On February 1st, 2017, Oriental Land Co. released more information on the many events and entertainment coming to the Tokyo Disney Resort in the year of 2017. Many of the events announced are regular seasonal events.  “Disney’s Easter”, “Tanabata Days”, “Disney Natsu Matsuri”, “Disney’s Halloween” being a few.

Some exciting new additions have been made to the many things that go on in Tokyo Disney Resort. These include “Disney Pirates Summer” and a Pixar themed event, a new show,  and additions to the Electrical Parade will premiere this year.

Here is some additional information on the brand new fun coming to Tokyo Disney Resort in 2017!

During summer of 2017, this exciting new Pirates of the Caribean event will be making its debut at Tokyo DisneySea. Captain Jack Sparrow himself, along with many other pirates, will be in their very own show on Mediterranean Harbour. Following a recent trend in the Tokyo Disney Parks, and will have tons of water spraying and splashing, letting the guests get wet and cool off during the hot Japanese summer. There will also be a crew of pirates providing atmospheric entertainment. Along with this summertime event comes new merchandise, food, and decor that will revamp Tokyo DisneySea into the world of Pirates of the Caribean. This event will also be making their way into Tokyo Disneyland as well, where there will be extra decor and atmospheric performances close by the Pirates of the Caribean attraction. With the next movie, Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, premiering on July 1st, 2017, this event is perfectly timed.

Pixar Event

There hasn’t been much information released about this event yet, but we do know that it’ll be a brand new Pixar-themed event at Tokyo DisneySea starring oodles of the most popular Pixar characters we know and love. This event will consist of shows, meet and greets, along with lots of special merchandise and food!

Additions to “Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade: Dreamlights”

A renewed version of the “Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade: Dreamlights” will be hitting the hub on July 11th, 2017. This renewed version is set to include 5 new floats. The first being Anna and Elsa’s Ice Castle, which will presumably be very similar, if not the same as the one in Paint the Night. Cinderella will also be getting a little more love with two new floats which will be Cinderella’s Pumpkin Coach as well as the grand ballroom with Prince Charming by her side. The much missed Beauty and the Beast float will be making a comeback after it’s departure after the 2011 renovation of the parade. The existing floats will be getting upgraded LED lights, so the whole parade will be getting a little bit of added oomph.

Tokyo Disney Announces Huge Expansion Plans for Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea

The Oriental Land Company announced earlier today plans to invest 500 billion yen (approx. $4.5 billion USD) in the next 10 years for the development and expansion of Tokyo Disneyland’s Fantasyland and the addition of a new themed port at Tokyo DisneySea.

The plan for redevelopment in TDL revolves around Fantasyland which will be nearly doubled in size when completed. In addition to the renovation of the already existing Fantasyland, new major attractions, shops and restaurants will be added. Work has already begun on this project, which includes renovation of the already existing infrastructure.

Here’s some information we already know in regard to the Fantasyland expansion at Tokyo Disneyland:

  • Grand Circuit Raceway and Star Jets are being removed from Tomorrowland
  • it’s a small world will be remodeled and moved to the east portion of Fantasyland in the space currently occupied by  Grand Circuit Raceway
  • Dumbo is being moved and reimagined to look like its Magic Kingdom counterpart (albeit a single version instead of the double)
  • Frozen will not be coming to Fantasyland; instead, it will make its way over to Tokyo DisneySea
  • The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Tangled, Dumbo and Alice in Wonderland will all be playing a key role in the redevelopment of Fantasyland
  • The original Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty meet and greets that were removed from early plans for Florida’s New Fantasyland appear to be included in Tokyo Disneyland’s Fantasyland
  • Alice in Wonderland plans that were rejected for Walt Disney World will find home in Tokyo Disneyland and will be the centerpiece of the Fantasyland expansion (we posted some of this artwork back in 2012, check it out here)
  • The expansion of Tokyo Disneyland’s Fantasyland will take its cue from New Fantasyland at the Magic Kingdom in that it will include water features and heavy foresting

Over at Tokyo DisneySea, plans are underway for the addition of a new themed port of call located near the existing Lost River Delta port. The new port of call will include major new attractions, shops and restaurants as well. No details have been released regarding the theming of this port of call, but sources point to an Arendelle Frozen theme.

