What: A ticketed trading event for pins and Vinylmation. The year’s largest pin and Vinylmation event. The Vinylmation day will include trading
games, a guest trading area, even specific vinyls for purchase, and
event vinyl as a gift, artist signings, upcoming figures on display and a
presentation announcing upcoming Vinylmation. This year’s theme is Disney Villains. The Story Goes:

“In a far away land there lived a wicked and vain Queen who wanted more power. While pouring over ancient spell books, she discovered an incantation that, when performed on the darkest of days – Friday the 13th – could bring together thirteen of the most evil Disney villains known only as “The 13.” To cast this spell, the Queen must use a powerful, supernatural object – a magic mirror – to transport “The 13” from across time to the present day. As luck would have it, Friday the 13th will take place in September this year! The Queen decided this would be the perfect day to cast the spell.

Let’s fast forward to September. As the newly assembled Villains are hashing out their nefarious plans, the Villains intentionally break the mirror and hide the thirteen shards. Now the mirror can never be used against them, as it is the only object that can send them home. Lucky for us, an imaginative purple dragon named Figment overheard their plotting and asks Mickey Mouse for help. Along with five of their trusted friends known as the “Lucky 7,” Mickey Mouse and Figment devise a plan to stop “The 13.” They must reassemble the broken shards to send the villains back to their rightful places in time.”

EVENT VINYLMATION
I love the inclusion of the Beagle Brothers. They don’t get on much merchandise. I’m a little surprise they do not have hats. I’m also a stickler when ears are not used well. But they are designed beautifully and are a must have.

Great idea for a combo set. Wonderful artwork on Dr. Facilier and I would expect no less from Ron Cohee. The hat looks great and I love the splash of color on the ears. The juniors are a nice companions, fit in with the story and are expertly designed on the 1.5 inch canvas.

This is also a great idea for a combo. You get Mim in her normal form and in one of her transformations. Great artwork.

This is the least impressive piece of the Reflections event bunch. The face and horns look good, but I just don’t think Maleficent was the right choice for the Minnie platform. i do like how the bow gives the artist the chance to draw that straight line across, but it is an awful lot of yellow up there. For some reason the Minnie body comes across as a dress and not a robe and just looks odd.

An absolutely wonderful variant follow up to Sully’s original Popcorns figure. I wish this one was the original design released.

How long have you been collecting?
Since 2010

What is your favorite figure that you own?
Woody from Toy Story because he was the first one I purchased.

What is your favorite figure that you don’t own?
Park 2 Snow White because I miss that attraction and I feel that vinyl represents that ride.

Which of these is the best feeling about collecting vinyl?
Pulling a figure from a blind box with my 4 year old daughter and getting the one I want is the best feeling! However, one day I picked the Park 5 Haunted Mansion from a mystery box at Hollywood Studios and the artist was actually there that day so I was super stoked!

Thanks for your showing off your collection Matt!

From D23: Marvel Checklist

There have been several rumors flying around about the upcoming Marvel set from Disney. At D23 instgrammer mymousecapades seems to have solved all the riddles. Here is the checklist for the Marvel set. It includesall 11 figures we were able to deduce from the side of the box, along with a Mystery Chaser, 2 variants, and a Combo Pack Hawkeye.

No idea what the combo pack means, but it’s cool they included Hawkeye, completing the movie roster.

I’m also interested in the variants. The obvious ones seem to be a greener Hulk and a more classic Spiderman (that Future Foundation outfit is an interesting choice for the first round).

What do you think the variants will be?

Also, we are doing a lot of coverage of D23 from our phones so be sure to follow us on twitter at vinylmationnews and Destination Vinylmation on instagram for updates this weekend.

Spotlight On: Ash’s Gummi Bears

With the announcement that Disney Afternoons Series 2 would finally have some Gummi Bears as a set, we wanted to see what the custom world had down with such an obvious missed opportunity in series 1. We found Ash, and here are Ash’s Gummi Bears.

“I was a huge Disney cartoon fan growing up and when I got into Vinylmation I was beyond excited to see the Disney afternoon series.
Sadly, at that time, the Gummi Bears were missing. How could they not produce the bouncing here and there and everywhere bunch?

