PHOTO REPORT: Magic Kingdom 6/2/17 (Happily Ever After, Road Work, iCan Robot, Gay Days, ETC.)
Our latest photo report brings us to the Magic Kingdom, so lets see what is new and exciting at Walt Disney World’s first park:
Road Work Rages On
Road work continues on World Drive to enhance the Magic Kingdom arrival and departure experience. Work is underway for a new “flyover” for access to Magic Kingdom resorts and completely reworked and expanded toll plaza for the Transportation and Ticket Center.
We snapped all of these pics while riding aboard the Epcot monorail.
Welcome to the Magic Kingdom
Happily Ever After

The Happily Ever After nighttime spectacular debuted a few weeks ago, taking over the park map.

The poster for the show replaces Wishes under the train station. It is also sponsored by Pandora… the jewelry, not the moon.

A number of Happily Ever After items can be found for sale in The Emporium.

An annual passholder shirt is available behind one of the registers.

Large crowds have been showing up nightly for the new show, so be sure to get there with plenty of time to spare if you care where you see it from.
If you would like our thoughts on the show, you can read them here.
We have a video of the premiere performance of thew show for you to enjoy:
We also have video of a special performance of the spectacular, which includes a live performance of the theme song at the end by the voices who recorded it for the actual show:
This and That
The attraction poster phone case designs are already gone from D-Tech on Demand. There is no word as to why they were pulled, but hopefully you were able to grab one before they were removed.
Some new MagicBand and phone case designs were made available recently.

I continue to love the fajitas platter at Pecos Bill’s, even with the yellow rice that replaced the previous iteration.
With the fixin’s bar, a kid’s meal can become a real feast.
Disney recently changed their bagged carrots for kids to a new brand. I’ve never heard of these…

The Disney Parks exclusive Jolly Roger Pop Funko figure is available again in Caribbean Plaza.
The rhino is still missing over at the Jungle Cruise.
The former hot dog stand in Frontierland now sells Mickey Pretzels and Churros.
The hearse is missing outside of the Haunted Mansion.

A new Under the Sea Treat cupcake is available at Prince Eric’s Village Market.
The interactive robot character iCan recently debuted in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom.

In my opinion, this is a million times better than PUSH ever was, engaging far more guests. He is portrayed by a pretty witty performer to boot, making this Streetmosphere for Tomorrowland, essentially.

His showtimes are listed on the timed guide, so be sure to catch him next time you visit the park.
See iCan, in action below:
I shouldn’t be allowed alone on Space Ranger Spin…

Some new items found in The Emporium.

This kids Rey shirt is pretty adorable.
NEW SULLEY PLUSH!
There is a ton of new mugs for sale in The Emporium.

