The-Force-Awakens

Today EW.com received and exclusive reveal of some of the new characters that were seen in the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” trailer. J.J. Abrams, the film’s co-writer and director, and Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm, decided to reveal the identities of some of their new characters exclusively to EW—and they did it in a retro fashion that should bring a smile to anyone familiar with the phrase “Collect ‘Em, Trade ‘Em.” EW was presented with a mocked up version of the original Topps Star Wars trading cards that debuted in 1977.

Here are the cards revealed in card number order, which according to J. J. Abrams, the numbering of these cards bears significance:

Card #11: “BB-8 on the move!”

Breaking Down The “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” Teaser Trailer

fhm9ckhmlttnuvuglcfjFan Art by Phil Noto

Like many, I have watched the Star Wars: The Force Awakens teaser trailer several times. I finally had the chance to go through it frame by frame to catch things that were hard to see during the first viewing. Let’s get right to it.

collagesww

No company logos. I can understand the missing Walt Disney Pictures company logo, but was surprised not to seed the Lucasfilm Ltd. logo. Not that this is a major omission, especially this being a teaser, but still was expecting it. I know this sounds crazy but one thing I keep thinking of is how the opening credits will appear. I would say that the 20th Century Fox Fanfare music is synonymous with all Star Wars films. That will definitely be gone for The Force Awakens, but will Disney add their own company logo to the new films? There definitely is a part of me that thinks they should so that people will associate Star Wars with Disney. Disney has been producing Marvel films for a while now and not once do you see the Disney company logo before any of the films, just Marvel. I have spoken to several friends and after seeing the Marvel movies, they had no idea that they were produced by Disney. Some didn’t even know that Disney owns Marvel. I don’t want to see this happen with Star Wars. So hopefully when we get the first official trailer, not teaser, we will see some form of Disney logo.

LgAxzY7

This is the first image that we see in the teaser. It is a desert for sure, but is it a desert planet? Is it Tatooine or a new planet? Tatooine has played a major role in the Star Wars saga films. It is the home planet of Anakin and Luke Skywalker as well as the home for Obi-Wan Kenobi after the rise of the Empire.

This is our first look at John Boyega, who is said to have a major role in the film. Before the teaser was released, I heard months before that Boyega was playing a Stormtrooper, so for me, this was no surprise seeing him in uniform. He does appear startled over some kind of event that is happening off camera that we can’t see. Was he abandoned by the rest of the team of Stormtroopers he was with?  Is he really a Stormtrooper or just in disguise?

collagedewexw

I had to mention this because I always got a kick out of this. When my friend first saw Star Wars as a kid, he was convinced that the Stormtroopers were all robots because on their backs they had a huge sign that read “Oil”. Still can’t look at the back of a Stormtrooper without thinking of that. You can see in the comparison photos that the Stormtrooper uniform is redesigned. And yes, the oil sign is still there but now the “o” has a grey oil cap, so it makes it easier to know where to pour the can of oil in. 🙂

This is apparently the new droid that accompanies Daisy Ridley’s character. My first reaction to this was a computer track ball. This also looks like it could be designed by Apple as the new i-Droid. I also can’t help seeing a soccer ball with R2’s head on it. As great as R2D2 was in all of the movies, he always seemed to take his time. R2 was always the last one on the ship, while the rest of the crew was ruining for their lives. You can’t blame him though since it was do to the limitations of his design. You definitely can’t say this about this R2 unit. Without a doubt, he moves very fast and maybe this will somehow play during one of the escape scenes. In the background you can see some old engine parts. Hope no one is building a Pod Racer.

Stormtroopers! These helmets also match the leaked photos that we reported about months ago. One thing that most people are noticing is the difference in height with the Stormtroopers. What this means is that there are no more Clones! I never liked the idea of all of the Stormtroopers looking the same under their uniforms and having the same voice. Why are the Clones gone? Because they probablly all died or got old and the Empire never renewed their contracts with the Kiminos. Thankfully all of the Stormtroopers in this movie are recruits.

collagefewffew

The Stormtrooper’s blaster definitely went through a new redesign. Most of the exterior is painted white now, which makes sense. Also the scope is different and there is a digital readout to make it appear more high-tech.

