WDW News Today the Radio Show Debuts on 1520 WBZW in Orlando

On August 24th, WDW News Today the Radio Show made it’s debut on 1520 WBZW in Orlando, FL. The show is hosted by myself, Nick of Destination Vinylmation, and Tom Corless, founder of WDWNT.com and the host of the WDW News Today podcast.

The show airs live in the Orlando area every Saturday from 7p-8p EST and will extend to 2 hours beginning September 21st. It can also be heard live at 1520WBZW.com and on Tune In. The show covers the latest Walt Disney World news and we invite you to get in on the discussion live. Each week, we play call-in games where you can win great prizes courtesy of Theme Park Connection. And don’t miss 2, 5 and 7 seconds where we ask each other some rapid fire questions.

Currently, since we tackle time sensitive topics and want to promote listener interaction, we do not plan on podcasting every episode. However, if you would like a taste of the show, WDWNT has posted our first episode as part of their latest podcast feed. Check out Part 2 of the 8/30/13 episode #303. You can also find WDWNT on iTunes.

Until we get the official radio show website up and running, follow @WDWNT on Twitter for all the updates.

How Many Traders Should I Bring to Reflections Trade Event?

As people are packing their bags, we have been getting this questions a lot, “How Many Traders Should I Bring to Reflections Trade Event?” Here is my take on it, please feel free to comment and help your fellow traders if you have a different POV.

When trading with Cast Members, I feel that you generally go through a line (for 3″ figures) at an average of about once every 30-45 minutes. So lets say from 10a-7p you get through the line 18 times. Each time you get up there, you can trade 2 figures. So at most, we are talking about around 36 total trades. That is on the very high side, but I would rather be over-prepared. Remember there are other things going on that will take your attention away from the trading lines including: trading with other guests, the artist meet and greet, future Vinylmation displays, the Vinylmation presentation and the all important food and bathroom breaks. I personally average about one line an hour. I’d also say that about 60% of the figures you trade for, you will then just turn around and re-trade the next time you get up there. So short answer long, I’d say between 20-30 traders will get you through the day depending on what you own and are willing to carry.

You should also bring Vinylmation to trade with other guests. A ton of trading goes on there. I especially like the Thursday night trade show at Coronado. The past few years, I got all my trading out of the way there and didn’t have to worry about trading inside the event. Also, a lot of trading gets done in line while you are waiting to get up to the trade box.

Remember the golden rule when packing and carrying your Vinylmation. Keep them individually bagged, even your Cast Member traders, so they do not bang into each other and get scratched and smudged. Also, have all accessories with the figures that you intend to trade. Those fishing tackle boxes with dividers work well at these events. Also, don’t be afraid to bring a backpack or rolling case to easily transport your stuff… plenty of people use them.

DV will have live coverage all weekend long on the website, Twitter (@VinylmationNews) and Instagram (DestinationVinylmation). We will also have live video and chat of the Vinylmation Talk at 1pm on Sunday.

New SF Green Trolley Coming September 14

Update 09/03/13 Photo of flyer posted.

The Stockton St. Disney Store in San Francisco has announced an artist signing event with Enrique Pita on Saturday, September 14 from 8am – 10am. There are no pictures yet, but they are calling it the “Green Trolley Vinylmation” and specified that there will be “limited quantities available.” Here is a photo of the flyer that we found on Vinylmation Exchange.

There was a previous SF Trolley designed by Dan Beltran that was red and produced on the original Mickey platform.

Medieval Product Photos Leaked

Vinylmation Kingdom, who posted box photos last week, has now posted photos of the actual Midieval Vinylmation Series. This series is rumored to be released at Disney Stores and online on September 16.

As interesting as molded accessory pieces such as this dragon’s spikes and tails are, they take us way too far away from Disney Vinylmation. Again, great artwork by the Disney Store artists, but just let them make the themed action figures they seem to want to make. The production quality is just never there with the Disney Store product either. I am all on board with Disney appealing to a wide range of audiences and I know that not ever series is for every fan. I am a big proponent of just collecting what you like. But when the product is constantly brought in this direction, it really waters down the hobby’s trade market and the respectability of the Disney Vinylmation name.

Two More Redux Super Chasers Pulled

Last week two more Urban Redux Super Chasers were pulled from blind boxes. The first was fond in Disneyland by Vinylmation Exchange member Larry Alvarado. He was rewarded with the Ninja cat designed by Maria Clapsis.

Then, on the other coast, a Space Monkey designed by Enrique Pita was pulled by Eric Pellegrino at Walt Disney World.

This makes four known pulled Urban Redux Super Chasers out of a possible 24 total. Of course, more may have been pulled but not posted in public.

Spotlight On: Ryan Branoff’s Pook-a-Looz

We got word from Ryan that he was selling this awesome group of vinyl tomorrow so we wanted to share with you. It’s a shame Disney cancelled Pook-a-Looz, we kinda dug them and their style.

“I am beyond excited to debut my latest custom series: ‘Pook-a-Looz Pairs’! Before I got into Vinylmation, I collected Disney’s version of Ugly Dolls; Pook-a-Looz. After the series ran it’s course, I moved onto the Disney collectible that we all know and love. I thought combining these two collectibles would make for the perfect custom set!

There are 32 figures in total, some depicting Disney produced Pook-a-Looz and some new designs. I will be selling these in pairs for $135 shipped. You can choose any of the pairs shown (listed in the comments section).

These will be sold on my customs page: facebook.com/customvinylmationryanbranoff on Tuesday, September 3rd at 8pm EST.”
-Ryan Branoff

The pairs that will be sold are….

Lotso & Little Green Man

Ralph & Vanellope
Sorcerer Mickey & Steamboat Willie
Alice & Queen of Hearts

Peter Pan & Tinkerbell

Reflections of Evil Trade Event Schedule

The Reflections of Evil Trade Event Schedule has been released. Reflections is the ticketed (now Sold Out) trade event that will take place at Epcot from September 13-15, 2013. We have a full explained page here.

The event will kick off with registration and product pick up on Thursday, September 12 at the Coronado Springs Convention Center, Veracruz A Ballroom from 10am-7pm. If you choose early pick up during RSP, your merchandise will be here. If not, you will have to pick it all up when you go to the event. Just a note, this process can take a couple hours. I don’t know exactly when the best time is, maybe mid afternoon? I went at open last year to pick up my stuff before work and had to leave after waiting over an hour in line and come back in the evening for another hour plus wait. However, two years ago I went in the evening and walked right up to the pick up table. There is also a free guest trading area that is accessible only after you pick up your event credentials.

The weekend schedule falls into line pretty much as expected. There will be trading areas with Cast Members and guests, games, auctions, meet and greets and signings on all three days. Saturday will include a “Pin Talk”, a look ahead to upcoming pins. Sunday will included “Vinylmation Talk”, a look ahead to upcoming Vinylmation. Friday will include a “Villains Review” and “Villains Mix & Mingle.” I assume this is some sort of a show and then character meet and greet. We will be talking extensively about the schedule and a guide to the event on podcast #132.
