Nerd Alert Celebrates National Comic Book Day by Assembling “Disney Superhero Dream Team”

collagesdcdscsd

WDWNT was recently inspired by Invaluable, the world’s leading online marketplace for fine art, antiques and comic books, to come up with what we think would be our Disney Superhero Dream Team! With Disney owning both Marvel and Star Wars we felt we would have an almost limitless roster to choose from. If we could take any characters and put them on the same squad, who would make the cut and why?

We didn’t have to look far at WDWNT for the perfect team that specialized in all things Marvel and Star Wars. Ladies and gentleman, we give you our very own Nerd Alert Team consisting of Patrick Hackett, Ron D’Anna and Joe Hogarty as they do what they do best and give us their Superhero Dream Team!

nerd-alert-transparent_1080x1080

Patrick: Hey Ron and Joe. Our friends over at Invaluable asked us to contribute what we at Nerd Alert feel our best super hero team would be. I assume since we specialize in all things Marvel, Disney and Lucasfilms, we could draw from those worlds to put together the ultimate team. I’m saying no team would be complete without its leader, it’s moral compass, and who better than Cap.

4075262-captain_america_alex_ross_zpsfc6bf774

Patrick: Captain America is an icon and if someone is going to lead this rag tag group of intellectual properties, I think it should be him.

Ron: Patrick, I’m surprised you didn’t go with a leader who led a team consistently for 50 years, Cyclops. One thing every team needs is the smart guy, the science guy. Marvel gives us plenty to choose from: Dr. Doom, Reed Richards, Peter Parker, Hank Pym, Tony Stark, the list goes on, but I’d choose Beast, Hank McCoy.

beast-x-men-marvel-comics

Ron: He’s in the same intellectual class as those guys but adds super strength, agility and honestly a sense of maturity everyone on that list lacks.

Joe: I know this may sound weird guys, but I am going to go to the Star Wars Universe and choosing the poster boy for the franchise, The Dark Lord of The Sith himself…..Darth Vader!

5239851-darthvaderandstormtroopers

Joe: Hear me out; he did turn from the Dark Side, he killed The Emperor (I think) and helped put an end to years and years of Imperial rule and tyranny throughout the Galaxy! The dude is all powerful with The Force and I really think he deserves a second chance. Plus someone let him into the Force Ghost Club and I don’t think they let everyone in. Maybe Tony Stark can retrofit his classic Darth Vader armor with a more advanced armored suit to help enhance his Force abilities. And since we are making the rules here, I want him in his prime, The Empire Strikes Back Vader, but no longer a slave to The Emperor or The Dark Side, but maybe with just a hint of Darkness to really put the hurt on all of those baddies. And I want the David Prowse, James Earl Jones, Sebastian Shaw combination, not the Hayden Christensen version who hates sand.

Patrick: Joe I was going Star Wars too! We need a pilot, and who better than the guy who made the Kessel run in less than 12 parsecs! Give me Han Solo to fly whatever craft we put this team on plus I know he’s a good shot.

9637aaae52344332852a82bef4859c9c

Ron: We’re still missing a couple of key roles for the team. We need our tank. We’ve got a strong team here but we need someone who can take a hit. I’m sticking with the X-Men and choosing Colossus.

1828635-ddsrfsdfsdfrsdfsdf

Ron: We’re talking almost Hulk level power here, but without the anger management problem. I know a lot of people think he’s a Superman level boy scout, but he’s had some dark moments including joining Magneto and going into that Hulk like rage after he was revived.

Joe: Guys, I think I am a sucker for the face of the franchise and that is why I am going to choose Marvel’s very own poster boy, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.

tumblr_m6ed3l5ev51qhpx4lo1_1280

Joe: What team would be complete without Spider-Man? He’s super strong, a genius and has those amazing arachnid abilities. And I am going to be specific again. They have been portraying Spider-Man on the young side lately. I want the original Peter Parker, grown up, an experienced superhero, married to Mary Jane, working for The Daily Bugle and not a young teenager that is still wet behind the ears. Kind of like Todd McFarlane’s Spider-Man. And might as well throw in my favorite Spider-Man costume, the black symbiote one! Give me Spider-Man in his prime. Not a Spider-Boy. This team needs a Spider-Man!

