Impressive. Most impressive. No, really, this is pretty impressive and I would love to see Darth Vader make his way into Toy Story 4 and possibly team up with Emperor Zurg. Check out this thrilling fan made film that brings forth The Dark Lord Of The Sith and Space Command’s Favorite Space Ranger as mistaken identity leads to a crossover battle that will be long remembered!

PHOTO REPORT: Disney’s Hollywood Studios 2/6/17 (Star Wars & Toy Story Construction, Goodbye Starring Rolls & Kermit, ETC.)

Our latest photo report brings us back to Disney’s Hollywood Studios to see the latest progress on the park’s massive overhaul, as well as some recent closures an removals. Let’s take a look…

Welcome to Hollywood!

 width=

Work continues out in the parking lot on some of the park’s infrastructure.

 width=

Beauty and the Beast: Live Action on Stage

 width=

Some significant changes have come to Beauty and the Beast: Live on Stage. A new pre-show featuring a song from the upcoming film was added…

Also, the Beast’s character costume was recently updated to the new style…

 width=

 width=

 width=

 width=

 width=

 width=

This and That

 width=

A new monorail mystery pin set was released, featuring all 123 monorails. They retail at $16.99 for a box of 2 pins.

 width=

The chasers are actually kind of easy to figure out based on the character silhouettes and that only 4 monorail colors remain…

 width=

As we informed you on Friday, the Starring Rolls Cafe is now indefinitely closed. No real reason has been given as to why as of yet, but we expect their to be an expansion of the often crowded Brown Derby Lounge.

 width=

While I always liked this location, breakfast offerings at Trolley Car Cafe are similar and plenty of sweet pastries can be found next door at Sweet Spells on Sunset Boulevard.

Toy Story Land

For the most complete look at the current work on the Star Wars and Toy Story Lands, also be sure to check out our latest Hollywood Studios Expansion Update video:

 width=

Work progresses on the Toy Story themed land behind PIXAR Place, with the maintenance bay for the Slinky Dog Dash coaster looming over the gate by the former Jack Sparrow attraction.

 width=

From the edges of PIXAR Place, the removal of the MuppetVision balloon is surely noticeable. It’s easy to see how that would be visible from any land in the back of the park.

Star Wars Land

 width=

The trees and such that once separated the Streets of America from Commissary Lane and Star Tours were recently removed and the walls expanded outward. This offers an unobstructed view towards other areas that has never existed within the park.

 width=

 width=

 width=

It’s not even a construction wall, it is actually a chain link fence covered with a tarps twice over (to make sure I can’t see through it and get you guys some better pictures, I assume).

 width=

It’s not the prettiest thing, but we’re gonna have to live with it for a while if we want Star Wars Land, and I do.

 width=

With the trees gone, it is much easier to see in from the Tatooine Traders patio though…

 width=

The ice cream is still standing, but the Kermit the Frog hot air balloon was removed last week.

 width=

Hopefully the fountain will at least turn when all of this is done. PizzeRizzo just feels like a Muppets consolation prize at this point.

 width=

The PizzeRizzo balcony offers some views into what was New York Street.

 width=

PHOTO REPORT: Hollywood Studios 1/26/17 (Star Wars & Toy Story Land, Goodbye Kermit & Darkroom, ETC.)

Our latest photo report brings us back to Disney’s Hollywood Studios to see the latest work on the two major themed-lands being added to the park, as well as on a  number of smaller projects. Let’s head on in…

Welcome to Hollywood!

 width=

Great Balls of Fire was playing on my radio while I was pulling in, which just made we wish that I had an ADR for the Sci-Fi-Fi Dine-In…

 width=

There is a lot of ground being ripped out around the perimeter of the park to run some new utility related pipes and wiring.

 width=

The large cranes towards the back of the park are quite visible from the parking lot.

 width=

PHOTO REPORT: Hollywood Studios 1/26/17 (Star Wars & Toy Story Land, Goodbye Kermit & Darkroom, ETC.)

PHOTO REPORT: Hollywood Studios 1/26/17 (Star Wars & Toy Story Land, Goodbye Kermit & Darkroom, ETC.)

