· During the holiday season, “Tinsel Town” takes on a new meaning at the theme park celebrating the magic of movies and television. A giant Christmas tree towers over the main entrance, holiday displays capture the imagination, shops along Hollywood Boulevard welcome holiday shoppers and colorful garlands and lights sparkle throughout the park.

Disney’s adventure park presents holiday themes in a whole new “dark.” Decorations park-wide frame new daytime-into-night experiences, including Tree of Life transformations, Kilimanjaro Safaris, Kali Rivers Rapids and Expedition Everest.

· Mickey and Minnie don their holiday best to meet and greet guests at Adventurers Outpost. Their friends Santa Goofy, Baloo, King Louie, Donald and Chip and Dale also show off their holiday finest.

Disney Springs

With a multi-year makeover nearly complete, every corner of Disney Springs is wrapped and ready for its first full season of holiday cheer. Disney Springs becomes “the place to be” as each of its four neighborhoods is transformed through festive décor, entertainment and holiday shopping at exciting new retail locations, from name-brand to cozy boutiques to everything in between.

A sampling of what’s new:

· Disney Springs’ Christmas Tree Trail: To capture the spirit of the holidays, Marketplace guests can stroll among 15 custom decorated holiday trees, each dedicated to a popular Disney theme.

· At the Once Upon a Toy Fountain (Marketplace), toys have magically come alive for an interactive holiday dance party nightly on the plaza. There’s pin trading, a nightly tree lighting ceremony and more.

Marketplace will be a holiday shopper’s delight. Seasonal offerings will fill shelves at Disney’s Days of Christmas, Art of Disney, Wonderful World of Memories, Marketplace Fun Finds and Marketplace Co-Op. Goofy’s Candy Co. is the place for yummy holiday treats. At Art of Disney, guests can find sketch artists doing holiday artwork. Meantime, some of the most recognizable names in retailing have opened their doors at Town Center, alongside venues unique to central Florida.

At Every Corner of Our World: Holiday Displays

Disney bakers and magic-makers transform Disney resort hotels and theme parks for the holidays. Just a few of the festive sights to greet guests:

· Tusker House Restaurant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will feature an African Marketplace – made of gingerbread.

· Guests of Disney’s Contemporary Resort (Grand Canyon Concourse) will marvel at a world of majestic mountains and fjords anchored by a 17-foot-tall Gingerbread Holiday Ice Castle, inspired by Frozen and adorned with sugar snowflakes, gingerbread shingles and chocolate-coated trees.

· An annual treat, a life-sized holiday gingerbread house, is an eye-filling (and aroma-savoring) sight in the lobby of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. The Bake Shop uses a classic gingerbread recipe from Austria for its cookies and ornaments.

· A life-sized, edible spinning carousel is a holiday tradition at Disney’s Beach Club Resort while a holiday village with miniature train holds forth at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.

No holiday is complete without a special dining experience. Holiday menus that celebrate the season may be found at restaurants throughout Walt Disney World Resort. For holiday dining information and reservations, call 407 WDW-DINE.

RUMOR: Coronado Springs Resort Convention Center to Expand as Disney Plans to Close Contemporary Resort Center

Reedy Creek has filed permits that could be related to an expansion of the convention center at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort.

The convention center at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort is likely to expand

The convention center at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort is likely to expand

The application says there will be a new stormwater management pond and expansion of another pond to accommodate future additions within Coronado Springs. Disney is not giving further details at this time.

While some have speculated that this addition would instead be a Disney Vacation Club wing, we are still hearing that the Moderate Resort DVC wing coming soon is for Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. The reasoning behind expanding the already massive convention space at Coronado Springs would be to take the pressure off of the Disney’s Contemporary Resort facility which Disney is planning to eventually shutter. The ongoing Convention Center expansion at Disney’s Yacht and Beach club Resorts is also a part of this effort.

The Walt Disney World website notes that Coronado will be undergoing “a refurbishment” beginning Fall 2016.

