It’s NOT a trap. Star Wars Series 3!
Today, at Celebration VI in Orlando, Disney announced series 3 of Star Wars. Like most people expected it appears to be attached to the third movie, Return of the Jedi. So far we’ve seen an Admiral Ackbar and a 9″ Jabba with Jr Salacious.
This is amazing news! My only worry is this. Does that mean series 4 might be Phantom Menace related? That would sadden me. The other big question is cost. If series 2 is $14.95, how much will series 3 be??
What else would you like to see from this series remembering that it is probably Return based?
SPOILER: Under the Big Top’s Crazy Chaser(s)???
Over at Vinylmation Kingdom they posted this picture taken by Jennay Gooney (Click on image to reveal). They are saying that it’s the chaser from Under the Big Top.
We got this better picture from The Playwright. Check it out.
Well, both of them are! And a neck piece! This is just crazy!
So if there is a Jr coupled with the chaser, what does this mean? Well, for one thing, those collectors with a good feel will be able to easily pluck this much heavier blind box. I don’t think that should be a deterrent from Disney Artist incorporating this idea, because I do enjoy the creativity. To accompany a Jr with a 3″ inside a blind box opens up many realms of possibilities. As for the design of the figure itself, this is now the second figure we see use the neck extension in this way. Vampire Goofy in Spooky Series 1 also has an open mouth so his jaw and chin extend down onto the neck piece. Until now, the neck has always just been used to represent a long neck or body. I’m not 100% sure I’m on board with the execution of these two figures yet, but I love the idea of it.
Disney Parks Merchandise on the Horizon for 2012
The Disney Parks have some exciting and unique mefchandise offerings coming up in 2012 and Steven Miller was nice enough to share a sneak peek at some of the product on the Disney Parks Blog:
I feel like a time traveler at Disney Theme Park Merchandise. I’m surrounded by developers and artists who are already creating cool things that will arrive in late 2012 (a long development time is essential for many categories). I wanted to give you a sneak preview of their work in what I hope will be a recurring article. The article title is a nod to my favorite Disney attraction, Horizons, which also gave a glimpse into the future. Here are a few of my favorite items currently in production.
I’ve been a long time fan of The Haunted Mansion clock and the timepiece pictured above is a worthy tribute. It’s heavy and the details on the watch and figure are impressive. Disney Design Group artist Caley Hicks, who also designed the Vinylmation – Flags series, created the artwork. Releasing in a few months, this is the last timepiece in our Vinylmation watch series. The set will have an edition size of 750 and a retail of $175.
Our next stop – a new mystery pin set coming this summer to the Disneyland Resort. This limited release set contains 12 pins (plus a few chasers), and was designed by Disney Design Group artists Quynh Kimball and John Henselmeier (from Starspeeder 1000 Vehicle Playset fame). Product developer Jeanne Lewis told me that this collection “highlights favorite Disneyland attractions in license plate form.” Her favorite pin is “World of Color”, while mine is the Jungle Cruise (with Duffy The Disney Bear a close second, of course).
I like wearing ties (as you may have seen in previous Disney Parks Blog articles). That article contained a sneak preview of a new tie coming this year. There are a few additional items arriving in April that I think are super cool – bow ties! All I need now is a hat.
Speaking of hats, here is a first look at the Buzz Lightyear-themed Disney Ear Hat that will be arriving this fall. It is part of the Disney character ear hat collection that was first introduced last August.
Sadly, unlike Horizons, you won’t be able to choose your own ending to this article. But stay tuned as more cool things are coming.
Vampire Goofy and Werewolf Pluto
Today the vinylmation blog posted the second set in the Spooky Series. Last year’s Frankenstein Mickey and Minnie are followed up this year by a Vampire Goofy and Werewolf Pluto. Because of the 1 we saw on the set last year, we knew there was more coming, and this set is amazing. First off the neck and the cape! Then, the artwork and designs are just perfect. This set will be in Disney Stores on August 20th and will cost $26.95.
What do you think of it? Will you get it?

Possible Comic-Con Freebie Variant?
You might have seen this picture from a earlier post, but look below the Star Wars 2 set. What are those? They look like vinylmation! They are green and white and black. The colors sorta make them seem like Kermits wearing Mickey Ears.
We got the answer from Thomas Scott in a tweet today. He posted the above picture.
It looks like these will be a green variant of the Theme Park Favorite Classic Fan. Below is the Red version.
