

Steel Mickey

I’m not sure if they is a submarine, or an ancient power source. Maybe we will learn more in the future.

Steampark Cyborg

Half man, half steampunk machine. All evil! (Well, Evil is assumed)

The Engineer

I know she might just be the mechanic, but I will give her the benefit of the doubt and say that not only does she maintain the machines, but she knows enough to design them when push comes to mechanic shove. (Think Kaylee from Firefly.)
The Commandant

The leader of the good forces (we assume) and the man who can defend the world from the evil forces (if there are any). We’ve seen him for a while now.

Gears and Cogs (Pocket Watch)

This appears to be the 3″ figure that came with the Steam Park Pocket Watch. The best of all the 3″ vinylmation that came with the watches. Very cool.

What do you think of this series? What would you like to see?

Astrology Vinylmation Explained

Hidden on the Sneak page of vinylmation.com is the concept artwork for the Astrology Series. Check them all out here. Some cool things to note, both Cancer and Scopio have claws as hands! Also Leo and Taurus look amazing! It also seems like they have connected stars on some to create the constellation that they represent. We will see more when we get the turn arounds. We also expect to see these are open boxes so you can pick the one you want.

Artist: Not known
Release Date: None
Set Size: 12 Open Boxed- assumed

Aries
March 21 – April 20

The ram is the symbol of Aries.

Taurus
April 21 – May 20

The bull symbolizes Taurus. Great detail on this piece. I enjoy the nose ring. And the color is amazing.

Gemini
May 21 – June 20

Twins are the symbol is Gemini. I have a feeling this piece is going to make more sense from a side view. (Does this mean we are going to have to get two, so we can display both sides?)

Cancer
June 21 – July 22

Cancer is represented by the crab. Check out it’s hands, they use the claws that we first saw with the lobster from the Sea Creatures series!
Leo
July 23 – August 23

This is the lion. I love it. If they get the colors to look like they do here, then it will rock!

Virgo
August 24 – September 22

Virgo is symbolized by “the maiden”. It’s also an Earth symbol.

Libra
September 23 – October 23

The scales are what represent Libra.

Scorpio
October 24 – November 21

It’s kinda obvious, but Scorpio is presented as a scorpion. This one also used the claws as hands just like Cancer.

Sagittarius
November 22 – December 21

Sagittarius is usually represented by an archer or a centaur. It looks like they went the centaur way here, but it should be more clear once we see the back. Will there be a quiver. Will there be another set of legs and a tail?

Capricorn
December 22 – January 19

I don’t know what a sea-goat is. But this kinda looks like one. Right?

Waves on the bottom. Horns, and a goatee.

Aquarius
January 20 – February 19

Water is associated with this sign. Especially water carried in a jar (which you see spilling on the right ear).

Pisces
February 20 – March 20

Always represented by a pair of fish, here is Pisces.

What do you think of these pieces? Will you get the set, or just your personal one?

Bakery Explained

Update: Price now confirmed by photo of poster at D-Street!!

Update: 6/1/11 On Facebook, Kevin from CA, confirmed a price tag of $11.95. We assume that the price will be the same here in Florida. Once we get visual confirmation, we’ll let ya know! This is cheaper then I expected with all the extra vinyl, what do you think of the price tag??

Update: 5/19/11 Disney has announced a release date of June 3 at D-Street FL and CA. They also released pictures and an exciting reveal.

As some people have predicted, the icing is removable revealing the character’s head inside. Right now, we only have a picture of the Mickey with icing off, but they also released pictures of Cheshire Cat and Tinkerbell (see below). This set will be sold in open window boxes and was changed from being limited edition to an open ended production number.
Open Window Box Bakery Series

Update: 4/20/11 While looking at the Disney Vinylmation Vault today I noticed that they added Bakery to the list. This usually means that it’s out already, or that it’s really close to release. What do you think? Might it be out in a foreign Disneyland or will we get a surprise on Friday? Also we now know the artist is Susan Foy.

Update: 4/9/11 After a discussion in line at D-Street we pondered if the icing would be removable. Check out the discussion at Cute on the Inside?

4/7/11 How awesome is this? Today Disney added a sneak preview of the Bakery set to their Sneak page. And get this, The Mickey, Minnie, and Cheshire Cat look exactly like MC artistically rendered! First, they were cupcakes with frosting, like we imaged, and then they look very very similar! So check out the whole set, designed by Susan Foy, and let us know what you think!

Mickey Cupcake

Straightforward, but kinda cool. We don’t have many straight forward Mickey heads, so this will be nice.

Minnie Cupcake

Also simple in design, but perfect in execution!

