Park 5 Photoshoot

It has been a while since we released a Park series photoshoot. I found these Park 5 photos I had yet to publish. While most of these were taken by me around WDW, a few were taken by Zoe at Disneyland for us.I especially enjoy the Carousel of Progress photos. And the Haunted Mansion clock was special because a Cast Member allowed us inside the Servants Quarters to take some extra special photos.

Tree Trunk of Life

Here is a 360 turn around of the 9″ Park 5 Tree of Life Vinylmation. Check out the great detail:

Did you/will you pick up Tree of Life?

Fantasmic! …Behind the Scenes

Here is a look at the back of the 9″ Park 5 Sorcerer Mickey Vinylmation:

Fantasmic! first appeared in Disneyland in 1992, Disney’s Hollywood (then MGM) Studios in 1998 and is set to premier at Tokyo Disney later this Spring. The show is a little different at both parks and has a runtime of 22-26 minutes. I also just found out that EACH SHOW costs between $25,000-$30,000 a night!
Do you enjoy Fantasmic! (the attraction or the Vinylmation)

On this episode, Nick and MC review the recently released series, Nerds Rock! They also review the Park 5 9″s and the 3″ exclusive figures from Hong Kong’s 5th Anniversary. This week they added a regular Online Disney Store section, to keep listeners not in either Orange County up to date on what they can buy. We also answer a special question in the Mystery Mailbag section.

Goofy’s Back and Disneyland’s Retro

The official Disney Vinylmation Blog has just released a look at the backs of the 9″ Park 5 Goofy’s Barnstormer and Retro Disneyland figures. Here is our take:

Retro Disneyland
Artis: Monty Maldovan
LE: 800
Release Date: February 25th
Where: D-Street in Orlando and CA

I was on the fence about this one, mostly because I focus on WDW over DLR items, but…

The back of the head has a retro look at the DLR Castle
Tink is featured flying around on the back of the right ear
The iconic Tomorrowland Rocket Ship is on the back of the body
Goofy’s Barnstormer
Artis: Eric Caszatt
LE: 800
Release Date: February 25th
Where: D-Street in Orlando and CA
It’s funny how this became a tribute to a former Toon Town attraction. When it was designed, Goofy’s Barnstormer was not on it’s way to being re-themed as The Great Goofini.
Nice detail on the back of the head with the window and banner
Look closely, and you can see Goofy’s outline as he crashes through the barn

Tail Spin and more on February 25th!

Update: 2/22/11 The Tailspin set from the Disney Afternoons series release has been pushed back to March 4th. Check for it online then!

Big news from Disney today! The first 3″ Disney Afternoons combo pack featuring Tale Spin will be released as an online exclusive on February 25th. Also available the same day at D-Street in Orlando and CA will be the 9″ Park 5 Goofy’s Barnstomer and 9″ Retro Disneyland figures. Here is our take:

Tail Spin

We have been waiting awhile for the Disney Afternoons release, and Disney decided Tail Spin would lead the pack. First off, we get great, fun packaging here.

There are, however a few surprises. First is the Tail Spin release will be exclusive to the Disney Store Online. No word on if the full line of Disney Afternoon figures will be this way. Second, it is a Limited Edition size of only 1000 sets. The retail price is a nice $24.95. And third, its not coming out as a series… so we will see these releases sprinkled over time.
Kit
Baloo. One of my favorite Disney characters. They have done him well here. Love the cap.
Goofy’s Barnstormer
With Toon Town having closed forever on February 11th, Goofy’s Barnstormer is undergoing a theme change, so this figure will pay tribute to the old Toon Town. Here is what Goofy’s Barnstormer will soon become at the Magic Kingdom:
Retro Disneyland
This figure celebrates Disneyland. It is adorned with the the icons of Walt’s vision for Disneyland, mixed with that signature retro colored box theme they use in the logo.

We were getting worried, not having any release dates past this Friday’s Nerds Rock. What do you think about Disney not giving more advaced word about release dates like they used too? Leave your comments on that, Disney Afteroons, Goofy’s Barnstormer or Retro Disneyland below.

Figments of our Imagination

Now that we have the latest Vinylmations in hand and in pictures, we thought it would be interesting to compare the Figment from Park 1 to his latest edition as part of the Park 5 set.

Park 1 Fig Mouse by Maria Clapsis

Park 5 Tux Figment also by Maria Clapsis

Both are 3″ figures.

In the Park 1 he has on his original outfit, basically nothing but a shirt with his name on it, whereas, in the Park 5 set he has on a little tux with a top hat. (Very distinguished)

In the Park 5 figure, his nose and face are defined much better, even giving the illusion of a snout, but in the original Park 1 he’s just got a smile and eyes. (I think this is because the artist is more familiar with the medium.)

Not much else is radically different, although on the Park 5 Figment he’s got thumb nails and his wings are just a little smaller.

New 9″ Park 5 Figure Pics!

M.C. played detective and turned the Dreamfinder/Figment box around to snap these for us:

Here is an up close of the new Fantasia 9″
Let’s head over to Toon Town for a ride on Goofy’s Barnstomer.
Post your comments on what you think this 9″ Park 5 Vinylmation depicts.

Nerds Rock, Price Wackiness and Disney Store Online Update

A few news and notes about today…

Cupid “Love is Blind” 9″ Holiday 2 figure from Q. Kimbal is available at the Disney Store Online (as well as D-Street in ORL and CA). Grab it while you can… LE 450. Retail is $48.95. Beautiful detail on this piece.

Flags 12 figure open window figures are at the Disney Store Online. $9.95.

WDW 40th anniversary open window 6 figures are available at the Disney Store Online for $12.95. Odd story here. That was the price at D-Street Orlando, but under the sticker you could see there was a $16.95 price tag. Well, when the set was put up online this morning, it was selling for $16.95. They have since reduced it back down to $12.95. It’s a nice retro looking set, but 17 bucks would have been a bit much for these.

9″ and 3″ combo Urban 5 Racecar and Driver set BACK up for sale online. I just grabbed one for $74.95. There is a promo code for $5 shipping right now… SHIPFIFTY

A Trading Event at WDW was announced. March 18th from 6pm – 9pm at the Contemporary Resort. We will have more information on this as the date approaches, but mark your calendars now.

And some a new release date: February 18th!

Both Disneyland and WDW will see the release of 9″ Park 5 Fantasmic and 9″ Park 5 Tree of Life. Also, the much anticipated open window Nerds Rock series. Here is a look at the Chip, Dale and Donald figures, as well as some of the Nerds Rock Disney merchandise as a sneak peak at what the other figures could be.
