Figment Art Scavenger Hunt Added to Epcot International Festival of the Arts

According to the official Disney World website:

Figment’s Brush with the Masters Scavenger Hunt
Can you find Figment? Slip into sleuth mode while searching for clues that lead to the elusive little dragon—leave no painting in the World Showcase unturned!

No other details are available as of yet, but it appears that everyone’s favorite purple dragon will be hiding in art around World Showcase during the Epcot International Festival of the Arts.

It is unclear if this will be a paid hunt with pin prizes like the Remy Hide and Go Squeak at the Food and Wine Festival or a free event.

New Figment & Belle Topiaries Take Center Stage at the 2017 Epcot Flower & Garden Festival

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Celebrating 24 years when it kicks off March 1, 2017, the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival will jump-start spring with gardens of earthly delights plus new character topiaries, entertainers and food and drink offerings.

The festival, which expanded to 90 days in 2016, will open with an irresistible array of fresh surprises and new treats:

  • Fresh, farm-market food and beverage flavors will debut at two new Outdoor Kitchens that will join 13 returning Outdoor Kitchens. Guest can sip and savor their way around Epcot, enjoying chef-inspired noshes and refreshing libations with or without a kick.
  • The new generation of princess topiaries (Snow White, Anna and Elsa – the first to be designed and created with topiary facial features) will welcome a brand-new Belle topiary as fans remember her from the Oscar-winning Disney film, “Beauty and the Beast.” Located outside the France pavilion with the Beast topiary, Belle will come to life with sculpted facial features and her yellow ball gown created with golden blooming Joseph’s Coat plants.
  • Another festival first will be a 6-foot-tall topiary of Figment, the feisty dragon mascot of the park’s Imagination! pavilion, perched atop a 5-foot-diameter ball fashioned from yellow Joseph’s Coat.
A Figment topiary of a smaller size graced the exterior of the pavilion many years ago.

  • The brand-new Epcot front-entrance topiary garden inspired by a vintage Walt Disney short film will spring to life with a floral-festooned maypole featuring Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Daisy and Pluto.
  • The popular Garden Rocks concert series will expand to four days each week, with three concerts each Friday through Monday presenting pop musicians that span multiple genres over four decades.
  • New Garden Rocks Dining Packages will be available on select days at a number of Epcot restaurants.
  • Reimagined interactive play gardens will include a new take on the “Cars”-themed garden introducing a new character topiary from the June 2017 release of the Disney•Pixar sequel, “Cars 3.” Music Garden Melodies play area will return with new garden and topiary elements.
  • For the first time, the event’s Festival Center will extend operating hours from Wednesday, March 1 through Sunday, March 5. Throughout the rest of the festival, the center will be open each Friday through Sunday with an entertaining mix of gardening seminars and DIY workshops.

One of the popular Outdoor Kitchen gardens, Urban Farm Eats, will return with savory bites, sweet treats and ideas for planting produce that can inspire growing numbers of guests who want to learn to grow their own edibles.

“A lot of people, including young children, are serious foodies now, and they have lots of questions about gardening,” says Eric Darden, festival horticulture manager. “We’re getting more and more people in their 20s and 30s asking, ‘How can I grow this?’ I think we’ll be creating more gardeners because people can see what’s possible.”

The 2017 festival forecast will be sunny with colorful floral bursts by day and a nighttime landscape aglow with twinkling lights:

  • Topiaries of Donald Duck and nephews Huey, Dewey and Louie will share Future World space in front of Spaceship Earth with Chip and Dale for a “Fresh Epcot” selfie and family photo opportunity.
  • Anna and Elsa topiaries will return to the Norway pavilion festival landscape in celebration of the park’s new Frozen Ever After Nearly 100 festival topiaries in all will include up to 70 character creations such as Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Lady and the Tramp, Simba, Timon and Tinker Bell.
  • Guests will encounter garden surprises and special appearances related to Earth Day and other spring activities.
  • The Butterflies on the Go garden will return with the story of the Monarch’s epic journey across the continent and featuring butterflies emerging from their chrysalises.
  • On the way to the new Soarin’ Around the World film at the Soarin’attraction in The Land pavilion, guests can discover gardens featuring edible flowers, plants that benefit health and healing, and a pollinator paradise.
  • Dozens of Disney-crafted “flower towers” and beds of multi-colored blooms will transform the park’s landscape. At least 70,000 bedding plants will surround the Future World east and west lakes alone; on the water, 220 mini-gardens will be set afloat.

