Holiday 3 Valentine’s Day 9″ Release Date

Update: Here is the back and side.

The back is similar to the front. More hearts and doilies.
The side has a heart and you can see the To/From tag and string like it’s tied around the ear.

Disney announced a January 20th release date for the next 9″ Holiday 3 figure. It is Valentine’s Day themed with an LE of 1200 and a price tag of $44.95. No artist given. Lisa Badeen is the artist.

It’s almost like a Valentine’s Day card with the “Be My Valentine” inscription and doilies all around. And the left ear has a hear with an arrow through it. I’d like to see the back have another inscription or even a place to write your own note to your sweetheart. What do you think about that? Until next time, XOXO, DV.

D-Street’s been bricked

On Friday the “brick” white 9″ Create Your Own Vinylmation hit D-Streets.

What do you think of this design? Do you want more “patterns” from CYOs? The price is $42.95. Are you going to pick this up?

Ring in the Holidays on December 9th with Holiday 3 and more!

It looks like Disney sneaked another couple of release dates into their events page (We checked last night while doing the podcast and they weren’t there!).

On December 9th, 2011 both D-Streets will be releasing several new vinylmation.
First, the 12 piece Holiday 3 set will be released. Check out more info on that at “Holiday 3 Explained“. They should be $9.95 each.

Second, the first 9″ Urban 8 figure will be released. It is the Sock Monkey we saw back at The Florida Project. The piece is by Paola Gutierrez and is a LE of 800. It will cost $44.95. (This is an increase from the $39.95 price we were quoted at The Florida Project.)

Third, the site says, “Urban #8 – 9-inch plus 3-inch figure set by Caley Hicks (Edition Size: 1,000 / Retail: $74.95)”. We think this is a typo and may refer to the 9″/3″ Urban 7 Caley Hicks’ piece, OJ and Milk. Info at “Urban 7 9″ Explained“. But that piece was only going to be sold at the Online store, so maybe this is a new piece we haven’t seen….

He’s a Brick! Vinylmation. He’s Mighty Mighty.

We saw a hint of this at the trade show a few weeks back, but Disney is not officially offering the “Brick Pattern” 9″ figure for custom artists to work with. It will retail for $42.95.

Notice that it still retains the nose and the buttons from the “old mold” design.

What do you guys think? Is this cool, or just odd? Helpful? Will this be the first in a series of this type of create you own?? Let us know!

Nutcracker 9″/3″ Dancing it’s way onto the Online Store Tomorrow!

Tomorrow, disneystore.com should have the 9″/3″ Holiday 3 Nutcracker Suite set up for sale.

The artist is 3 time DeeVee winner Maria Clapsis and according to the vinylmation.com blog the LE will be 1200. (At D23 they said there would only be 1000.) The price will be $74.95.

The 9″ Rat King will also come with a 3″ Nutcracker.

There better be something cool on the back, because this 9″ has a ton of empty space for $40-$45 price tag that it will have. Maybe an autograph piece for TV stars? We knew this was coming based on the previously released Ear Hat, 3″, Jr combo.

Monster

This guy looks great. I’m a sucker for using the nose as a chin. The huge feet and talons are cool too. Before I knew there would be so many, I bought the Snow Monster 9/3 from Park 3. But I have to be so much more selective now. This would have made the cut a year ago, but not today.

The 9″ looks brilliant. Vibrant gold color. This is King Tut in a sarcophagus. And this continues the addition of some great accessories to 9″ figures.

Alice 9″ LE Vinylmation

Update: 11/4/11 We have confirmation by Zoe from artist Thomas Scott about the LE 9″ Alice set (thank you commenters below as well). It will be a 9″ Crying Alice, Jr Happy Alice, Jr Drink Me Bottle and Jr Eat Me Cookie. After seeing the the 12 figure 3″ inch set designed by Thomas, this is sure to be a beautiful LE combo. No work on edition size, but Thomas did say to look for it in the Spring of 2012.

Today the vinylmation.com blog posted the box for the Alice in Wonderland LE 9″ combos. One is the Carpenter and the Walrus, which we knew from the Florida Project. The other looks to be an Alice 9″.
There also appear to be three Jr’s in this set, with one of them looking strangely like Alice herself. Is this a 9″/Jr set with 2 extra Jrs? It makes some sense, as Alice grows and shrinks on her way thru Wonderland. I might just love this one!

D23 Vinylmation Preview: 9″ Urban 7

A few upcoming 9″ Urban 7 figures were shown off at D23 on Friday. Here is a look.

This 9″ King Tut is part of a 9/3 combo. It will retail for $74.95 and is LE 1500.

The 3″ King Tut is a depiction from outside the sarcophagus. This combo will release in November.

Disney calls this 9″ figure “Monster”. We saw this in Jumbo pin form earlier in the year.

This is another figure we saw coming, 9″ Color Bar. We inferred this released based on the 3″, Jr., Ear Hat combo released earlier this year.

Kermit will be back online soon

Disney informed us today that they have taken some of the D-Street stores stock of 9″ Muppets 2 3-D Kermits and are going to open them up for release on the online store. The online store had sold out of the Kermits on the day they were released. The new online release for the extra Kermits is August 19th, the same day as the Gonzo and Camilla 9″/3″ is released.

“I Call the Big One Bitey”

Ok, so I quoted Homer Simpson before Mr. Disney… but come on! That episode was hilarious.

The Disneyland Monorail was the first transportation system of its kind in America. It was based on a system built by the Alweg company and discovered by Walt Disney while traveling in Germany. It first appeared in Disneyland Park in 1959 with its “Googie” architecture, a space age look that was enormously popular during the 1950s. The Monorail celebrated its 50th anniversary on June 14, 2009! – Disney’s Official Disneyland Website

The fifth and final Disneyland 55th Anniversary 9″ Attraction Poster figure will be out exclusively in Disneyland on Friday, August 26. The Monorail, like the DL posters before is designed by Alex Maher and is limited to only 550 pieces. It will retail for $44.95.

In 1957, Walt Disney first saw the monorails that a German company, Alweg was developing. On June 14, 1959, the Disneyland Alweg Monorail System was dedicated with a ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Vice President Richard M. Nixon. It was the first Monorail in the US, and Walt Disney believed it was the future of urban transportation. The Disneyland monorail began as a sightseeing tour above Disneyland, but quickly expanded its purpose to serve Disney hotels and today, stops at the Downtown Disney District.
This Vinylmation, Disney admits, took some time in development as the wrapping of the design took longer than expected. I see what they mean. Take a look at the poster below and picture the many different ways this figure could have worked.
You really have to expand the poster to a 3D image in your mind and follow it around the Vinylmation’s body. Artist Alex Maher could have just slapped the 2D poster image on the front and put the words or a mirror image on the back. But he instead gave the poster a 3D feel were the monorail wraps around the side. I’m sure the Matterhorn and the Tomorrowland Rocket proved difficult to place. In the poster they are both flat and off in the distance. But Alex took the approach that this is a 3D image, frozen in time. And took a different “camera angle” on the scene. Think those 360 camera shots they show in football games. So by moving the angle slightly and wrapping it, he is able to position the landmarks in a way that makes sense. The words on top, were put into the face and words on bottom (which changed over the years) where stuck on the back of the head.
Upon first look, this figure wasn’t impressive, but like the It’s a Small World ride, I am more impressed knowing what went into the design… and it became a favorite.
So what are your thoughts? The entire set is out. Do you like the 5 piece Disneyland Attraction Poster set? Which one is your favorite? Leave your comments below.