The character that actress Daisy Ridley is rumored to play is Kira. According to rumors, Kira lives on a desert planet and survives by her wits. She lives in the belly of a downed AT-AT and it appears through concept art that the Force is strong in her. The goggles that she is wearing on her head seem to be refitted from a Stormtrooper’s helmet.

yzNyPxz

When I first saw this image, I immediately thought of a USB Flash Drive. In the teaser, it sounds very much like a speeder bike. It even looks like she is sitting on a speeder bike. This may be a vehicle that she creates using various parts of different vehicles. If you notice, the laser rifle that she had in the previous photo is missing from this image.

collagedfsfcsddf

I love these new Rebel helmets. Just looks sleeker and has some red, black and grey added in there which gives it a new kind of flavor to it. The red Rebel insignia is still on the helmet and also on the vest. New microphones, no chinstrap and a slightly smaller visor. The uniform colors look very similar and seem to be just slightly altered. The Rebel in the above photo is played by actor Oscar Isaac.

bggTHbl

New X-Wing fighters! They look similar to the old X-Wings but the S-foils open differently now. If you look at the wings on the top, they come out towards the back and the wings on the bottom come out from the front. When they are not in attack mode, it appears that they form one wing when locked. This also looks like a snow covered planet. It could be Hoth, but more than likely will be a new planet.

This is the most controversial image from the new trailer. People are not liking the new lightsaber design. This is obvious a Sith do to the color of the red blade but what are those mini-blades coming out of the sides of the lightsaber? This does look like your classic sword and they possibly are their to protect your hand from being struck by your opponents blade. It’s just not very practical. I think it could do more damage to the person wielding the lightsaber. One thing that I noticed is that there is something different about the blade. It looks like their is some kind of power surge or maybe even flames flowing through it. The old lightsabers were solid and didn’t display anything like this. I heard someone mention that maybe the blades on the sides are a form of exhaust. Not sure about that one. I still like it and have a feeling that we will find out in the movie that the new blades do have some form of purpose. So who is this Sith? Most people believe it to be actor Adam Driver. I am sure that Adam Driver is not the only Sith because there are always at least two.  A Master and an Apprentice. But who is the Master? Check out my article I wrote a few months back, just be warned, it is spoiler heavy but also very much speculation.

ayotatE

Definitely the money shot. I’ve waited 30 years to see this bucket of bolts being shown in flight again. This is part of the teaser where we hear the classic John Williams Star Wars theme and get our first glimpse of the Millennium Falcon doing some incredible acrobatics and attacking a pair of TIE Fighters. More than likely this is the same planet that appeared in the opening shot of the teaser. It’s hard to tell how much of a redesign the Tie Fighters went through since the move so quickly through the frames. They look great as does the Falcon.

collagewefewfeef

One thing that I immediately looked for was if the circular radar dish that Lando knocked off in the attack of the second Death Star was back. Nope. It is replaced by a rectangular dish, which I kind of like the idea that it is different. It has to be hard to come by exact parts for the Falcon, so it makes sense that they replaced it with something else, probably more high-tech.

vOjBldt

J.J. Abrams’ lens flare! Most people were worried that Abrams would go crazy with the lens flare effect like he has in his Star Trek films. That I only saw one use of lens flare is a good sign. I think it was used well in this shot because from that point of view it makes it look more realistic.

There has been an awakening. Have you felt it?

The Dark Side….and The Light.

The voice over. I was convinced that this was Benedict Cumerbatch but it now sounds like that this may be Andy Serkis. So what can we take away from these three little sentences?

  • This movie takes place 30 years after Return Of The Jedi and according to the voice over, The Force has been dormant but there are signs that now it is back.
  • He asks, “Have you felt it?” This means he is talking to another person who should also feel the presence of The Force. Only Jedi and Sith would feel the presence of The Force.
  • He mentions, “The Dark Side….and The Light.” So yes, the Dark Side has reawakened, but so has the Light. That means to me, two awakenings. The narrator does have a deep dark sounding voice and more than likely he is a Sith but that he pauses and mentions The Light makes it seem possible that maybe he isn’t a Sith.

That is all that I came away with but wanted to leave you with this fantastic fan made teaser trailer that asks the question, “What if George Lucas got his hands on the trailer?” Enjoy!

Rumor: Possible Storyline For “Star Wars” Spin-off Movie Between Episodes 7 & 8

empire-strikes-back-darth-vader-bounty-hunters-poster

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (aka Episode VII) will be released on December 18th, 2015. Unfortunately, Star Wars fans will have to wait another two years until the sequel, Episode VIII, is released in 2017. The good news for Star Wars fans is that there will be another Star Wars movie released in between Episode VII and VIII in 2016. The only facts that we currently know is that it is a Star Wars spin-off movie and that it will be directed by Gareth Edwards (Godzilla). Today /Film.com heard from their sources what the possible plot of the spin-off may be and it sounds a lot more intriguing then I could have ever imagined.

starwarsep4unfixed20dea

According to the /Film, the Star Wars spin-off movie is about a group of people out to pull off the ultimate heist, the theft of the first Death Star plans. That really sounds like a great idea because most fans would like to know exactly how did those plans make it’s way to Princess Leia before she downloaded it into R2-D2. The story gets even better: instead of the Rebel Alliance, it could be a group of Bounty Hunters that is hired to pull of the heist.