Patrick: Ok ok, we got a lot of heroes with big hearts and moral compasses but we need crazy. Marvel has a lot of off its rocker guys and gals to choose from. Deadpool would be an obvious, fan favorite choice, as would Wolverine. I thought about dipping my toe into the Disney pool and getting The Original Angry Bird, Donald Duck, but I decided to go to one of the biggest events in Marvel history, House of M. If stuff gets bad I want someone who can rip the earth apart at its very fabric give me the Earth-616 version of the Scarlet Witch.

wanda_maximoff_earth-616_from_uncanny_avengers_vol_1_1_coipel_variant_cover

Ron: Ok, so we need one more to round this out. And I think we’re missing one element: magic. I guess you can sometimes say Scarlet Witch may be magic, depending on which day of the week she’s being written. I’m not going with the obvious choice of Doctor Strange, but I’m drafting the Genie.

landscape-1437054946-genie

Ron: All powerful, and all funny. This team can use some comic relief too.

Joe: This last one was a tough one for me. I was thinking of adding someone really powerful like the X-Men’s Phoenix, Thor or The Silver Surfer. But my last choice has to do with the characters popularity and appeal. I have to throw in Iron Man.

iron_man_duvar_kad

Joe: You throw Tony Stark on a team and he comes with high intelligence, a lot of money and an arsenal of various Iron Man suits. Give me some pre-Civil War Iron Man, where he isn’t such a jerk, and one where he hasn’t fallen off the wagon. Need to see the that good old classic red and gold Iron Man suit and I will be a happy camper.

4/23/15 Marvel News Mash-Up (New-Look Spider-Man, Captain Marvel in Avengers, Nerd Alert Episode #3)

Official Character Poster Of ” The Vision” From “Avengers: Age Of Ultron”

6uu8kCZ

Just minutes after the last Marvel Mash-Up article came out, Disney and Marvel released the official character poster for “The Vision” in “Avengers: Age Of Ultron” and he looks fantastic! Trust me on this one, I hear he steals the movie, just like Hulk did to the original “Avengers: Movie.”

“The Incredible Hulk” Graces The Cover Of Rolling Stone Magazine

1035x1407-R1234Cover

The Hulk is on this months issue of Rolling Stone mostly to promote “Avengers: Age Of Ultron” but it really looks like he is ready for a solo movie. I’ve been watching some interviews with Joss Whedon and Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) and they both seem to hint that a solo movie for the Hulk is in the works.

Ruffalo was asked by IGN about the future of the Hulk:

Mark Ruffalo: “I think there’s a lot of places to go with him [Hulk].”

Scarlett Johansson: “Like where?”

IGN: “Space?”

Ruffalo: “Well he’s going to space. Yeah, I mean there’s some talk of maybe Planet Hulk.”

Here is a synopsis of the Planet Hulk comic book series:

The Illuminati (a group consisting of Tony Stark, Reed Richards, Black Bolt, Namor, and Dr. Stephen Strange) meet to discuss the recent destruction of Hulk and how to deal with him. The decision to deposit Hulk on a peaceful uninhabited planet is interrupted by a wormhole, placing the savage Hulk on the violent planet Sakaar.

The green skinned warrior quickly bonds with others like him in a gladiator arena, as well as creates an enemy of Red King. Through his conflicts and troubles Hulk unites a planet by killing the tyrant king, while finding a kindred spirit and falls in love with the warrior Caiera. Hulk, the savior of the people, is crowned king with Caiera as his queen. The peace does not last for the green goliath however, but instead leads to the destruction of Sakaar and the terribly destructive World War Hulk.

That would be great if the went with a movie adapation of “Planet Hulk.” If that is the case, it would probably be 5% Bruce Banner and 95% Hulk in the movie.

These issues are actually reprints of the original “Star Wars” comic book series that was released back in 1977. Marvel added a nice touch be retouching all of the panels and they look really nice.

