LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (March 2, 2017) – Miss Adventure Falls, a new family-friendly water attraction, will begin offering guests of all ages a high-seas journey on March 12 as part of an expansion at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.

Miss Adventure Falls brings to life the story of Captain Mary Oceaneer, a treasure-hunting heroine who got stranded with her pet parrot at Typhoon Lagoon years ago by a rogue storm.

In a first for a water attraction in Florida, guests will be transported in their treasure rafts to the top of the slide, passing by Mary’s wrecked ship where her parrot is talking alongside their treasures. From there, this white-water adventure will take them through twists, turns and dips where they will see deep-sea artifacts Captain Oceaneer collected on her many treasure hunts around the world.

With a ride time of two minutes, Miss Adventure Falls will be the longest attraction at Typhoon Lagoon.

Miss Adventure Falls is the latest in a variety of expansion projects across Walt Disney World Resort. Coming soon: Pandora – The World of Avatar, opens May 27 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom; a new indoor, multipurpose athletics facility at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in 2018; and a Star Wars-themed land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2019.

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon offers water activities suitable for all ages, including signature attractions such as Crush ‘n’ Gusher, a water-coaster that takes riders aboard inflatable rafts on a twisting, turning, up-and-down adventure; Ketchakiddee Creek, a water playground for children ages two to five (under four feet tall) and their parents; and Castaway Creek, where guests hop onto inner tubes for a meandering water tour through a misty rain forest and a hidden grotto.

Today, Miss Adventure Falls, a new family raft adventure, opened at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park.

The new attraction is located next door to Crush ‘N’ Gusher, replacing Shark Reef (even though it remains intact behind construction walls). While it is possible that Shark Reef will be replaced with another new addition in the future, this raft ride does not touch the land still occupied by the diving experience that closed last year.

Shark Reef is still there physically, just shuttered.

A reference to Shark Reef hides in the load area to Miss Adventure Falls.

The ride is 2 minutes long, which does include the lift hill portion. I would knock this, but it really is part of the ride as it includes a beautiful scene with an audio-animatronic bird and some other themed elements, which fit the story well. The ride itself is mostly just tubes and half-pipes, but there are a handful of themed set pieces that surround you. While I would have liked more to see here, it still delivers at a storytelling level far above most other attractions at the park. Would I have liked to see more rock work like on the older slides in Typhoon Lagoon? Sure. That being said, the wrecked ship and other ruins strewn throughout the ride are plenty good. The queue also fits well and has a couple of fun pieces to admire.

The ride is made to sit four people per raft, but don’t expect to put four adults in one raft. Two adults and two children can likely sit comfortably, but you may want to split up your party into groups of 2 or 3 if you can (or are allowed, depending how crowded it is).

I honestly loved Miss Adventure Falls. I saw a lot of social media responses saying that the ride looked boring or too tame, but it is supposed to be for families and people of all ages. The park already has Crush ‘N’ Gusher, which is a raft ride containing 3 completely separate paths, basically 3-hight-thrill rides in one. One could even argue that Crush ‘N’ Gusher is a little too intense (in fact, I got a fat lip today when we hit the pool at the bottom of the slide very hard). The park does not have something with rafts that is tamer for everyone visiting, and this fits the bill perfectly. It’s fun, it’s lengthy, it is well-themed, and it is more thrilling than it looks (without flying up and down hills). For thrill seekers, there is still also a selection of slides towards the back of the park as well. Miss Adventure Falls is a good mild thrill to fill out the park’s attraction portfolio.

The highly-anticipated new water ride at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon, Miss Adventure Falls, will be opening with the park on March 12th, 2017.

The final touches to the ride are being added this coming week. Down below is a look at one of the artifacts from the collection of Captain Mary Oceaneer, who is a sea-faring treasure hunter whose haul was caught in a rogue typhoon. Her character is part of the backstory behind the new ride, which includes ties to the Society of Adventurers and Explorers.

It’s just one of the precious treasures you will spot from your four-person raft, as you twist and turn on this fun-filled white-water experience. Stay tuned as more details are realesed in the coming days for this new attraction.

Miss Adventure Falls family raft ride at Typhoon Lagoon

Miss Adventure Falls is an all-new, family-raft attraction owned by Captain Mary Oceaneer—a sea-faring treasure hunter whose haul was caught in a rogue typhoon and scattered across this tropical paradise years ago. Mary Oceaneer is a member of the Society of Adventurers and Explorers, made famous in various attractions around the world including Mystic Manor, the Jungle Navigation Ltd. Skipper Canteen, and Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar, so the S.E.A. should tie-in in some fun ways in this new ride.

From your 4-person raft, feel a rush of excitement with family and friends as an aquatic conveyor belt chutes you into action. Then, hold on tight as you spy precious artifacts collected from all around the globe. If you’re lucky enough, you may even meet the captain’s old diving partner—an Audio-Animatronic parrot who’s still hunting for treasures at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park to this day.