For a park that needs dining capacity, they don’t often keep many of the larger establishments open late.

 width=

Many more benches were installed around this planter and the roasted nuts cart has returned in a new location.

 width=

 width=

 width=

Toy Story Land

 width=

Work continues on the Toy Story themed land for the park, with dirt being moved just behind Toy Story Midway Mania at the moment.

 width=

 width=

 width=

You could make a little flip book of the next few pictures if you would like.

 width=

 width=

 width=

 width=

 width=

The desolate alley between Toy Story Mania and the former Jack Sparrow attraction offers a glimpse at the building for the Slinky Dog roller coaster, Slinky Dog Dash.

 width=

You can see it better in our last aerial flyover video:

PHOTO REPORT: Hollywood Studios 1/26/17 (Star Wars & Toy Story Land, Goodbye Kermit & Darkroom, ETC.)

Dirt obscures the view behind the gate.

This and That

 width=

The signage o n the Joffrey’s cart by Tower of Terror was moved over so that guests could actually see the person serving them…

 width=

Billboards for Beauty and the Beast and Born in China up behind the Great Movie Ride.

PHOTO REPORT: Hollywood Studios 1/26/17 (Star Wars & Toy Story Land, Goodbye Kermit & Darkroom, ETC.)

Sonny Burbank greeting guests outside of the Tower of Terror.

Fairfax Fare

 width=

We enjoyed a lunch at Fairfax Fair consisting of the salad and a giant baked potato.

 width=

A review of the baked potato can be found here, and a review of the new tex-mex menu here.

Mousecellaneous

 width=

The Fantasia projection in the Great Movie Ride has finally been switched to digital HD. This was the last screen in the ride to still utilize physical film.

 width=

The Disney Infinity play area in Star Wars Launch Bay is now closed. No word yet on what will replace it.

 width=

Additional signage was added outside of Red Carpet Dreams to make sure that guests know who is meeting there.

 width=

 width=

 width=

 width=

The remote control Mouse Droid is finally available, we found them at Tatooine Traders. They retail for $54.99 each.

PHOTOS, VIDEO: December 2016 Flyover of Disney’s Hollywood Studios Construction (Star Wars & Toy Story Lands)

We take to the skies again today, this time to look at the latest progress on the Star Wars and Toy Story themed lands at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. As you’ll see below, a little progress has been made since our last flyover.

The Toy Story Land is starting to take shape, but there still just isn’t much to look at over on the Star Wars side.

With probably 2-2.5 years to go, there is certainly time to build this land, but I would hope to see some progress soon.

We also have a quick video of our flyover to share with you today:

We once again take to the skies to give you the best view possible of the ongoing expansion of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Things are actually starting to get exciting over on the Toy Story Land area as structures are beginning to rise, meanwhile, Star Wars Land remains mostly a dirt pile. (Click images for larger res if you are into that kind of thing)

This side of the park is a disaster currently, and guests can really see this if they come in through the World Drive entrance to the park. A new car entrance and a parking lot expansion rounds out the construction you can see beyond the current borders of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Here you can see guest vehicles entering what’s left of that entrance, while just behind the fence, land clearing continues.

Some temporary trees were rolled into the PIXAR Place area as otherwise the view beyond the walls would be nothing but blue skies.

Disney recently released the above concept art for the Star Wars land at Hollywood Studios, which matches the shape of the site above pretty well if you turn it around (as our photos are looking from what will be the backside).

njl_1584

njl_1553

We now focus our view over towards the Toy Story Land area.

njl_1558

That square is the extent of Toy Story Land, minus the eventual new entrance that will cross into the Toy Story Midway Mania attraction just across that road.

njl_1572

You can already make out the main thoroughfare of Toy Story Land, although it is just a dirt path winding down the center of the above photo.

njl_1573

This big concrete box is most definitely part of the Slinky Dog Dash attraction, as it can bee seen behind the buildings of the load station in the concept art for Toy Story Land (included below). The attraction features a launch of a moderate speed and this box will likely hold the mechanics that can make that launch happen. The foundations for the Alien Swirling Saucers ride system are in place below that site. It seems this land is racing ahead, possibly not as far off as we once imagined.

img_2668-1-1200x900

njl_1585

It’s nice to finally start to see things that are recognizable after so many months of prep work. You can almost envision what this area will look like now if you compare it to the concept art.

njl_1586

We also have a video flyover of the site to share with you:

Of course, we will continue to keep you in the loop as work progresses on all facets of the massive expansion of Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Stay tuned for more!