Cheshire Cat Cupcake

Purple stripes, with little tuffs of hair at the top. (Hair in a cupcake? ewwwww) Look at that signature big grin! Nice and colorful… great looking piece. “Makes me want a real Cheshire Cat figure.” – Nick

Marie Cupcake

“Lots more detail here, but I surprisingly am starting to like this Bakery set.” – M.C.
“Like the paw prints, but another Marie design?” – Nick

Tinkerbell Cupcake

I wonder how shinny the glitter is? A very Tink design, the wink is a nice touch. “This is why Princesses are going to be a problem, the head is just to fat for Tink’s look and she looks boyish to me.” – Nick

Confetti Mickeys Cupcake

“Wow, a fail for the final one. Why not do another character? Donald? Snow White?” – M.C. (before removal of icing) “Great surprise underneath! Like the facial expression.” – Nick

Noah Little Mermaid 3″

Price: $150
LE 12

We haven’t seen the back of this piece yet, but here’s the front. Lots of little bubbles.

Noah Little Mermaid 9″

Price: $595
LE 12

The paint job on this figure looks amazing. This piece comes with a plastic display stand and has a piece of artwork as a backdrop.

Urban 7 Explained

Update: 7/23/11 Added Combo Topper and Green Cyclops Variant.

Update: 6/4/11 Updated the Alien with the two forms, clear and solid.

Update: 5/24/11 Release date of July 22 announced for the 3″ Urban 7 series. And we got this picture of the back the U7’s “Dizturbed” head:

VMHC? “VinylMation Hard Core” suggests one of our readers Chris.

Update: 5/21/11 9 figures from the upcoming Urban 7 set were on Display at the WDW Trade Show last night. We have the pics below.

Update: 5/13/11 Thanks to Hannah we have artist names for this series!

5/12/11 The Urban 7 Vinylmation pin set has been released, so we have a sneak peak to 9 of the 12 figures that will be in the Vinylmation figure set. Thank you to @igotlost for sending us the picture of the packaging.

Urban 7 Combo Topper

I actually like this one. The color works for me. Seems like a Metal Mickey (like one of the exclusive Pop Vinyl for Comic Con)
Thanks to J for the heads up.
The combo topper will be available from D-Streets and online on August 5th.

Alien
Artist: Thomas Scott

Mystery solved. We know know what set this classic alien figure is in. However there are at least two versions. A solid green and a clear green. One is the variant.

Zombie School Girl
Artist: Lin Shih

She is a very preppy, nerdy girl design. But also the coloring is odd and no eyeballs. Is she a zombie nerd girl? Will those glasses be a removable accessory?

Spaghetti and Meatballs
Artist: Casey Jones

A delicious looking Vinylmation. Like the meatball ears. It would be cool if there was a fork in the back digging into this dish.

Dizturbed Rocker
Artist: Thomas Scott

This guy is at a concert getting ready to do some head banging. He appears to be wearing studded wristbands and belt. Nice facial expression. Will this be more accepted than Scott’s U5 Bearded Man?

Paint Splatter
Artist: Susana

Looks like a Disney artist got wild with the paint brushes again. I do like the heart shaped splatter on the chest. We will see what kind of detail we get on the back. It’s a clear figure.

Jukebox
Artist: Caley Hicks

An old school jukebox design. For the younger people out there, think iPod, only larger, doesn’t hook up to your computer and isn’t digital. I like the music notes in the ears. The colors are great on this one.

Rotary Phone
Artist: Lisa Badeen

A nod to the era when it took 5 minutes to call someone. And whats that in the head? Phones once had cords? And look, another phone number on a Vinylmation! A clear head with the cord going through it.

Dark Side of the Mouse

Artist: Maria Clapsis

Looks like a peak into the 60s or 70s with a psychedelic space theme. Check out the Mickey head in the foot!

Squirrel and Nut
Artist: Doug Strayer

Cutesters Too had a kid in a squirrel outfit. On the bottom next to Maria’s name was an acorn. This is a similar idea, only the Squirrel is more realistic, as is the nut.

Penguin
Artist: Maria Clapsis

Another penguin! (Which Disney actually made a joke about!) Here he is holding a fish. This one seems a little more gruesome then the squirrel, because the fish is living.

Cyclops
Artist: Mike Sullivan

This is the hardest to understand. It looks like a crazy cyclops gingerbread man. The top almost looks like some kind of Asian writing. Or it looks like the first stage of a Bob Ross painting. All it needs is some “happy little trees”. There’s also a green variant.

Here is the rest of Urban 7. A couple Ear Hats where already released. And we have seen some Urban 7 Jumbo Pins pointing toward future 9″ figures

Color Bars 9″

If this is anything like the hat, I will break my 9″ rule. Here’s to hoping the body and head at the color bars, the ears are similar to the hat, and that it has an antenna as an add on “hat”!

Cookies and Milk 9″

From the Ear Hat we think the head and body will be the milk carton, and the ears will have the cookies

Delightful Flowers 9″

Similar to other 9″ designs, this just has a theme, but not over arching design.

Mean Old Dog 9″

This one will look cool in a big size.
