Mystery Topper

Our friends IndyandMarion sent us over a mysterious picture the other day…

It is a Vinylmation Mystery Chaser antenna topper. They found this one at Disneyland but we have since seen them pop up at Walt Disney World as well. It seems to take the form of a junior figure with the arms tucked by the side. They retail for $5.95, but there is a 2 for $10 sale going on right now.

Vinylmation Cyber Monday Sale

It’s time for the “Why the heck do I buy Vinylmation when they are released even with my Annual Passholder discount” sale. Today is Cyber Monday, so of course the Disney Store has a ton of stuff on sale. And of course, that includes Vinylmation. Here are just some of the deals, there are plenty more to look at. All Popcorns are just $5! So are Mascots and Mechanical Kingdom, including the online only Ludwig Von Drake.

Fantasyland Grand Opening Details and Trading Event

I will start with the news that most directly impacts Vinylmation collectors. Disney has announced a merchandise (mostly pins, no vinyls) event to be held on December 6th to commemorate the Grand Opening of The New Fantasyland. The event will be held at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Room J at the Convention Center from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. At the event, various pins, a coin and a shoulder bag will be on sale. They will also be offering space for guests to trade pins (or Vinylmation if desired) during that time. It is important to note two things: For pin collectors, there will by NO pins released at the Magic Kingdom on December 6th. They make a point of letting us know that. And for everybody, the resort will not allow guests to line up before 4pm on December 6th.

The pins that will be released include the Annual Passholder pins that were expected at the Fantasyland previews, but delayed. We also have info on the DVC exclusive pin that was previewed at the trade nights. Now, lets take a look at the merchandise:

Here is the AP merchandise that includes an LE 600 shoulder bag and LE 1000 coin:

We also found out where this DVC exclusive pin went:

According to Steven Miller on the Disney Parks Blog: “It will be released at the Merry Member Mixers for Disney Vacation Club Members. The first once was held (November 27) at Epcot and the pin was released there. It will continue to be sold at the Mixer events until gone. We won’t have it at the Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort release party.”

As for the other pins, including the Pluto’s Christmas Tree Piece of Disney Movies pin, Steven Miller is checking to see if those will also be at the Coronado Springs event. Now lets take a look at the merchandise that will be made available only at the Magic Kingdom on December 6th. This merchandise will not be at Coronado Springs, but select pieces will be available online.

For men, shirts will be offered in sizes ranging from small to 3-extra large, while ladies’ shirts will have sizes ranging from extra-small to 2-extra large. For youth, the shirts will be offered in extra small to extra large.

This is one of those covers for an ear hat instead of a full hat. It is LE 1000.

Finally, iPhone 5 cases! The Fantasyland versions are LE 300 each. The Princess ones are limited release.

I LOVE these prints. They are LE 500 a piece. No price given.

On December 6, you can find commemorative merchandise in the following Magic Kingdom Park locations:
Emporium – Main Street, U.S.A. – Will have tees, Cover Your Ears and D-Tech On Demand cases.
Main Street Cinema – Main Street, U.S.A. – Will have deluxe prints only.

Mickey’s Star Traders – Tomorrowland – Will have tees only.

Mickey’s Circus Photoshoot

We finally got around to taking the Mickey’s Circus Vinylmation figures to Storybook Circus over at the Magic Kingdom. It’s a wonderfully themed place. Make sure you take the time to stop and look around. Take note of the numbers on the Circus train cars. Tell us what you think of the photos below. New December/January Release Dates

With the announcements below we confirm there will be WDW Marathon figures this year as well as another Valentine’s Day commemorative. We have yet to see the actual figures, but the marathons are called “mini medals.” So here is a look at the 2013 medals:

The Valentine’s one is anyone’s guess. We also get details about the 2013 series, a Pixar LE combo and the third Fantasia. We have no clue what order the 2013’s will be released in, but Disney released the calendar from which the figures were inspired in park stores. So i’ll find it and take a look this week. I would assume the order of release would correspond to the months they appear on the calendar. Here is a look at the 13 figures as they were on display at Mickey’s Circus.

We will have to wait until January for the 9/3 Crush and Squirt LE combo. It will have an edition size of 1250 and will retail for $64.95.

The third Fantasia combo is a Parks and Online release featuring Hop Lo & Gold Fish. There are 1500 of them and it will retail for $24.95.

Also in the mix is the seventh junior series installment and a new Disney Vacation Club Piece. The junior series is themed to space and was on display at Mickey’s Circus.

We don’t know for sure, but we can assume the DVC figure will be this design that we saw only in concept art on Vinylnation years ago.

Spotlight On: Custom Vinylmation Artist Mike Vetrone

Destination Vinylmation: Great job Mike! Why did you choose Wishes for the subject of your latest custom?
Mike Vetrone: I have done a couple other “night time spectacular” customs in the past (World of Color and Illuminations). A customer approached me and asked me to do one for wishes. I loved this fireworks show when I went to see it too.

DV: Tink looks great! Do you enjoy paining characters or scenery more and why?
MV: Thank you! That’s a tough question. Characters are a ton of fun to paint, but my favorite thing to do is painting them into a scene.

DV: Any characters you enjoy paining more than others?
MV: Tink was a challenge for me. I don’t really know why. I would have to say villains are my favorite to paint.

DV: Was there any challenge in finding the perfect way to paint the fireworks?
MV: The fireworks were a  ton of fun to paint. I have tried several ways now to paint  fireworks and I feel this has been the most effective way.