Small candy dishes from the Neverland Collection, $12.99 each.
Due to large crowds awaiting the nightly performance of Happily Ever After at the Magic Kingdom, Disney has adjusted the times for the Move It, Shake It, Dance and Play It Street Party. The new daily showtimes are as follows: These changes will affect the rest of this week, but it is possible that the popularity of the new fireworks spectacular will require further changes to the performance schedule. If you are in the Orlando area, you can tune in to 105.5 FM or AM 1520 WBZW at showtime. For those outside of the Orlando area, the show can be watched via video stream at listen.WDWNT.com on your computer or mobile device. You can also use WDWNT: The App to watch and chat along. The show also utilizes a live chat and the ability to call-in to interact with the show. WDW News Tonight is hosted by Tom Corless and Nick LoCicero, but also features appearances by a number of other WDWNT correspondents and announcer Michelle Wargo. Coming up on this week’s show: We hope that you will tune in tonight at 9PM ET for a very special episode of WDW News Tonight! If you missed last week’s show, be sure to watch it: Tonight marked the debut of the Magic Kingdom’s new nighttime spectacular “Happily Ever After”, which replaced the beloved Wishes show after a 13 year run. So, how was it? Getting straight to the point: I loved it. I felt the same way I felt when I saw Wishes 13 years ago. The show is a technical marvel that ties-in beloved Disney characters and music, modern and classic, with fantastic original arrangements and a theme song that will (I think) live on through the annals of Disney Parks history long after this show is gone. Fantasy in the Sky and Wishes have a more than suitable replacement which will be cherished as much once the nostalgia dies down over the weeks and months ahead. The inclusion of most of the animated film canon is tastefully done, never feeling forced. This show rips through a lot of IPs, but does so without taking the show into and out of too many songs. You may have not thought it would make sense to throw a mixture of Disney classics into a scene with music from just one, but it works here. Think of it as the bubble scene from Walt Disney World’s Fantasmic, but on steroids, and a copious amount. The show has so many jaw-dropping effects and such worth noting, but here’s what stuck with me: There are so many great scenes to talk about, but the “I Can Go the Distance” sequence might be my favorite in any fireworks show that I’ve ever seen, maybe even in any nighttime show. It emerges from the Villains portion so perfectly and is fantastically uplifting. It’s a great lead-in to the finale. I would name a few others that I liked, but I quickly realized that the list I created included every other sequence. I’m not kidding, I made a list and all of them were on it. I went through the show video to check, and somehow I remembered all of the scenes and enjoyed them all that much that they all made my list of what I enjoyed. If you forced me to pick a second favorite, my sentimental choice would be “Out There” from the Hunchback of Notre Dame. Disney Dreams may be gone from Paris, but this scene has made it stateside and was everything I dreamt it would be. The narrative of the show is not overstated, but I think resonates more strongly than Wishes. Now, please hear me out before you run to the comments section. Happily Ever After takes us from setting out on adventure, to finding friends and romance, to facing adversity, bringing yourself to the the triumph of learning that you can “go the distance” and “you can fly”, reaching your Happily Ever After. The show shares a theme of many recent Disney animated films: you can have your wishes come true in this world if you work hard enough. “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” Now, who said that? Having only seen the show from one vantage point, I don’t have any tips for viewing just yet, but I can tell you that there are a lot of unique and cool places you’ll likely want to see this from. Up close will give you a better view of projections and lighting effects, but standing farther back will allow you to take in the full scope of the spectacle (which you will see in the video below). I’ll let you know what I think after a few more viewings. I also need to see all the new lighting in the trees to the left and right sides of the Castle, because whatever was going on there at certain points in the show looked really neat. If Walt Disney World is the flagship of the Disney Parks, and the Magic Kingdom is the pinnacle park for the company, than this is the nighttime show it deserves. Taking what was learned from shows like Disneyland Forever, Disney Dreams, and others to combine so many high tech show elements, Happily Ever After is the next step in nighttime spectaculars and the new crown jewel of evening entertainment at Walt Disney World. It is a must see and will likely remain so for a long time to come. If there has been one part in particular about the new Happily Ever After nighttime spectacular that guests are most excited about in all of the lead up to the show’s premiere this evening, it has probably been the music. Well, now you can own the show’s theme song. A version of the theme sung by Jordan Fisher and Angie Keilhauer is now available for download (purchase) on iTunes. Some of this version of the song will appear in the new nighttime spectacular at the Magic Kingdom. Last night, many of the new effects and pyro for Happily Ever After at the Magic Kingdom were tested out for the very first time and were visible to guests around the Magic Kingdom resort area. If these photos are any indication, we are in for an amazing new nighttime spectacular… These photos show a lighting test, which at first looks similar to what we see in Once Upon a Time, but just wait until you see how they have amplified the effect… Mind you, these photos were taken from far outside of the park. Pretty amazing, huh? If you look closely at Cinderella Castle, you may even spot some stars created by lasers being projected onto the face of the classic icon. Our thanks to DisneyPhotoSnapper.com for permission to use these amazing photos. So, are you excited for Happily Ever After at the Magic Kingdom? Great news for non-Floridians! With less than 10 days until the ‘Happily Ever After’ Nighttime Spectacular debuts at the Magic Kingdom, Disney is trying to advertise for the show and hype people up as much as possible. Today, Disney has given us another look into this amazing show coming to the park. In today’s video, Imagineers show us how they prepared for this one of a kind show. Here is that video below from The Disney Parks Blog: Happily Ever After debuts at the Magic Kingdom on May 12th. Next week, “Wishes” will have its last performance at the Magic Kingdom on the evening of Thursday May 11th and “Happily Ever After” will debut the next night on May 12th. In order to accommodate larger crowd levels expected for the final/first shows, Disney is adding additional viewing areas for fireworks over the next few days. To accommodate the additional guests, Disney is opening up an a viewing area in the cast member parking lot located next to the Main Street bypass (behind Tomorrowland) on May 6th, 11th, 12th, and 13th. The backstage bypass between Main Street and Adventureland may also be opened to guests if the crowd levels are high enough.