So my series was born! The biggest challenge was finding the right accessories/hats for them all. Took way longer than I thought it would.

I’m really happy with the finished bunch and hope they bring back memories for all those 80s/90s kids out there!” -Ash

Ghostly Gus Appears

Not that it was a surprise to anyone at this point, but the last Park Starz 2 variant has been announced and it is a clear version of Gus from the Haunted Mansion. I was hoping for a little bit more, maybe even a three pack of the three ghosts, but this is what we get. The figure will be individually sold for $24.95 and there are 2000 of them. They will be released at D-Streets (and maybe online) on August 9th 2013. What are your thoughts on this (and any other) Park Starz variants?

New Black and White Mickey and Minnie

Another hidden figure inside a video. Disney just loves to do this sort of thing. Go to the Sketch to Shelf video and watch until 48 seconds in. There you will find the above imagine. Now this does nto appear to be the “Classic Minnie” we saw that is going to be for sale at D23, however the video says these are D23 items. Interesting….

What do you think? I personally really enjoy the fancy Mickey. I’m gonna have to try to get one of those for myself!

Evil Queen Daisy is a Reflections Surprise

It seems like there may be an LE 1000 Evil Queen Daisy 3″ figure released exclusively at the Reflections of Evil trade event for $16.95.

It was not on the RSP but should be available in the set up shop inside the event just like the Popcorn’s Dumbo variant was last fall. I hope there are more characters. Ron Cohee, best character artist the Vinylmation team has, nailed this. I NEED more. THIS is what I thought this event would have. Please bring more to the table, designed by Ron, and I will change my tone about the selection at this event.

Hot & Fresh Preview of Popcorns Series 2

I was one of the biggest fans of Popcorns when I got my hands on it last Fall, unfortunately, the second series does not look nearly as strong. We will see 4 figures from Popcorns 2 release on September 6th at the parks and online. They will retail for $19.95… a much needed price drop from the ridiculous $24.95 that the first series began at. That series quickly went on sale for $5 online where many people picked them up and realized it was a quality product. Now, they settled in at $20, and that seems about right. Series 1 delivered some great characters with not only a unique, but a pleasing stylistic design. This time around, at least out of the four we see, I don’t have a connection to one of the characters and on a couple others the design is just scary.

There is no way around it, Ursula looks weird. She looks more like a Blooper from Super Mario Bros. than a stylistic version of The Little Mermaid’s Villain.

Then there is Stitch. He has been done in so many ways and I thought it was impossible to not make Stitch look adorable… until now.

Popcorns is such a cute, playful platform and Stitch fits those characteristics… but this just looks plain scary. It looks like a character out of an intentionally cheap looking cartoon. Then there is Sparky. I never really liked the movie and therefore have no connection here.

Now stop me if I have my Donald Duck Club blinders on here, but I think Donald is the only saving grace in this set. He looks amazing and i gushed over him when I first saw him about a month ago. It will be the only one from series 2 I buy, even if we get another $5 deal.

Halloween 2013 Figures Revealed

Caley Hicks had the honors of designing up some Halloween treats for us this year. I’d say, she succeeded in tempting my Vinylmation sweet tooth. There will be two to choose from this year. Both are Limited Release that will go up for sale on September 20 in the parks and online for $14.95 a piece. First up is Vampire Stitch.

The artists have really learned how to make Stitch work on the Mickey canvas over the years. This looks spectacular. Stitch has the most evil, up to no good grin on his face that covers the whole head. There are also two fangs sticking out. Then, he uses the much needed cape DDG developed that they use well throughout the product line. Up next is one of my automatic all time favorites…

The Mayor Scarecrow that sits in Town Square each and every Halloween season. I can’t tell you how much I love walking around the Magic Kingdom when it decorated for Fall, and these scarecrows are a huge part of that. I have always wanted to see these in a box set or put into the Park series, but this is a great way to get at least one of them out. Great looking suit and sash. The grass drawn in around him is the perfect touch!
