“For a limited time only, you and your family can experience this musical variety extravaganza inspired by the renowned Frontierland show enjoyed by Walt Disney himself! Join Miss Lily and her Saloon Girls for an homage to the classic Golden Horseshoe Revue, a fun-filled show filled with plenty of family-friendly comedy, singing and dancing. Performances are Thursday through Monday, from January 10 through February 4, 2013.” – Disneyland Media.
It was earlier announced that Golden Horseshoe Revue would be returning for a “limited time” and it is exciting to have the dates announced!
Conner went to the Disneyland resort and captured some crowded magic.
A friendly reminder if you are attending New Years Eve at the Disneyland Resort, be prepared for crowds. Also, special viewing area is available for those who have glow with the show ears.
I generally believe I’m a lucky guy. I have two wonderful children, loving parents, an amazing girlfriend, and I work at the happiest place on Earth. While the New Year arrives with a number that some may consider unlucky, I believe that 2013 will be a lucky and magical year. Believing in magic is the theme that Disney Theme Park Merchandise selected for the 2013 dated art programs. The foundation for this new program is the style guide that Disney Design Group completed in November 2011. I recently took a closer look at the style guide to see what artwork is coming to merchandise in the New Year.
The 2013 style guide contains a variety of logos, graphics and patterns that give one consistent look for the merchandise. Artists and merchandisers can use elements from the style guide on all sorts of items fromdrinkware to plush to coffee mugs. Sorcerer Mickey and his hat are both prominently featured in the 2013 artwork. I particularly like how his silhouette was incorporated in the logos for Disneyland and Walt Disney WorldResorts (something I’ve not seen before). I also liked the creative use of “13” in the word “believe.”
At many merchandise locations in Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts, you will see visually impressive statements containing all kinds of 2013 merchandise. These statements make shopping easier for guests, as dated merchandise is some of the most popular souvenirs from Disney Parks.
Disney Design Group created alternate art program for 2013 that you may recall seeing in a recent Disney Parks Blogvideo. Stay tuned as I will be giving a closer look at the amazing oversized posters from the 2013 calendar that will also make their way to pins, Vinylmation, iPhone covers and apparel next year.
I stopped in at Disneyland a few days ago for lunch and on my way out I grabbed some pictures of construction progress on Fantasy Faire on Main Street.
The huge refurb that has been rumored for Big Thunder for months now has just been announced. From Erin Glover on the Disney Parks Blog:
In the normal course of a Disney Parks attraction’s lifespan, there are periods of time when it is necessary to close for a major refurbishment. You may recall that this was the case last year with the Matterhorn Bobsleds, which now looks better than ever with its fresh snowfall. Up next at Disneyland park, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will close January 7 for refurbishment, reopening in fall 2013.
Updates being made to the attraction will include:
New ride vehicles (but don’t worry – they’ll still look like the trains that you know and love!)
Track replacement (but the attraction will still follow its current course)
Repainting portions of the mountain itself (Walt Disney Imagineering has once again carefully studied Bryce Canyon for inspiration)
We’ll have more updates on these and other aspects of the refurbishment throughout the year, but if you’d like to experience the “wildest ride in the wilderness” one more time before it begins, head on over to Disneyland park by January 6 – its last day of operation until fall 2013.

With the end of 2012 just around the corner, many will take the time to look back and reflect on the past year. But what if we looked a bit further? Let’s rewind the clock to December 2011 and see what we were up to one year ago this month.
‘Twas the Night Before Christmas at Walt Disney World Resort
Of course, we were busy celebrating the holiday season last December – which brought the debut of this popular video, in which Mickey Mouse is joined by familiar faces from across the Walt Disney World Resort to recite “’Twas the Night Before Christmas.”
For the first time, the Disneyland Resort is awarding ten (10) $7,500 scholarships to high school seniors in Orange County. The Disneyland Resort Scholarship Program underscores the Resort’s dedication to volunteerism and community support, while furthering opportunities for students to attend college or a professional trade school. Scholarships are awarded to students who demonstrate excellence in volunteerism, academics, and overall leadership.
Qualified applicants, who apply through Jan. 31, will receive two Disneyland Resort Park Hopper Tickets. If you know a qualified high school senior in Orange County, direct him or her to the Disneyland Resort Public Affairs website to apply.
To our surprise, a new exhibit called Realms of Fantasy opened up today in The Disney Gallery on Main Street and I have a photo report of all the new art inside.
The new exhibit features art from Fantasylands around the globe
I like how this sign looks like an attraction warning sign from Fantasyland
Lots of people visit Disneyland and Disney California Adventure parks in the spring or summer, and they never see Disneyland Resort all decked out for the holidays. A new kind of magic happens this time of year that can take your breath away! Take it from our Disneyland rep on the Disney Moms Panel, Ari Krell: the parks feel like a different place during this special season.
Ari has been playing at Disneyland Resort since childhood, but this year was the first time he brought his family to visit for the holidays. He has a few tips to share if you’re visiting in the next few weeks.
Keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog for more updates on the holiday season at Disney Parks, and join the conversation on Twitter by using the hashtag #DisneyHolidays.