The festival, including all gardening programs and exhibits, is included in regular Epcot admission.

PHOTO REPORT: Epcot 8/18/16 (Mexico Climbers, Oswald, Figment Removal, ETC.)

We take a short trip to Epcot in our latest photo report, catching up on a few minor changes around the park, as well as some new merchandise items for sale.

No Climbing at the Mexico Pavilion

No Climbing Sign on the Mexico Pavilion at Epcot

No Climbing Sign on the Mexico Pavilion at Epcot

So, the old sign was clearly ripped off and these new signs using an Epcot font put in place. I only hope these are temporary as they damaged the wall underneath and these look no better than what was already there.

It wouldn’t be a photo report if I wasn’t hocking some of Disney’s latest souvenirs you could take home…

Peter Pan Snowglobe

The Peter Pan’s Flight snow-globe was remade without Tinker Bell on the top. The Tink statue was too fragile and was breaking in transit, so they just placed Peter’s hat on top of the new version.

Strange Things are Happening at the Imagination Pavilion

Journey Into Imagination queue

Strange things continue to happen at the Imagination pavilion, like this now wide open backstage walkway in the Journey Into Imagination queue. There used to be a metal gate here.

Journey Into Imagination queue

All of the projectors in the queue were also set to stationary, so there was no Figment appearing every few seconds.

Karamel Kuche

For my birthday, a group of friends decided to buy me some treats from the Karamel Kuche in Germany since I had never tried anything from there before. Everything was pretty amazing, so I’ll definitely be back.

Journey Into Imagination, Alien Encounter, and More Vintage T-Shirts Coming in NEW YesterEars Line

Yester Ears A Vintage Collection by Disney Parks

Yester Ears A Vintage Collection by Disney Parks

Disney today announced “YesterEars” coming to the Disney Parks Online Store on August 18. This collection was inspired by a shop with the same name once found at the former Downtown Disney Pleasure Island area when it first opened. During the next three months, you’ll find limited release apparel inspired by classic Walt Disney World Resort attractions and locations. Here’s a look at what you will find from August 18-25, 2016 at DisneyStore.com/ParkEvents.

Journey Into Imagination t-shirt

Journey Into Imagination t-shirt

The first shirt in this collection is inspired by the original Dreamfinder and Figment shirt that was sold at EPCOT Center in the 1980’s.

Walt Disney World Preview Center Raglan

Walt Disney World Preview Center Raglan

There is also a Raglan with artwork inspired by a Walt Disney World Preview Center advertisement. The Center was open from January 10, 1970, until September 30, 1971. At the location, guests could learn about the project firsthand through displays of models and drawings, and a short filmed presentation. There was also a snack bar and merchandise shop. The original Preview Center building can still be found on Hotel Plaza Boulevard near Disney Springs.

Alien Encounter X-S Tech T-Shirt

Alien Encounter X-S Tech T-Shirt

Finally, you can “seize the future” with this X-S Tech shirt inspired by ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter. This classic Tomorrowland attraction was open from June 20, 1995 to October 11, 2003 in Magic Kingdom Park. Housed in the Tomorrowland Interplanetary Convention Center was the laboratory of X-S Tech, a corporation from a distant planet intent on demonstrating its interplanetary teleportation apparatus. But the demonstration was marred by difficulties and an alien creature was accidentally teleported into the laboratory.

Additional apparel from the “YesterEars” collection will be released over the next 3 months.

