PHOTOS: Latest Look at Construction as Star Wars Land Takes Shape at Disneyland Park

On Friday, we gave you a bird’s eye view of the Star Wars land construction at Walt Disney World, so today we bring you to Anaheim, California to see the latest progress on the site of Star Wars land at Disneyland Park:

The long-standing Skyway chalet in Fantasyland was leveled in the last week, which likely means that all demolition in preparation for the project is now complete, and vertical construction can begin sooner rather than later.

Other than a few mounds of dirt, the land has been flattened and cleared in preparation.

We look forward to watching Star Wars land rise on this site over the next few years!

VIDEO: “Soarin’ Around the World” at California Adventure Offers a Unique Ride Ending

Soarin’ Around the World at Epcot provides a thrilling finale high above Spaceship Earth, but did you know the experience is different if you were to ride elsewhere? If you were to take flight from Disney California Adventure, the attraction concludes with a nighttime flight over Disneyland Park:

We of course also have video of the Walt Disney World version of the attraction, complete with the awesome Spaceship Earth finale:

UPDATE: Disneyland May Not Present Nightly Fireworks for Lengthy Period Due to Star Wars Land

A few weeks ago we told you about the apparent end of the Disneyland Forever fireworks at the conclusion of the 60th anniversary Diamond Celebration. Well, since we ran that story, a few inside sources have provided some further insight into the situation that may point towards some different reasoning as to why fireworks are going away at Disneyland.

7_13_DL_00531

If the rumblings are to be believed, Disneyland will likely be without fireworks for an extended period, likely 6 months or more (roughly from September until the Spring of 2017). This interruption in shows will take place to accommodate the Star Wars themed land construction, as well as the work to build a new fireworks launch site that would not affect the new area of the park every evening, forcing Star Wars land to close early as Toontown does currently.

If true, Disneyland would not be able to present any of their seasonal fireworks shows either. It is however possible that a show consisting of projections and low-level fireworks could run temporarily during these periods.

Disney has still not commented on the end of the Disneyland Forever fireworks show, nor made any statement on the cancellation of any further shows, so treat this as a rumor until any park calendars are updated or an announcement is made by the Disneyland Resort.

Should the fireworks cease, it would leave Disneyland Park with only the Paint the Night Parade for nighttime entertainment since “Fantasmic!” has already been shuttered for the ongoing construction on the Rivers of America.

We will keep you updated as more information becomes available on this story.

VIDEO: Preview More Destinations for Soarin’ Around the World, Including the Matterhorn

In this video, Walt Disney Imagineering portfolio creative executive Tom Fitzgerald tells us more about the development of this new experience, including the attraction’s incredible international itinerary. You might even notice we’re visiting a couple of landmarks which provided inspiration for some beloved Disneyland Resort attractions.

Flights on Soarin’ Around the World depart beginning June 17 from both Disney California Adventure park at the Disneyland Resort, and Epcot at Walt Disney World Resort, one day after Soaring Over the Horizon debuts at the grand opening of Shanghai Disneyland on June 16. Don’t miss your last chance to experience the original Soarin’, now through June 15 at DCA and through June 16th at Epcot.

VIDEO: Disney Testing New Interactive Droid Characters in Preparation for Star Wars Land

Even though we are at least 2 years away from the Star Wars themed lands at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland Park, that doesn’t mean we will have to wait that long to see what Disney has in store for us in what they promise will be the most immersive theme park experience offered to date. Since all matter of droids will be roaming through the streets and markets of the remote outpost planet, we know Disney Imagineers will have to create impressive new interactive characters to fill those roles. Well, it seems the very first one is already roaming around Star Wars Launch Bay at Disneyland, perhaps as an early test of what’s to come…

Droid

The following video was taken by DAPs Magic and shared on YouTube:

The droid is known as Jake, and if you watch the video closely, you’ll notice he can interact with the environment inside of Launch Bay, turning on and off nearby items around him. Pretty impressive, huh?

If this is just a small sample of what is on the way in the Star Wars themed lands, I think we are in for something pretty special with this project…

Again, credit goes to DAPs Magic for the awesome find.