“Spider-Man” In The Marvel Cinematic Universe Update

08-spider-man-2002

Kevin Feige, the heard of Marvel Entertainment, recently spoke with Collider and revealed some new information, as well as confirmed previous speculation, about the new “Spider-Man” who will make his debut in “Captain America: Civil War”:

  • Spider-Man will be Peter Parker, not Miles Morales, who is currently the Ultimate Spider-Man in the comics.
  • No origin story. Feige said, “There is a young kid [already] running around New York City in a homemade version of the Spider-Man costume in the MCU, you just don’t know it yet.”
  • Spider-Man will get a new costume. It will be classic Spider-Man but not a costume we have ever seen before on screen.
  • Peter will be 15-16 years old and he will be a high school student.

Personally, I would love for Spider-Man’s costume to be inspired by Todd Mcfarlane’s version, which was inspired by the very earliest versions of Spider-Man in the comics. Todd added really big bug eyes to the costume and brought back the webbing under his armpits. He also brought us those crazy detailed webs from his web shooters. Always loved this version:

“Captain Marvel” Was Originally Going To Be In” Avengers: Age Of Ultron” But Her Scene Was Cut And Replaced By “Scarlet Witch” And Her New Costume

Captain-Marvel

Kevin Feige explains just how close it was that Captain Marvel was going to appear in “Avengers: Age Of Ultron” and he explains why her scene was cut:

There were drafts that maybe people somehow got their hands on and read early on that included some characters – maybe others, but certainly one, which is why it’s dangerous to read scripts early on, and talk about them early on…

[Captain Marvel] was in a draft. But to me, it would have done that character a disservice, to meet her fully formed, in a costume and part of the Avengers already when 99% of the audience would go, ‘Who is that?’ It’s just not the way we’ve done it before.

Thanos is the good ‘Who’s that,’ because he’s clearly a bad guy, for comic fans he represents a specific storyline, you can get the buzz started from fans to non-fans with that cameo – as opposed to a title character, who deserves their own story. Even Black Widow you don’t meet in the last two seconds of Iron Man 2 wearing her costume – you evolve that going forward.

The way we reveal Scarlet Witch [in costume] at the end of the movie? Those were Captain Marvel plate shots. Joss said, ‘We’ll cast her later!’ And I said, ‘Yeah Joss, we’ll cast her later.’ [Whispers to an invisible associate who isn’t Joss] ‘We’re not putting her in there!’

Finally Joss was like ‘Let’s use those plates to let Scarlet Witch fly into frame, give her a big entrance?’ And that makes sense – she’s come to their side, and she deserves the cool intro, which will feed into another movie we start shooting in a few weeks.

3/31/15 Marvel News Mash-Up (Wolverine, Deadpool, MARVEL Show Coming to WDWNT)

Hugh Jackman Will Play “Wolverine” One Last Time

the-wolverine-wallpaper-2

This week is very Fox/Marvel heavy.

Last week Hugh Jackman hinted that after his portrayal of Wolverine in “X-Men: Apocalypse,” his next Wolverine film would be his last Wolverine film.

asxsxswaax

James Mangold, who directed “The Wolverine,” basically confirmed that the next Wolverine will be the last time we see Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.

ddsdsdss

I for one am going to miss Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. He has done an excellent job ever since he started playing the character back in 2000. He’s been playing Wolverine for 15 years? Wow! I think with each movie, he has gotten better portraying the character and you know that he has loads of respect for the character. Will miss him very much and hope that the last Wolverine movie will be “Old Man Logan.”

old

Come on Disney and Marvel, make friends with Fox like you did with Sony for Spider-Man. Fox is not going to be able to make a decent adaption of “Old Man Logan” without the assistance of Disney/Marvel loaning out some of their major characters to Fox. This movie can not be done without the Hulk. Period. End of sentence.

First Image Of Ryan Reynolds As “Deadpool”

ryan-reynolds-deadpool

And It looks great! I was beyond shocked when if first saw this image because one thing about Fox in regards to their Marvel super heroes, they dont like giving them costumes, well, definitely not those that mirror the comic book. Thank you Fox, or whoever made this choice, to go with something authenitc for a change. Hey Disney/Marvel, Captain America can still use some help with his costume.
