PHOTOS: Projectors Installed for New Pirates of the Caribbean Segment in Fantasmic!

A few weeks ago, we told you that Disney is developing a new version of Fantasmic! for when it returns to Disneyland Park in the Summer of 2017. Well, the revolutionary projectors for the Pirates of the Caribbean sequence in this updated show have already been installed along the Rivers of America.

New projectors in stalled for Updated Fantasmic at Disneyland Park

New projectors in stalled for Updated Fantasmic at Disneyland Park

If you are unfamiliar with the rumor, here is some information from our previous post:

When Fantasmic returns to Disneyland Park in 2017, guests will find a number of upgrades to the show on the technical side. A brand new HD projection system, lighting upgrades, and a completely new sound system (which wasn’t replaced in the 2009 overhaul) are expected in the change-over.

In addition, the show will be sporting a few new segments, including one for Pirates of the Caribbean, which would replace the Peter Pan segment which has been in the show since it debuted in 1992. Using projection mapping technology, the plan will be to turn the Sailing Ship Columbia into the Black Pearl. The ship will host a large fight between Jack Sparrow’s crew and that of Captain Barbossa. Of course, The Columbia will be re-rigged for all new stunt work featuring Captain Jack Sparrow and his pirate friends. The truly amazing part (if true) is that the projection mapping technology will follow the ship around the river, also projecting onto the performers on the boat. This effect would allow performers to change in appearance, jumping between a skeleton and human form just like the characters in Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

Other new segments are expected to replace some of the older ones when Fantasmic! returns to Disneyland next year. Sadly, we have no solid information on these at this time. Work on the Sailing Ship Columbia to prepare it for these new show elements are already underway.

Disney has yet to announce the changes to the show.

11/15/16 Marvel Mash-Up (Inhumans in IMAX, Deadpool, Doctor Strange)

“The Inhumans” Movie Is No More! It Will Now Be A TV Series On ABC! First Two Episodes Will Be Released In IMAX Theaters

inhumans-movie-cancelled

For some this may be good news, and for others, not so much. “The Inhumans” was originaly part of Marvel’s Phase 3 of movies and to be released theatrically on November 3, 2018. In the last year or so, the movie’s release date was shifted around several times and eventually was no longer included in Marvel’s Phase 3 round of movies. There were rumors that Marvel was dropping the movie. In a way, they did, but now it is being resurrected as TV series on ABC.

According To Variety:

ABC has ordered a new series, “Marvel’s The Inhumans,” based on the classic comic-book characters, in partnership with IMAX. Under a production, marketing and distribution agreement with the theater chain, a version of the first two episodes of the live-action series will premiere in IMAX theaters next summer. ABC will then debut the weekly hour-long drama on television the following fall.

The series will be produced by Marvel Television in conjunction with ABC Studios and filmed entirely with IMAX cameras. IMAX, a financing partner on the show, will premiere “The Inhumans” in September, 2017.

Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the Inhumans are a race of superpowered beings who first appeared in Marvel Comics publications in 1965. Inhuman characters appeared last season on ABC drama “Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.” The new series, however, will not be a spinoff of “SHIELD.” It will focus on Black Bolt, the leader of the Inhumans, and his family.

ABC’s broadcast of the first two episodes in the series will feature original content not included in the IMAX version.

“This unprecedented alliance represents a bold, innovative approach to launching great TV content for a worldwide audience,” said Ben Sherwood, co-chairman, Disney Media Networks and president, Disney/ABC Television Group. “It highlights Disney|/ABC’s unrelenting commitment to finding new and creative ways to showcasing our very best programming and increasing global engagement and reach.”

Personally, this is bad news for me. I would always much rather see a theatrical movie than a TV production. Even though they will be using IMAX cameras, so what? You wont get the full experience on TV. Also the budget will be far less than what could have been spent on the movie. It was rumored a while ago that Vin Diesel would be playing The Inhuman’s leader, Black Bolt. You can forget about that now. People love Netflix’s Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage. I’d rather watch a 2 hour theatrical movie with a decent budget then sit for 13 hours watching a one Season of these shows. Marvel does a great job with the Netflix series but it’s not my cup of tea.