6/16/14 Walt Disney World Photo Report (Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Disney Springs)

In an effort to best keep you updated with what is going on at Walt Disney World, we will be providing a comprehensive photo report every Monday. Should we attend anything of note during the week, we will of course continue to post videos and smaller photo reports on other weekdays, but Monday will offer the largest and most detailed on a weekly basis. With that being said, let’s dive in and see what’s new as of June 16th, 2014:

It comes with sheet music to show you how to play a few Disney songs

Some work happening by this gate between Africa and Asia

The store was quite busy on Saturday, but it was Car Masters Weekend

Pleasure Island continues its conversion into The Landing

Construction finally happening in the old Harley-Davidson location

The waterway between Pleasure Island and Marketplace is behind walls, also, one of the old PI train ticket booths is gone

Work continues outside of Fulton’s and Portobello

The latest progress on the new Marketplace bridge

The area between T-Rex and the LEGO store is a mess right now

Reminds me of 2010 at Disney California Adventure

The former site of Pollo Campero

Looking towards World of Disney

If you go this way, you will be funneled into LEGO

A look at the lake from the LEGO area

I hit Marketplace Co-Op to pick up some things and also tried my hand at creating a phone case. The process is fairly simple…

Moving over to Epcot, removal of the Flower and Garden Festival is still taking place… more on that later…

The Odyssey is actually open and hosting World Cup viewing all-day long

Come on in!

The interior is nicely decorated

There’s even a physical board they will update through the rounds of the World Cup

Tables and chairs are set-up inside, but there are also some cushy leather chairs in the first two rows in front of the big screen

The side pockets of the room are also filled with chairs and smaller screens

Some modest food offerings inside as well

There’s even a store filled with Epcot World Cup merchandise!

So, where the butterfly garden was located, apparently the workers hit a water main and now the entire area is being excavated…

No Figment comics remaining at Imagination!, they sold out pretty quick

As a result of the damaged water main, the Imagination! waterfall is off

Some ponds in the area have been drained as well

Olaf carrot cake cupcake for sale at the Main Street Bakery

There’s also a Frozen cupcake

We had dinner at the Be Our Guest Restaurant last night…

It had been a little while since we had been here, but the menu again had some new additions and price hikes

The current kid’s menu

The grey stuff is now offered as a dessert, served on top of a chocolate cake. It was still delicious!

Tom Corless’ 5/6/13 Epcot Photo Report

While visiting Epcot on Monday to see the Three Caballeros, I managed to take pictures of a few other newsworthy items around the park, so lets take a look:

Photo & Video Sharing by SmugMug

The “toothpick holder” set was updated with a retro Figment shot glass now included

Some new shirts out in Mouse Gear

Work continues on turning FountainView into a Starbucks location

Work is just getting started on Spice Road Table in the Morocco pavilion

The latest Good Luck/Bad Luck pin has Yoda, which is interesting because the set until now has consisted of classic Disney characters

A new retro Journey Into Imagination keychain came out recently

A Figment of Noah’s Imagination

Artist Noah has released his latest 9″ Vinylmation creation titled “Dream Dragon.” It features Figment from Epcot’s Imagination Pavilion and celebrates the 30th anniversary of the theme park.

There will be 30 of these made and are for sale right now exclusively at Disney’s Vinylmation Facebook Store for $750. This custom continues Noah’s style of an airbrushed figure on a stand with a painted back. I really like the Figment that is featured on the stand as well as the cut on “30.”

LED Lighting Enhancements Added to Journey Into Imagination with Figment

So, while we have been tweeting a lot over the last 10 days or so, Disney’s wonderful wifi at their resorts (Pop Century and Art of Animation) have kept us from posting some news. Apologies for the long gap without stories, but there is about to be a flood of news coming you way over the next week or so starting with this interesting tidbit.

If you thought that Epcot may soon replace the Journey Into Imagination with Figment attraction (just now celebrating its tenth anniversary), you may be in for a surprise. Another significant investment in the ride has just been made, this time in the attraction lighting. A few months ago we showed you the installation of new screens and projectors through the ride, but now two scenes have added dramatic LED lighting and effects.

The smell lab scene now changes between two colors before blasting you with an unpleasant odor, while the finale scene becomes a rainbow of rotating colors. I hate to say this, but this makes a dramatic difference. Not only does the finale actually stay completely hidden until the walls explode, but the reveal is actually a “wow” moment. So while no replacement is on the way yet, it’s nice to see time and effort spent on a forgotten attraction. Here’s video of the changes:

So, what do you think?