TokyoDisneyDevelopment

In addition to these huge undertakings, the press release also mentions that OLC will further invest in the two Parks in multiple ways:

  • renovation or creation of attractions and entertainment programs
  • development of hardware that will enhance the guest experience in the Parks (MyMagic+/FastPass+ possibly?)
  • further improvement of restaurants
  • easing of congestion
  • development of measures to protect guests from hot and cold weather
  • other ways of to make a more comfortable environment for all guests
  • strengthening the theme parks’ “backstage” support functions and operational base
  • raising the level of hospitality provided by Cast Members by strengthening human resources development and raising employee satisfaction

Jungle Cruise Skippers Ship Out to Tokyo

Here’s more information and background on the two Jungle Cruise skippers heading to Tokyo Disneyland according to the OC Register’s Around Disney blog:

Kevin Lively and Mickey Wright are two wisecracking men who take their craft seriously –- so much so that they’ve been vetted by Disney executives to represent the Anaheim operation at a Tokyo summit.

This professional conference –- Friday through March 6 –- will be a lot more entertaining than most.

Disneyland is sending Lively and Wright, two of its Jungle Cruise skippers, to Tokyo for a nine-day round-table forum on “jungle humor” with skippers from three other Disney theme parks.

The Jungle  Cruise, of course, takes passengers in a boat around a winding, vegetation-shrouded river filled with animatronic jungle animals and spear-wielding residents. The skipper spouts off a continuous stream of corny jokes.

“You can’t lose with cannibalism,” Lively said on picking the right note of humor for the ride. “I like when we have kids on board, because to them, the ride is 100-percent real.”

Lively, 23, of Fullerton has worked at the park since summer 2007. He said he likes working with kids — he helped direct childrens theater in college.

Wright, 58, of Lake Forest started in November 2007 after he got hired at a Disney job fair. Though he said his friends figured he’d be a natural when they found out he got the job, Wright struggled with the script at first.

“The truth is, I actually had a hard time with the spiel,” he said. “I have a little ADD and all the distractions were hard to deal with.”

He’s a pro, now though, as evidenced by his selection for the Tokyo visit.

In Tokyo, skippers from Disneyland, the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, the Tokyo Disney Resort and Hong Kong Disneyland will tour the park there and trade tips on the best spiels and practices for running the Jungle Cruise.

The trip is part of a promotion by the company that operates Tokyo Disney — it’s the 25th anniversary of that park. The company decided to fulfill 25 employees’ wishes this year. This conference is a result of Kenichi Ito, a supervisor for the Tokyo Jungle Cruise.

The competition began in January from among the 60 skippers. Feb. 6, the six finalists had to do their act before a panel of execs, including Pixar chief John Lasseter and Imagineering chief Tony Baxter.

The majority of the skippers speak English, but a translator will be available for those who don’t. Also, the skippers will get to experience the Tokyo Disney Ride in Mandarin, Cantonese and Japanese.

The Disneyland Jungle Cruise is one of the park’s original rides — it opened with the park in 1955.

Enchanted Stitch Room???

While not happening (yet) at the Walt Disney World Resort, I thought I would bring in some exciting news from the Tokyo Disneyland Resort. The Enchanted Tiki Room show in tokyo Disneyland Park will soon become the Enchanted Stitch Room. The attraction is currently closed overseas for the changes and when it re-opens, the attraction will be similar to the Enchanted Tiki Room Under New Management in that a Disney animated film character will invade the classic attraction. Stay tuned for more info on this weird developement that may impact Walt Disney World in the near future.