Kevin Feige Hints That “The Illuminati” Will Play A Role In “Avengers: Infinity War”

collagedsdsds

During the press tour for “Doctor Strange”, Marvel Head Honcho, Kevin Feige was asked about the possibility of The Illuminati appearing in the upcoming “Avengers: Infinity War”. Here is what Feige had to say:

“Well, what’s fun about the Illuminati is that there are certain characters interacting with other certain characters, so I don’t know about that particular story line, but certainly some of those characters you will see on screen in the next Avengers.”

illuminati

So who are “The Illuminati”?

“The Illuminati” was a secret organization comprised of several of the world’s most powerful heroes: Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange; Black Bolt, King of the Inhumans; Charles Xavier, founder of the X-Men and mutant rights activist; Reed Richards, founding member of the Fantastic Four; Namor the Sub-Mariner, King of Atlantis; and Iron Man (Anthony Stark), founding member of the Avengers. These six men worked together for an unspecified amount of time to mold and shape the status of the superhuman world and the world around it. Black Panther was also added to “The Illuminati”

As far as movie rights go, the MCU can use Iron Man, Black Panther, Doctor Strange. Marvel also has the rights to Black Bolt of The Inhumans, so it would be a good way to introduce the character into the MCU. Namor’s rights are still confusing. Joe Queseda, president of Marvel comics, said recently that Marvel has the rights to the character. The rights were originally with Universal but they never did anything with the character and no movie was ever made. The big question is whether we will see Professor X or Mr. Fantastic? Those movie rights are squarely with Fox but is this a sign that things are starting to change with Marvel and Fox (also see article below)? After the disaster that was Fantastic Four, I still wouldst be surprised if Fox is talking with Marvel over bringing those characters over to the MCU, similar with Sony did with Spider-Man.

Fox and Marvel Recently Worked Together To Help Out Both “Deadpool” and “Guardians Of The Galaxy, Vol. 2” Movies

guardians-galaxy-2-poster-characters

It may be the start of hell freezing over as it recently came out that Fox and Marvel entered in agreement to kind of swap characters for their movies. Kevin Feige mentioned this on Facebook:

“When I first pitched Ego as Quill’s father, I THOUGHT we owned the character. After I had worked out a very elaborate story with Ego the Living Planet as a very important part of the Marvel cosmic universe, I learned that we actually didn’t own the character. I had no back up plan, and it would be nearly impossible to just drop another character in. Thank God Fox came to us and wanted to make a trade.”

deadpoolnegasonic-131268

So who was the character that Fox wanted? Well it seems that Fox actually did own the rights to the character, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, but they wanted to change her powers. Her original powers was just psychic, but in order to change a power, they had to get Marvel’s approval and both Marvel and Fox came to an agreement where Marvel would get Ego The Living Planet from Fox, who will be Starlord’s father in “Guardians Of The Galaxy 2” and Fox could change the powers of Negasonic Teenage Warhead. Here is what director of “Deadpool”, Tim Miller recently had to say to Empire:

“Her power, I mean, we chose her because we wanted a trainee for Colossus in the film and the writers and I just fell in love with her name. It’s just so out there and so Deadpool and it was Grant Morrison who named her, so we knew we had to get her in there. And then we thought, well, we’re going to need to make her powers fit with who she feels like she is in the movie and so to me it’s just like other characters in the Marvel universe, like Nitro, for instance, whose power is to just explode parts of their body. But we did try to do it so that it wasn’t just a simple, ‘oh, I can explode’, she can transfer the force of the explosion down so she can move upwards – she can put it into a punch if she wanted to. So it was really just her fist exploding as she hit somebody. we tried to mix it up, even though we didn’t use that particular thing in the movie, but it was the idea. Actually, we did use it in the movie, it’s just not in the movie now!”

Hopefully this will be the start of something bigger. Please Fox, release the “Fantastic Four” to Marvel! Not sure who they would want in return bet I bet money will work too!