BountyHunters

This could bring in all of the Bounty Hunters that we first saw on Darth Vader’s Star Destroyer in The Empire Strikes Back, including Boba Fett. The style of the movie is said to be similar to The Magnificent Seven or maybe The Ocean’s Eleven movies, but taking place in the Star Wars universe.

The opening crawl of A New Hope says the following:

crawl-04-anh

Bounty Hunters go where the money is and I can see the Rebel Alliance hiring a bunch of Bounty Hunters to steal the Death Star plans from the Empire. That sounds more interesting than to have some heroes go in and take them.

It is also mentioned that the Millennium Falcon is in the movie and that the main character of this movie will be introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. With the Millennium Falcon being in the movie it makes you wonder, how did they get it? Han Solo will not be in this movie but Han was not the original owner of the Falcon, Lando was. And the mission can include a good guy or two. Maybe Lando? As for the character that first appears in The Force Awakens, they imply it may be Max Von Sydow’s character. At first I though Max Von Sydow’s character was a Commander for the Empire or maybe even a Sith. He did play Ming The Merciless in Flash Gordon, but then again, he also played Jesus in The Greatest Story Ever Told, but lately there has been a lot of talk that his character is working with Daisy Ridley’s character and may be some kind of cyborg.

Leaked concept art shows us a character that kind of looks like Van Sydow:

efeda68b30dcc47aad1f863f4385aa27

This plot has not been confirmed but multiple reliable sources have stated that this is possible and may have some truth to it. I guess only time will tell but I would love to see something like this come to fruition.

12/4/14 Marvel News Mash-Up (Vision, Full-Length Star Wars Trailer with Avengers?, Darth Vader Coming)

First Good Look At “Vision” From “Avengers: Age Of Ultron”

collageewdccwcwec

A picture of a promotional movie poster has leaked online for Avengers: Age Of Ultron and we get out first good look at Vision as one of the new team members. I definitely couldn’t be happier because they made the look of Vision very faithful to the comics. Growing up, Vision was always my favorite member of the Avengers and I’m so glad that he will be in the movie and that he looks great. Also glad to see Captain America finally wearing a good costume and that his ears are finally showing (maybe lose the chin strap or paint it blue).

Here is a photo of Vision concept art that leaked months ago and it matches the movie poster:

First Official Trailer (Not Teaser) For “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” To Appear Before “Avengers: Age Of Ultron”

collagesdfdsfsdfdsf

By now, most people have seen the teaser trailer for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. And as awesome as that teaser was, it didn’t reveal much of the plot. Teasers are just that, they tease us and just give us quick flashes of a movie. A trailer on the other hand is usually 2 minutes or more and gives us some idea of the plot and what to expect from the movie. According to /Film.com, they were informed that the first official trailer for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” will be attached to the movie, “Avengers: Age Of Ultron” on May 1st, 2015. Age Of Ultron will be Disney’s second larges film of that year and it makes sense to introduce Disney’s largest film of that year, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”. Cross promotion marketing working at it’s best!

“Avengers: Age Of Ultron” Set To Have Stars Return For Re-shoots

avengers-age-of-ultron-costumes1

Even though filming for Avengers: Age Of Ultron completed months ago, some of the stars are being asked back to film some re-shoots in London early next year. According to DailyMail.com, Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Paul Bettany (The Vision), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) and Tom Hiddleston (bad-guy Loki) have all been asked to make themselves available over a two-week period in January to film additional scenes at Pinewood Studios. Interesting that Chris Evans (Captain America) is not on the list. Total speculation on my part, but it could mean that maybe they are filming additional scenes to introduce one of these two characters (I can dream, can’t I?):

Preview Art For Marvel’s New Star Wars Series “Darth Vader”

star-wars-darth-vader-1-alex-ross-674x1024The cover above is from my all time favorite artist, Alex Ross. It’ really great to see him doing so many Star Wars covers lately. 🙂

Dark Horse Comics had been publishing Star Wars comic books since the 80’s and they have done an excellent job with the franchise. Many Star Wars fans, myself included, were worried when Marvel got the rights back to the Star Wars comic book franchise that it wouldn’t match the quality of what Dark Horse Comics had done. But looking at this preview, I would say they are on the right track.

Marvel.com recently provided an exclusive preview of the upcoming Darth Vader series.

Ever since Darth Vader made his first on-screen appearance, he became the one of the most popular villains to ever haunt an audience’s dreams! Now, follow Vader straight from the ending of “Star Wars: A New Hope” (and the pages of the new STAR WARS comic book) into his own series, showing the Empire’s war with the Rebel Alliance from the other side! Writer Kieron Gillen and artist Salvador Larroca bring us a peek behind the mask of evil!

