Memorial Day 2011

Today we remember the men and women who gave their lives for the freedoms we enjoy in this country. We are thankful for the freedom to spend time on something so insignificant in this world as Vinylmation. Now for me, in a larger sense, Vinylmation is myself taking a piece of Disney home with me. Bottling up some of that magic and putting it on my shelf. And for all of us, the Disney Theme Parks are places where, if only for a few hours, we can transport ourselves into a different world. One with no worries, no war, pure magic around every corner and where fairytales do come true. Disney is a needed source of entertainment for our busy lives. But we must never forgot why we have places like this to enjoy. Weather you are reading this article on Memorial Day or any other day, before you move on to read other things, please take a moment to remember and say thank you to our servicemen and women who died for our country. God bless them, those serving today, thier families and God Bless the United States of America.

Combo Contest #2 Results

Almost 100 entries… 282 arms… 152 heads… 17 Hats… 9 pairs of glasses… 8 Lincolns… 7 Buzz… 2 Claws… Lots of creativity. We had so many entries, we had to find a way to acknowlage as many as we could. So we created a some categories: Best Combo Figure, Best Group, Best Word Play, Best Story, and Best Complete Picture. But only one of those winners was named best of show and will receive a Kidada 9″ Vinylmation. The other category winners will also be rewarded with a Vinylmation. The Destination Disney Radio Show: May 27, 2011

The opening of the new Cheetah Hunt coaster at Busch Gardens got us thinking… which park is better, Disney’s Animal Kingdom or Tampa’s animal themed park? We go over the pros, cons, rides and shows and try to help you find the right park for your family. We of course discuss the latest Disney news and talk about the unfortunate events that led to Disney dropping the Navy Seal Team 6 trademark. Thank you for joining us!

Cruising to Alaska… Disney Style

The Disney Cruise Line has another Vinylmation in it’s family. This one is celebrating the inaugural trip to Alaska for the Disney Wonder. It is designed by Maria Clapsis and is LE 2500. Thanks to Brad for these great pictures.

As you can see, it comes packaged in a commemorative box.
The figure looks like a totem pole. It has Mickey on top and Pluto in the body. The colors are spectacular and it has that wood grain look to it.
On the back, those great colors continue. In the head, you can see the Disney Cruise Lines logo. In the body, the figure reads “Inaugural Alaska Sailings 2011” and Disney Cruise Line. I like the detail in the ankle area and the markings on the arms.
As you saw, it comes in a box, so you get the cardboard stand to display the figure on. The box has the DCL logo. I still don’t understand the placement for the price tag you see in the back if the designer wants you use this as a display… peel it off and the residue is still there.

What do you think of this new DCL piece? Are you going on a DCL cruise? Looking forward to picking up some Vinylmation on your trip? Let us know what the buying and trading experience is like aboard the Dream, Magic and Wonder.

Large Mammals Appear Online

Today @vinylchaser informed us that Willie the Whale and the Hyacinth Hippo were online. Watch out though, these dangerous beasts are hard to find. You can't just look at Vinylmation, ya gotta search for "Hippo" or "Animation" to find them. $39.99 each.

LE Black and White Vinylmation Found

Update: 5/20/11 Lots of new info found at the trade show. Check out the “First look at the B&W Set” post.

Over at VinylmationKingdom.com they uncovered a place holder on the Disney Store of an upcoming “Black & White” 6 piece Vinylmation set designed by Sarah Matthews. This will be a LE of 2000. It will be nicely packaged in a deluxe presentation box tied with a ribbon fastener. We will let you know when we get pictures and more details.

Cars 2 Vinylmation on the road

Update: 5/13/11 It looks like we were wrong. It’s only a two pack (like Wall-E and the Disney Afternoons). Lightning and Matar. Still cool though, and now we worry that it might be a limited edition like the other two-packs. The figures look great though! (Pic thanks to @CFOnDemand)

Disney confirmed there will be a set of Cars 2 vinylmation coming, really soon. They will be on display this weekend as part of the Pixar festivities and we will bring you pictures as soon as we can.

We assume it will be a blind box series of 12 like the Toy Story 3 series. No word on official release date or artist.

“I’M SO EXCITED! I would really like to see a set for each Pixar movie. Wish I had these for pictures at EPCOT this weekend.” – Nick

Would you like another Pixar movie based series? Any ideas for variants?

Maleficent appeared briefly online

This morning the 9″ Villains 1 Maleficent showed up at the DisneyStore.com. It quickly sold out. I still think it’s odd that Maleficent continues to pop up once in a while, even though they cancelled all those “3 pack” orders back when they were originally released.
