Disney’s Animal Kingdom is now offering a special cinnamon cream cheese mousse at a few counter service restaurants, just for the holiday season. This bright red dessert is coated in a red glaze, has chocolate cream cookie crumbles and apple-compote at its base and is topped with a green meringue kiss. You’ll find this mousse at Satu’li Canteen, Flame Tree Barbecue and Pizzafari.

It makes for a pretty picture.
Merry Christmas from Pandora, where I guess it’s always a blue Christmas…
So, how is it? It tastes like Christmas (kids, don’t try to eat decorations at home). There’s a subtle sweetness brought on from the glaze, which ends with a subdued cinnamon flavor that doesn’t linger, but is prominent enough to be the focal point of the dessert. Mixing the cookie and apple with each bite yields a fantastic mix, perfect for the holidays. Personally, we still enjoy the regular offering from Satuli more, but this is a nice diversion for the season (and better than any other dessert you’ll have at Flame Tree or Pizzafari).
Remember a few months ago when I positively reviewed Pizzafari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom? With a revamped menu and pizza-making-process, it seemed as if Disney was on the right track to fixing counter service pizza everywhere at the resort. Well, they undid all of that progress with a new menu over the weekend…

We decided to try the most interesting of the items from new menu, which was obviously the Cheeseburger Flatbread. We took a short video as we dug into the new offering, so watch the clip below to see what we thought…
Sad that the edible Pizzafari menu was replaced with this…
Cheeseburger Flatbread from Pizzafari
This was bad, unbelievably awful in fact. I would rather eat the now-retired Shrimp Alfredo from Village Haus in all honesty. The flavor was bad as noting on it blended together well, and there was way too much lettuce on it. The pickle flavor overwhelmed so much of it that it was like eating a pickle flatbread, not something meant to taste like a cheeseburger. Steer clear of this offering at all costs…
I would be embarrassed to put up my menu if it was that bad…
It has been a little while since we checked in on Animal Kingdom, which is probably because it has been the red-headed step-child of the Disney World parks this Summer, starting with such promise, but then careening into one of the worst Summer campaigns ever experienced in Orlando. September 5th brings the end of nighttime offerings at the park for a little while, but for just how long we do not know. However, work progresses slowly on AVATAR, Rivers of Light is still yet to get a debut date, but yet life goes on at the 4th gate of WDW. Let’s see what’s new and exciting at the park since our last visit…

Scaffolding has vanished from the floating mountains of Pandora, giving us a nice look at what should be a rather pleasant looking area.

A lot of foliage is going in, making it harder to see the area. Don’t worry, we will take to the skies above Pandora later this week to show you a better look.

Tree of Life trail
Work continues on the path behind the Tree of Life, the only project moving slower than AVATAR. Maybe we should put the beach-rock team on these projects? At least there is a fence now.

Expedition Everest Adventure Pack
I never noticed this Expedition Everest Adventure Pack for kids, which is kind of neat as each item has the Everest logo.

There’s not many attractions where you can just close the blinds to keep people from looking in, but this is one of them.

The Main Street Electrical Parade made it in, as did an image from Star Wars Weekends, both discontinued heading into 2017.
Internal Disney documents confirmed this week that there is “work to add table service restaurant to Pizzafari” ongoing.
Pizzafari is a counter service restaurant that has operated at Animal Kingdom since opening day, a fairly large counter service restaurant that often has trouble filling all of the gorgeously themed seating space it has. In fact, during the early 2000’s, a back portion of the restaurant was used as an annual passholder lounge. These days, the restaurant offers a fairly standard menu with fast-food pizza and a chicken Caesar salad, as well as a pretty lackluster breakfast.
The information so far is unclear as to how the table service restaurant will work… will it be an extension in the back of the restaurant, or will the restaurant be a hybrid much like Be Our Guest Restaurant at the Magic Kingdom? either is possible. We’ll have to wait to find out more.
The project is part of a larger expansion of the park which includes two new sections of Harambe, Africa, the Rivers of Light nighttime show, new nighttime entertainment, a nighttime version of Kilimanjaro Safaris, and the AVATAR themed land. Changes to Pizzafari now add to a rather large dining overhaul happening at the park currently, with a remodeling of Flame Tree Barbecue, the closure of Creature Comforts to become a Starbucks location, and the opening of the Harambe Marketplace counter service location in 2015.