“Deadpool: Director Leaves “Deadpool 2” Movie Over Creative Differences With Actor Ryan Reynolds!

deadpoolshocked

Say it aint so! With the success of “Deadpool” a sequel was all set to go into production but recently director Tim Miller walked away from the project over creative differences. Rumor has it that Miller wanted to at least double the budget from the original movie which was only $68 million. Ryan Reynolds wanted to keep the movie more grounded like the first movie and keep to a moderate budget. Reynolds was also not happy with the directors choice of Kyle Chandler to play Cable. Both Reynolds and Miller met with Fox and Fox sided with Reynolds. It’s sad that it had to happen but you cant lose Reynolds as Deadpool. Shortly after in a sign of solidarity, composer Junkie XL also left the project siding with director Tim Miller. Is “Deadpool 2” in trouble? Right now, the answer is yes, but that doesn’t mean that it will be a disaster. We will just have to wait in see until “Deadpool 2” comes out January 12, 2018.

PHOTOS, VIDEO: New Parade, Updated Fireworks Debut at Disneyland’s “Mickey’s Halloween Party”

Mickey’s Halloween Party at Disneyland Park kicked off on Friday night, bringing with it a new parade, updated fireworks, and more to the Disneyland Resort for the Halloween Time season. Our own Conner Purzycki was on the scene to bring you a look at some of the new offerings for this year.

Mickey's Halloween Party

Mickey’s Halloween Party

Frightfully Fun Parade

New for 2016 is the Frightfully Fun Parade, replacing the rather lackluster cavalcade that has been presented at the party over the last several years.

While a nice addition, the Headless Horseman still moved painstakingly slow, just as it has been at Walt Disney World over the last several years since one of the horses fell while performing. At Disneyland, the Horseman did have 4 escorts, which definitely took away some of the coolness from the Florida version.

The parade is a clear improvement over the former offering, but hopefully will be expanded upon year to year with new floats. It is a solid start to what could be a really fantastic parade at the park.

Halloween Screams Fireworks

Halloween Screams fireworks have returned for the 2016 parties, upgraded with new projection and lighting effects that really add to the show.

Treat Trails

Treat trails are plentiful at this years party, although many are bunched very close together.

dsc_0054

The coolest Treat Trails in our opinion are those that go through the Golden Horseshoe and Pinocchio’s Village Haus. The quality of the candy is the same as it has been, offering a number of respected name brand candies.

There is an Annual Passholder exclusive treat trail where APs can get a free tote bag and lots of treats as well.

This and Bat… I Mean, That

The atmosphere around the park for the party is pretty fantastic, enhanced this year with some new effects.

dsc_0007

Much of the infrastructure installed for the now-defunct Disneyland Forever fireworks show was utilized to decorate the Main Street facades, Sleeping Beauty Castle, and the facade of “it’s a small world” even.

PHOTO REPORT: Magic Kingdom 9/26/16 (45th Anniversary, Stitch Closing, Tomorrowland Rocks, ETC.)

Our latest photo report takes us to the Magic Kingdom to see the latest goings on. The 45th anniversary is looming, with several attractions in the park being refurbished, or in some cases preparing to close for a while. Oh, and there’s refillable popcorn still…

The Magic Kingdom 45th Anniversary Merchandise

img_4318

On Thursday, stores around the Magic Kingdom began carrying 45th Anniversary merchandise ahead of the October 1st celebration coming up this weekend. We have a full guide available to the dozens of new items in a separate post, but there is also a video walkthrough of the entire line available:

Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse Refurbishment Extended

img_4429

Since it is probably the most extensive refurbishment in the history of the attraction, the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse will not be open for its 45th birthday on October 1st. The new date Disney is telling cast members is simply “late October”.

Who Wants Popcorn?

img_4454

A new Halloween popcorn bucket on sale around the resort.

img_4455

The refillable popcorn bucket promotion was indefinitely extended, buckets are now good for $1.50 refills for length of stay. This means that as long as you have a bucket and they continue this promotion, you can get a $1.50 refill of popcorn.

This and That

img_4462

After many months out of stock, the Magic Kingdom ornament is finally back!

img_4464

The repainting of the castle and installation of the holiday lights continues.

img_4465

Some tarps are still up at the Haunted Mansion.

img_4470

I’m happy to report that “it’s a small world” was doing much better this week, with many effects fixed, including the South American sun which has been broken for almost a year.