PHOTOS, VIDEO: Discovery Island Trail and Kangaroos Return to Disney’s Animal Kingdom

On Friday, a few old friends came back to Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park.

img_5037

The Discovery Island Trail located behind the Tree of Life reopened, allowing guests to walk under the Tree for the first time in almost 2 years. The trails around the center of the Island are still closed, but it is nice to have this small area back in the park. Personally, this has always been a space I have used to escape the crowds in the park.

There is some wildlife to see along the path, including some porcupines and a large tortoise.

We also have a short video walkthrough of the trail for you to enjoy:

Kangaroos have also been gone from the park for two years now, but they returned on Friday to a habitat located just behind the Flamingo area towards the front of the Tree of Life.

The zoom on my video camera is better for viewing the kangaroos (who are rather far away), so check them out in the video below:

It’s nice too ee these offerings return as work on the expansion of the park begins to wrap up, hopefully fully completed by the Summer of 2017.

PHOTO REPORT: Disneyland Resort 10/17/16 (Tower of Terror Covered, Star Wars Land, New Fantasmic, ETC.)

Disneyland Reporter Conner Purzycki return us to the Disneyland Resort this week to see all of the latest happenings. The Tower of Terror is quickly vanishing, Star Wars land is quickly appearing, and 2 new sneak preview attractions are being offered. Let’s take a look:

Star Wars Land Construction

With the warped Tower of Terror off in the distance, work continues on the Star Wars themed land for Disneyland Park.

While it may appear that the Disneyland version is ahead of Hollywood Studios, all of the additional work required to transition out of the other lands in the park and to separate the new land from the Rivers of America is all far more intricate than any transition will be at Walt Disney World. Guests will not to to enter through tunnels in Florida.

The massive “Battle with the First Order” attraction is being excavated. It reportedly will be the largest single attraction Disney has ever built.

dsc_0016

dsc_0017

The new waterfront for Rivers of America and new staging area for the updated Fantasmic! will need to be ready by next summer, so they are much further along than anything else in the project.

Downtown Disney Anaheim

dsc_0026

Well it looks like Sprinkles isn’t going over here, between Starbucks and Disney Vacation Club.

dsc_0028

A number of Food Trucks are currently available to guests at Downtown Disney.

dsc_0024

dsc_0025

dsc_0029

If you were betting the Something Silver location would be home to Sprinkles, it seems unlikely that space could be converted by November.

dsc_0030

dsc_0031

It seems highly likely that this space between the other Starbucks and Jamba Juice is where Sprinkles will end up.

dsc_0033

The facade work on the World of Disney store continues while the store is open.

Welcome to Disneyland

dsc_0034

The canon moved to its new home recently, now just behind a fence in the planter. It’s nice to see Disneyland trying to fix the Main Street crowding issues where they can without removing history.

dsc_0035

Christmas lights are already reinstalled on the hub trees.

This and That

While Disney is trying to hide them from us, we can clearly see projectors for new projection mapping effects in Fantasmic!

Doctor Strange and Fixing the Backlot

dsc_0057

The Doctor Strange sneak peek has moved in at the Sunset Showcase.

dsc_0058

dsc_0059

The backlot stage is finally coming down after 6 years, hopefully the Sorcerer Mickey fountain will be returning.

The lighting rigs in front of the former Hollywood and Dine are already gone.

dsc_0063

The Tower of Terror Breaks Out

dsc_0064

Tarps have now expanded to the front of the Tower of Terror facade. It’s hard to believe it is open, but Disney would hate to lose Tower of Terror for the busy holiday season. If all goes according to plan, they would like to have Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout open by late-May.

dsc_0066

dsc_0067

dsc_0069

dsc_0070

dsc_0071

dsc_0072

Interestingly enough, Disney is not using FastPass for the attraction currently. This combined with the demand of guests to see it one last time is making for some crazy wait times.

dsc_0073

I would be lying if I said the Tower of Terror at DCA has had an 85 minute wait on a regular basis at any point in its existence. For all the people who knock the advent of FastPass, this is why it exists. It deters people from getting in line all at once by giving them another option.

Moana Sneak Peek

The Moana sneak peek has moved in at the “it’s tough to be a bug” theater.
