Starting off in DCA, taking a quick look at the Mermaid building
CM previews just began for Star Tours: The Adventures Continue here on the West Coast so little info has been leaked so far. Over in Orlando, their has been several CM previews and even soft openings to the public. We were able to speak to a number of cast members who have participated in the WDW Cast Member Previews and reconstruct the queue and ride experience from the bits and pieces that we have put together. Note this IS reliable source information but from multiple sources. It reflects info from people who have experienced the attraction but there may be gaps as it is from multiple sources. We will continue to update you as we get more information from our team covering the events in Walt Disney World. Oh and beware I have a bad feeling about the SPOILERS ahead!

Star Tours: The Adventures Continue opens in Disneyland on June 3rd, but if you don’t mind spoilers (which you shouldn’t because your reading this), stay tuned to our sister site WDW News Today for up to minute updates covering the East Coast version of Star Tours opening on May 20th.

On Friday, we gave you a look at the progress of the expansion at Disney California Adventure park, and this week there are even more updates coming to the Walt Disney Imagineering Blue Sky Cellar.
Starting May 18, additions will include a new aerial view of the park, above. In this photo, you can see the incredible progress being made in Cars Land (bottom right) as well as the soon-to-be complete Paradise Pier (bottom left). At the top, you can also see the park’s new entrance taking shape.
Also set to debut this week at Blue Sky Cellar are new attraction posters for The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure, Goofy’s Sky School and Grizzly River Run. Designed in the style of the traditional Disney theme park attraction posters, these three are sure to become instant classics.
I’m sure many of you are anxious to add these to your attraction poster collection, along with previously released images for California Screamin’, Mickey’s Fun Wheel and Silly Symphony Swings, so look for many of these attraction posters and much more when they become available in Spring 2012.
There is so much to see at Blue Sky Cellar, from models and artist renderings to concept drawings and more, all crafted by Walt Disney Imagineers.

Where: D-Street, Downtown Disney District, Disneyland Resort
What: Local California artist have been asked to create Pirates of the Caribbean inspired custom Vinylmation. This doesn’t seem to mean characters from the attraction or movie, just inspired by.

Artist: Javier Soto Edition Size: 1 Retail: $1200 Javier is scheduled to appear to meet collectors and sign autographs. This mixed media figure has a wonderful pirate hat and one bare foot (good thing it’s not dirty). He is also holding a jug of what we can assume is fine rum fit for a pirate! |

Another mixed media piece, this one is wearing a nicely designed jacket. He has great detail in his face. And to top it all off, an awesome looking octopus on his head! With an eye patch!

Retail: $850 Miss Mindy is scheduled to appear to meet collectors and sign autographs.
I’ll be honest, I’m not sure if you would find this Pirate at the traveling carnival or on a pirate ship. She has a wonderful peg leg, a great looking custom nose and a very colorful costume. The heart shaped eye patch is attached, not painted. As with the bow on the head. And the skull and crossbones in the ear is a great detail.

This design is a Pirate sitting on top of his pile of gold. Lots of treasure is seen scattered around the pile. From the background, he appears to be in a cave. On the back is a parrot sitting on a treasure chest.

Noah posted this picture on his own blog the other day, announcing he was creating a limited edition Pirates of the Caribbean inspired Vinylmation. Now its official this will be part of the May 21 release!

Update: 5/14/11 At Midnight @noahfineart announced that he was ALSO making a Pirate 9″ Custom (as well as the previously announced Little Mermaid custom). So now it looks like the May 21st release and signing is with Noah at Disneyland.
Update: 5/9/11 On the podcast (and on this post) we’ve compared this release to the release of the Noah special 9″ TRON customs. Now there’s reason to believe that he might actually be the artist of this one to. Tonight @NoahDineArt tweeted this:
Remember that the Noah TRON series had 36 individual custom 9″ figures. Each vinyl cost $595.00. Will that part stay the same too? Since the announcement at the Art of Disney blog is only for California, will this series be smaller than 36? The release date is fast approaching. I have a feeling we will find out more, really really soon.

Update: 4/10/11 The Art of Disney blog has changed the wording of the announcement to include the words 9″ in the description of this even. (Compare this to the original announcement farther below)
This begs the questions, “Is it just one design? Is it a very limited Series like the Noah 9″ TRON figures? Is it a set of 9″?” What do you think?
4/2/11 It’s April 2nd, so this is not a April Fool’s prank.
As normal, we were clicking the links looking for Muppets 2 info on the Art of Disney Event’s page, and lo and behold, they updated it. Most of the dates in the calender are already known, but one new date stuck out. May 21st! The rumored Pirates (of the Caribbean?) set will be released that day, along with a signing of the set at the Disneyland Resort from 2-5pm. This date makes sense, as Pirates 4 On Stranger Tides opens on May 20th.
No word yet on the artist, but since it’s California it’s a possibility that the artist is Monty.

Looks like there will be several new AP figures available. Both themes have been seen before so it will be interesting to see what they do for these. The other question is… Will they be Disneyland exclusives?
An anonymous source attended yesterday’s soft opening and was able to send us an audio recording of their ride experience. YES THIS IS A REAL LIVE RECORDING OF STAR TOURS: THE ADVENTURES CONTINUE. If you do not want to have your ride experience spoiled do not listen to this recording as it IS the ride. Special thanks to @indyandmarion for the pictures of the Cars 2 set that was out during the Cars 2 event at Downtown Disney Florida this weekend. We thought this might have been a set of 12, but it looks like it’s a two pack, like a previous Pixar set, Wall-E and Eve. Both pieces utilize the “New Mold”. No word on a release date or cost.

Here’s the giant Cars vinylmation that we saw several months ago. Little did we know, but this pointed to which characters were going to be part of the Cars 2 set!
 Hey there Vinylmation fans. Welcome to the second edition of the DSO (Disney Store Online) report. In the past 2 days, Disney has made a few significant changes to their online store including posting some larger Vinylmation sets as well as price reductions. In case you missed out on the first DSO report, which can be found here: DSO Report: 5/11/11, I’ll recap the different sections again below.
This report certainly won’t list every product on the online store, being that there’s upwards of 80-100 regularly, but will rather focus on a few major categories of Vinylmation. “Introducing” is recently released Vinylmations that are available online. Next are “Price Variants,” which note both the beginning and ending of Vinylmations on sale. The occasional “Comebacks” are Vinylmations that Disney is re-entering into the online marketplace and although a rarity, are fun to find and don’t stay up for long! “Sellouts” are those items that Disney has listed as for sale but are unfortunately listed as sold out once selected. The “Departed” section are Vinylmations that have recently been taken off the DSO. Lastly, “Up and Comings” are Vinylmations that are planned for online release in the upcoming weeks. With all that said, here is this week’s DSO. |

| Update: 5/11/11 Noah posted another clue on twitter. This time he says, “a girl”. Does this mean he made a custom of the famous “redhead” from the auction scene in the ride? If not, this might mean that he’s going a different direction, and it might not be pirate related at all! Any thoughts? |   |

Update: 5/10/11 We are still waiting word on what Noah meant by yesterday’s tweet about a new Vinylmation release. We are speculating he is the artist behind this May 21st custom Pirates Vinylmation and a look at his blog today added more fuel to that speculation. Noah attended the May 7th Disneyland premiere of the newest Pirates movie to sign his work for guests. Noah also produced this piece of Pirates artwork: |