Emily Blunt Talks About Fan Interest In Her Playing “Captain Marvel”

blunt-marvel

Even before the movie Captain Marvel was announced, many comic book fans had their top actress picks to play the character. One actress I thought of, especially after seeing Edge Of Tomorrow, was Emily Blunt. What not to many people know is that Emily Blunt has been courted by Marvel several times to be in a superhero movie. She was the first choice to play Peggy Carter in Captain America and was also the first choice to play Black Widow. Maybe the third time is a charm.

BT84m6i

Recently during an interview with Screen Crush Blunt was asked about playing Captain Marvel:

SC: Are you aware of the Internet buzz surrounding you playing Captain Marvel?

EB: Somebody told me about it this morning! I knew because my brother told me.

SC: People want you to play Captain Marvel.

EB: Which is kind of amazing. What’s she like, though? I don’t know anything about her. What’s it like, this character?

SC: She’s great. She’s witty and strong. That’s why people keep bringing your name up. They don’t want a boring actor. A lot of personality.

EB: Oh, cool.  They call it fan casting?

SC: Yes.

EB: Which is lovely. It’s my favorite kind of casting! I wish it was always like that.

SC: Maybe they can make ‘Captain Marvel’ a musical now that you’ve done ‘Into the Woods.’EB: [Laughs] ‘Captain Musical Marvel.’ Let’s just call Marvel about that right now. We’ll call Kevin Feige about that. “Kevin Feige, we have one hell of an idea.” Yeah.

SC: But in seriousness, it does appeal to you?EB: I think, it’s always for me, it’s always about—and now, more so—what am I putting out there? What would be interesting for me and what would be interesting for people to see. So, if it’s an awesome part, it doesn’t matter if it’s a Marvel movie or a tiny movie, I’d be up for it.

SC: You’d be a hero for every 10-year-old girl out there right now. There’s no Marvel female superhero who has her own movie yet.

EB: Really? That’s huge. How awesome. I love this. No one has actually called me about it, so, we’ll hold our breath. [Laughs] I don’t know if I’ll get the call ever if I pitch it should be a musical.

That’s it for this week!

Possible Spoilers of The Teaser Trailer For “Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens”

www.epicstream.com

According to Badassdigest.com, the teaser trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is completed and it is possible that we may see it even sooner than originally expected. As I have previously mentioned, don’t expect much. People are saying it is a minute long, tops. The representatives from Badassdigest.com say to take all of this with a grain of salt, but the sources for this teaser description have been very reliable in the past. Stay tuned, but it does appear that we will be seeing something within the next 4 or 5 weeks.

Here is the (possible) description of the upcoming teaser trailer:

It’ll be short. And when I say short, I mean one minute long. It’s going to have The Force Theme played on woodwinds, softly, over flashing images of the main leads, each fading to black. There’s no dialogue, just reveals of the characters. And then the music swells up into a full orchestral piece – perhaps what John Williams recorded this weekend? – and we hear a female voice, likely Daisy Ridley’s, saying “Wake up.” And then the title card appears – Star Wars: The Force Awakens – and we see the Millennium Falcon, firing blasters, coming right at the camera.

Also, Anthony Daniels, who has played C3PO in all of the Star Wars movies, recently tweeted this about Star Wars: The Force Awakens:

Twitter-Anthony-Daniels-star-warsI agree with Daniels and have always felt that The Empire Strikes Back was a better movie than A New Hope. I usually go back and forth between Empire and The Godfather Part 2 as to which is the best sequel of all time. To me, those are very encouraging words from Anthony Daniels, especially since he has been in every film. Also, he never said anything like that in regards to the Prequels, but then again Twitter didn’t exist back then. 🙂

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is the first chapter of a new trilogy that takes place 30 years after Return Of The Jedi. The movie is being directed by J. J. Abrams and will reunite the original cast as well as new cast members to continue the Star Wars saga. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is scheduled to be released domestically on December 18th, 2015.

VIDEO: Comic Con 2015 – Behind The Scenes Of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”

Star Wars The Force Awakens

This special behind the scenes video of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” was shown to the fans at the Star Wars Panel at Comic Con. It’s great to see that so much focus has been made on incorporating practical effects and not just relying on CGI.

Fans at San Diego Comic-Con’s Hall H were treated to a special look behind the scenes of Star Wars:The Force Awakens by director J.J. Abrams, producer and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy and writer Lawrence Kasdan. The filmmakers were joined on stage by cast members Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford to the surprise and delight of fans.

At the end of the Hall H presentation, the entire Hall H audience of more than 6,000 fans were all invited to continue the celebration and join cast and filmmakers at a surprise Star Wars Fan Concert. The San Diego Symphony performed the classic Star Wars music from John Williams at the Embarcadero Marina Park South.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is in theaters December 18th, 2015!