Color Return to Storybook Circus

img_4475

The Florida sun fades things fast, so it was sad to see the banners in Storybook Circus fading away so quickly. Disney has started to replace the banners again, making the area look fresh and vibrant.

img_4476

This larger banner hasn’t been replaced yet.

img_4477

img_4484

There are still many left to go…

img_4486

Chip and Dale have moved to a new home in Storybook Circus during the day. The space is already set up for meet and greets for the Halloween Party.

iPhone 7 and 7 Plus Cases

img_4487

D-Tech on Demand at the Tomorrowland Light and Power Co. has rolled out cases for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus.

img_4488

img_4489

There was also one new design we spotted on our most recent visit.

Stitch’s Great Escape is going seasonal

img_4495

Announced last week, Stitch’s Great Escape is going seasonal, rumored to be replaced by a Wreck-It Ralph ride once it finally closes in 2017.

img_4497

There was absolutely no one waiting for the show when we went in.

img_4498

The place is kind of falling apart, a staple of seasonal attractions at the end of their lifespan. I recall Horizons at Epcot being mostly broken in my later experiences riding it after it had gone seasonal.

img_4499

img_4500

A few people did show up before showtime.

img_4501

img_4504

img_4507

While I am happy to see Stitch on its way out, I am sad to see the remnants of Alien Encounter do the same.

Tomorrowland Rocks

img_4512

The rock painting at the entrance of Tomorrowland continues. The small rocks on the shoreline have been painted a normal grey rock color.

The island in front of Tomorrowland has been turned to dirt. It should be interesting to see what they do here.

In a story we broke to you last week, Sanaa at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge – Kidani Village began a breakfast service just a few days ago. Sanaa has offered table service lunch and dinner since it opened in 2009, but never any sort of breakfast service. Kidani Village does not have its own counter service location, as guests staying there would have to find a way over to The Mara at Jambo House if they were looking for such fare.

Banana Bread with Chocolate Hazelnut Spread – $3.79

For $3.79, this is a great deal. It includes four pieces of banana bread (which is baked to perfection) and a house made hazelnut spread. The flavors compliment each other nicely and this is a great morning snack option for guests.

The Boere Breakfast includes two eggs any style, tomato chutney, Tanzanian hash browns, Boerewors sausage and bacon. Disney counter service eggs are all the same, but I was a really big fan of everything else on this plate. The Tanzanian hash browns were near perfection when paired with the tomato chutney. The sausage was a little dry, but overall, everything was really good.

The Fruit Sosatie is generally not something I would order, but for the sake of “blogability”, we went for it here. I will say I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed this. The Quinoa and dried fruit salad was a highlight, but all of the fruit was fresh and enjoyable as well. If you are looking for a vegetarian option, or just something light before you meander around a theme park for hours, this is a great choice.

OVERALL

Sanaa breakfast was a delight, and I would expect nothing less based on my experiences here for lunch and dinner. Breakfast service was a little slow, but as to be expected during the first week of a new offering. The most pleasant part was sitting at a savannah window while enjoying breakfast, something you can’t do elsewhere at the resort surprisingly.

Sanaa Breakfast

Sanaa Breakfast

Sanaa offers up one of the better, if not the best resort breakfasts around Walt Disney World. The value also felt pretty solid, and they even accepted the Tables in Wonderland discount which was unexpected. If you are looking for a good breakfast in a quiet and serene environment at Walt Disney World, those are few and far between, but Sanaa is currently excelling at it.

UPDATE: Latest on World Drive Car Accident

Cleanup crews remove fallen signage

Update 6:35pm – Cleanup crews are beginning to move the fallen signage (photo from Brandon Langley)

Update 9:44pm – South bound Lane is open on World Drive. The sign has been moved to the side of the road.

Update 7:27pm – Monorails are also shut down at the moment and they are busing people to Epcot from the TTC.

We have an update on the current conditions on World Drive following a car accident earlier today which downed a large road sign.

According to News13.com, it appears one person was injured and taken to Celebration Hospital with with non-life-threatening injuries.

All southbound traffic on World Drive is being directed onto the Epcot off ramp. Traffic going north it’s down to 2 lanes to give emergency responders some space to deal with the scene.

Disney is also using busses to block a clear view of the incident.

Here are some updated photos from the scene:
