Create Your Story at Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party

The marketing for this year’s Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at the Magic Kingdom is themed to a storybook, as you can see in this interactive ad:

The Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party page on the Disney World website is also getting into the act with the same interactive storybook feature. I found myself enjoying the feature for quite a while, following different paths to find different surprises and performances from the Rusty Cutlass pirate band or the Dapper Dans. You can create a story for yourself at this link. Enjoy!!!

“Lights of Winter” at Epcot Officially Retired

The popular “Lights of Winter” holiday display at Epcot will not be returning this year. The Disney Parks twitter had the following to say about the change:

The Lights of Winter at Epcot has been enjoyed for years. But (technology) to operate the lights is obsolete, prompting us to retire the lights.

To replace the offering with something new, the Disney Parks Twitter then announced the following:

Debuting at this year’s Holidays Around the World at Epcot is a new gospel choir, “D’Vine Voices” – Nov. 27 through Dec. 26.

The dancing light arches of “Lights of Winter” have been a part of the “Holidays Around the World” program since it debuted in the early 1990’s, but the technology was easily surpassed a few years ago when the Osborne Family Lights at Disney’s Hollywood Studios began to dance to music every 15 minutes. This change comes on the heels of the 2008 departure of the tree lighting ceremony at Epcot. Expect the passage to World Showcase to be rather un-festive this year.

Tom Corless’ 11/7/09 World of Disney New York Report

As we countdown to the closure of the World of Disney New York store on 5th Avenue in New York City, I have been trying to get in as many visits as possible. On Saturday, I made a trip to the store to take part in the final Disney pin trading morning. Here are some photos I managed to take amid the insane crowds:

A Christmas Carol has filled the windows of the store

“A Totally Tomorrowland Christmas!” Confirmed

A recent Disney press release concerning Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party confirms that “A Totally Tomorrowland Christmas!” show is coming to the Magic Kingdom, at least on party nights:

Walt Disney World Resort unwraps a sleighful of entertainment offerings during Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party at Magic Kingdom on 19 select evenings beginning Nov. 10 – including a rockin’ new stage show to welcome the winter wonderland season.  “A Totally Tomorrowland Christmas!” features Stitch, Buzz Lightyear, Mike Wazowski and a jubilant cast of party-goers who discover the true meaning of the season during their annual Christmas party.  The interactive musical revue features “songs of the season” in the style of today’s hottest Radio Disney hits.
As previously reported, this show will use the new Tomorrowland stage formerly occupied by Stitch’s Supersonic Celebration.
What “songs of the season in the style of today’s hottest Radio Disney hits” actually means for the soundtrack of this new show is questionable. Does this mean that there will be holiday songs performed by Miley Cyrus and other Disney singers or will the music simply be “pop” versions of some classic holiday favorites?
It is also uncertain as to which, if any, characters will appear on stage and who will may appear on the screen above guests. There is a slight possibility of the living character technology being used in this show, but seeing as the description does not mention it, we are lead to believe that Mike Wazowski, Stitch, and Buzz Lightyear will be there in-person for each performance.
One final question we have is concerning performances of this show following the conclusion of the Christmas Parties. Since the now defunct “Mickey’s Twas the Night Before Christmas” show and all of the other entertainment from the party typically became a part of the Magic Kingdom’s regular entertainment schedule during the holiday weeks, will “A Totally Tomorrowland Christmas!” make the cut as well? Only time will tell.
Be sure to stay tuned to WDW News Today as we get more information on this upcoming Magic Kingdom holiday stage show.