PHOTO REPORT: Hollywood Studios 10/18/16 (Star Wars, Toy Story, PizzeRizzo, Parking Expansion, ETC.)

Our latest photo report brings us back to Disney’s Hollywood Studios to see the latest progress on the park’s expansion, PizzeRizzo, Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream, and more.

Welcome to Hollywood

zjmfzqz

Construction on the roadways around the park has expanded greatly, even beyond the main Walt Disney World Resort entrance on World Drive.

g7qmp6n

Entering Hollywood Studios from World Drive is quite the disaster currently as Disney prepares to move the entrance in the not-too-distant future.

kuebjyp

There are currently two exit ramps to Animal Kingdom as the new one recently opened. No word yet on when the old one will close, but for now you can take two exits in a row to the same place.

The construction as seen from the World Drive road entrance.

img_4006

AOTAS Hall of Fame Removal?

img_4011

Rumor has it that the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Hall of Fame is being removed outside of the Hyperion Theater.

img_4014

This and That

img_4016

To make sure everyone knows they are back, a large sign was placed on the top of Oasis Canteen advertising the menu.

img_4018

img_4020

Celebrity Spotlight was averaging about an 11 minute wait, so Disney cut the capacity in half and now waits have been double the length at least.

img_4022

Star Wars Land Construction

img_4024

Two facades are all that remains of the Streets of America as land clearing is full speed ahead for Star Wars land.

img_4027

For a better look, check out this week’s expansion video update:

PizzeRizzo and Gonzo’s Royal Flush

img_4031

Gonzo’s Royal Flush opens a few weeks ago, but some signage was recently added to the exterior.

Work continues on PizzeRizzo which should be opening soon.

img_4038

Some flags were recently hung, including the PizzeRizzo logo.

img_4042

img_4048
img_4050
img_4052

Tables and some wall art were recently installed inside.

img_4058

Gone are the old planters, railings now separate the outside dining area from the walkway.

img_4061

img_4062
img_4064

img_4065

Some new lamps were installed by the staircase.

Dr. Strange and the Mystery in One Man’s Dream

img_4066

The Doctor Strange sneak peek has finally begun inside the One Man’s Dream theater.

img_4068

img_4083

Walls are still up in The Legacy Continues area of the exhibit. It is still unknown exactly what the work is for.

img_4084

The model of the fortress from Tokyo DisneySea is now gone. This model had been in the exhibit for a number of years.

img_4085

More permanent walls are now up. The door was left open at one point, so I peeked in. There is literally nothing there except some ladders and other work tools.

img_4086

img_4088

The Doctor Strange preview is not much more than two of the film trailers put together, but the film looks interesting enough.

Toy Story Land

img_4069

The tarps are back up over by the former Jack Sparrow location, so we no longer have a clear view of construction down on this side.

img_4076

Land clearing continues back by Toy Story Midway Mania.

img_4077

img_4079

Raiders of the Lost Ark

img_4091

As discussed in an earlier post, the ark from Raiders of the Lost Ark is now on display at the Great Movie Ride.

PHOTO REPORT: Hollywood Studios 9/27/16 (Royal Flush Opens, Demolition Continues, PizzeRizzo, ETC.)

Our latest photo report trip to Disney’s Hollywood Studios comes to us courtesy of Jose Castillo. In this visit, we take a look at the continuing demolition in the Backlot, the latest progress on PizzeRizzo, the opening of Gonzo’s Royal Flush, and more.

Backlot Demolition Continues

The Backlot of Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been reduced to rubble. The space will someday be home to Toy Story Land and the Star Wars-themed land.

Sadly, the interior of the restroom is not themed.. and yes, we made sure no one else was in the restroom before we took these.

img_0149

Based on the last few new restrooms added in themed areas (like Tangled restrooms at the Magic Kingdom), we assumed these would be themed somehow, but they aren’t.

img_0155

img_0156

PizzeRizzo

img_0158

PizzeRizzo is nearing completion next door in the former Pizza Planet location.

img_0159

Fixing the Towers

img_0187

The control and lighting towers for the Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular show are a bit of an eyesore, so it looks like Disney might be doing something to at least make them a little more tolerable.

img_0188

A bunch of these strange markings could be found on both of the towers.

img_0189

img_0190

It appears that something will be tacked on to the sides of both towers.
